life plus 11 years is the sentence a jury recommended for a man quigted convicted of the murder of grace mann. steven briel was found guilty. both were students at the university of mary washington. defense attorneys tried to convince the jury that briel was insane when he strangled mann at their off campus home. prosecutors played a jailhouse phone call where briel is laughing and sounding normal. >> they are saying that he suffers from schizophrenia and that of course he's having a perfectly normal phone call with his family. it did it affect the man quite a bit. >> after the conviction, th man parent s delivered statements. briel will be sentenced in july. right now a state of emergency in alberta
