coverage, darcy spencer live outside montgomery police headquarters with new details about the investigation as the community, friends and relatives of the victims try to come to grips with this tragedy. darcy? >> reporter: well, kristin, today we learned the identity of the woman shot and killed in the giant store parking lot. i'm told she was going to the store to make supplies to make her daughter a smoothie. this suspect is doing some talking and shows no remorse. >> i'm sad. it's the evil. people don't find your lives anymore. >> reporter: the sign of a woman gunned down outside the giant in aspen hill in a memorial set up to honor his mother. >> it's a shame. really sorry for the person who got killed here. there was no reason for it. >> reporter: she was 65 years old. she a

dream by working 16 hours a day for the last 25 years, only to lose her life on a trip to the store, just months before retirement. >> i was told this morning, my mother called me crying. my heart just dropped. i just went cold, went numb. >> reporter: the man charged with her murder allegedly began a shooting rampage thursday, shooting and killing his estranged wife, then he shot people at the montgomery mall. it was an attempt to ditch the rental car police were looking for. >> after speaking with the defendant, our detectives believe that the motivation behind the events in montgomery county were most likely carjacking, attempted carjacking. >> reporter: police say they recovered a handgun in his car. they believe it was used in all three
