blamed for two deaths in arizona and is now moving east. severe thunderstorms are threatening parts of the plains, midwest, and south this morning, putting millions of americans in the path of dangerous weather. nbc's sara dahl love has more. >> reporter: twisters rumbled across northeast colorado, sweeping up debris and darkening skies. this massive tornado was one of several spotted in re, colorado. >> it was one of the most pho photogenic tornadoes i've ever seen in 35 years. >> reporter: there were no fatalities, but at least five people were injured. debris strewn for miles, dozens of electrical poles were destroyed, leaving many without power. >> never been through anything like this. >> reporter: outside denver near the si of wiggins, a multivortex tornado lifted motor homes and uprooted trees. >> campers upside down, sideways, floating, a boat shed that's just been crusd.

winter blast in flagstaff. just an hour west, hail and rain were to blame for at least six injuries and two deaths on i-40, which closed for hours. arizona was one of ten states with reports of damaging hail saturday. as the storm pushes east, millions are in the threat zone. more tornadoes and halt possible in the country's midsection through tuesday. families urged to stay alert in the peak of tornado season. sara daloff, nbc news. and the fraying within the republican party reached a new level this weekend after presumptive republican nominee donald trump told nbc's chuck todd he was blind sided by paul ryan's refusal of support. >> your take to paul ryan is, hey, the voters have decided, get on board. >> well, i would say that's true. to be honest, i like paul ryan. i think he's a very good guy. he called me three weeks ago and was so supportive. it was amazing. i never thought a thing like this. i got blind sided. >> you feel blind

weekend as she won guam democratic contests with 60% of the vote ahead of tomorrow's west virginia primary. canadian officials will get a close-up glimpse of the wildfire ravaged city of fort mcmurray today. this comes as officials are warning evacuated residents that images from the scene may be emotionally disturbing. authorities had worried the fire could sped to more than a thousand square miles by this morning, but rain and snow helped quell the expansion. right now it covers more than 620 square miles, an area larger than oklahoma city. officials say controlling the blaze will likely take months. about 88,000 people have been evacuated since the fire ignited on may 1st. firefighters estimate more than 1600 homes and buildings in fort mcmurray alone have been destroyed. new bombshell details regarding the ongoing penn state sex abuse scandal involving jerry sandusky and famed football coach joe paterno. we now know penn state's legal settlements with sandusky's accusers cover

scandals dating back to 1971. that's some 40 years before sandusky's arrest. that's according to ap and espn. said a university spokesman, more than 30 settlements come to more than $90 million. penn state president said there's no way to know if coach paterno knew of the 1970s allegations, putting out a statement that said in part, quote, we cannot find any evidence related to a settlement or otherwise that an early alleged assault was communicated to coach paterno. in court documents released last week, it was alleged that paterno knew of the sex abuse claims regarding san dust i can as early as 1976. sandusky was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison in october of 2012 for abusing 12 boys. paterno died in january of 2012 and was never charged with any crimes.

trial on criminal charges for their handling of the sandusky scandal. well, to north carolina now, where the clock is ticking on that state's controversial bathroom law. that rule, otherwise known as hb-2, requires people use the restroom corresponding to the gender of their birth. well, it's sparked protests throughout the state. last week the justice department classified the law as a civil rights violation and gave the state and its republican governor until end of business today to repeal it. the governor claims the federal government is being, quote, a bully. if north carolina leaves the law intact, it could move hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding. a number of companies and celebrities have come out against the law and have boycotted the state. well, the 61-year-old pilot was air lifted to a hospital sunday after his four-seater crash landed on to the roof of a building near los angeles. the pilot told l.a. county fire officials that the plane los

he said to have moderate injuries, and officials say one other person was on board but was not injured. drivers who witnessed the plane going down called 911, and fortunately, no one was in the building at the time. the faa is investigating. britain's prince harry and first lady michelle obama helped kick off the second annual invik tunnel games in orlando, florida. former president george w. bush also attended the opening ceremony. more than 500 athletes will compete this year, including 113 from the u.s. prince harry is the founder of the games which are held for wounded veterans. this morning on "today," prince harry sits down with jenna bh hag hager, where he discusses the importance of the games. well, storm chasers captured this video as what they refer to as an elephant trunk tornado, forming in southwestern oklahoma. fortunately, no damage or injuries were reported. the area also saw heavy rains and golf ball sized hail. nbc meteorologist steve sosa is

>> good morning, dara. it was a busy weekend of severe weather across the country. what's left over from those storms this morning are across areas of nebraska. if you're waking up in oklahoma this morning with the sound of thunder and seeing flashes of lightning, that thunderstorm activity continues for the next couple of hours. the bull's eye of heavy rain was across central kansas, where we have flash flood warnings this morning in northern kansas. looking at the country for today, we've swept out the misery in the northeast. finally the sunshine back. a gorgeous day for many of you. the midwest is the problem for the next couple days. showers and thunderstorms from dallas all the way up through areas can like st. louis. west coast looks nice. temperatures in the 60s and 70s. looks like a nice pattern for much of the west coast. northern plains, we're going to be seeing a lot of chilly air. that's a look at the weather across the country. here's a look at the weather where you are. we're looking at a beautiful day across the northeast, with temperatures in the
