we are learning new details about that deadly shooting spree that left three people dead over two terrifying days. >> the suspect made his first appearance in court today and the judge ordered eulalio tordil held without bond. darcy spencer was in rockville just outside of district court about what brought the violence to an end. >> reporter: there's a lot of new details came out today in court. we found out one thing for the first time today that he got into a struggle with the victim in the giant shopping center parking lot, claudeine j molina. during that struggle with her inside her suv he lost his glasses. that may have effectively ended this crime spree. eulalio tordil's glasses were found later in molina's suv after he allegedly shot and killed her. he then drove to a shopping center right across the street,

he had coffee and had something to eat. he was arrested there just a few hours later. now police did recover a 40 caliber handgun that he allegedly bought back in 2014 in las vegas. now he was supposed to turn over all of his weapons after a protective order was served against him that his wife had got but apparently he did not turn over all of his weapons. let's hear now from the state's attorney on how losing glasses played a crucial role in this case. >> there was a struggle as was mentioned in open court between the intended victim in that case, during that struggle the defendant lost his glasses. they have been recovered from the victim's car. there was also a second loaded magazine, fully loaded magazine was found. >> reporter: now coming up on "news 4 at 5:00" we found out today that tordil left behind some notes. i'll tell y

those notes that made police so concerned. chris, back to you. police say eulalio tordil's crime spree started in prince george's county. investigators believe his first victim was his estranged wife. tracee wilkins is working on new developments on the case against tordil from prince george's. >> reporter: before those shootings and murders in montgomery county the first two shootings happened here, in the parking lot of high point high school. prince george's county police believe that eulalio tordil is the man who shot and killed his wife gladys here in this parking lot as she was waiting for her two high school daughters to leave high point high school and he's accused of shooting and injuring another person who intercede as the two were arguing. next friday morning he would shoot a number of people in montgomery county killing two. coming up on "news 4 at 5:00" and 6, charging documents here in prince george's county. he's going to hav

good. we saw one break just in time for moms to get outside and eat outdoors. on monday started off with some rain. take a look at the rain we saw earlier. the warm front lifting to the north and taking the rain with it. some showers back to the west. we're not done just yet. for the most part most of the rain is steady rain up to the north and stay that way approximately we'll see more come back in as the front drags back down to the south so we're not done with the rain yet. keep the umbrellas handy. more rain in store for tomorrow and wednesday and other parts of this week too. i'll give the complete forecast and let you know which state has the best chance of rain coming up. to a developing story in montgomery county. police are questioning a 15-year-old student about a stabbing with a pair of scissors at churchill high school. to 17-year-old students were wounded in that attack. police say the suspect got into an argument with the other student but they are expected to be okay. we also got some new information tonight about the

in tysons. a search warrant reveals police seized three plastic bottles and three liquid samples as well as burn debris. they pulled the airbag module and three floor mats out of the hummer. fairfax county police is a my ale abuto intentionally plowed his truck into the diner. when somebody came to his rescue, elite something on fire and then threw it into the back of the vehicle then rammed the dine ear third time. that pinned two people against the building and investigators are hoping the new evidence will tell them what he used to start that fire. he had been a cook at the restaurant and is now facing a number of charges. first at 4:00 the metro train that got stuck near the armory station earlier this morning is finally out of way and service is finally back to normal. the problem caused long delays and yes another rough commute. >> makes it hard

to cut into that lead. meanwhile the presumptive republican nominee is already preparing for the general election. dulles toll road is adding staff members and reaching out to gop leaders. trump is called new jersey governor chris christie loyal and knowledgeable and tapped him to lead his white house transition team. trump also told his supporters in west virginia don't bother going to the polls. "new york" magazine reports trump said they should save their vote for the general election since he's already the presumptive republican nominee. democrats are also voting tomorrow and the statistical analysis website 538 put out a poll that shows board of supervisors with a slight edge over hillary clinton. polls open at 6:30 in the morning and close at 7:30 p.m. it's your chance to weigh in on future of one of our areas busiest ohio state. first at 4 how are you input could change how thousands of us drive every

solemn honors today for capitol hill police officers who lost their lives on duty. the color guard marched through congressional auditorium as part of national police week remembrance. most recent death was sergeant clinton holt who suffered a heart attack two years ago. two officers were killed at the attack at the east entrance in 1988 and an officer was killed in a training exercise in 1984. there will be police week memorial tribute in honor of prince william officers. there are 17 in all. among them officer ashley guindon. first a fire than sudden halt that caused big problems for metro riders. >> why it comes on a big day for

first a small fire broke out, then a train gets stuck. it's been another frustrating day for a lot of you on the blue, orange and silver lines. >> this latest incident happened between the stadium armory and the metro station. adam tuss has been tracking developments all day and joins us now

>> reporter: i'll tell the good news is service is back up and running on the blue, orange and silver lines. let me show you where this whole thing happened. you take a look up on the platform the grayish area the chain link fence is missing. that's where that small track fire happened earlier today and a train got stuck up there for hours. metro still hasn't told us exactly what happened with that train but we were here when the train was finally able to be pulled away under its own power but by that point the damage was done, the entire morning commute had to single track around this area, delays were at least 30 minutes at some points. riders tell us they learned to make alternate plans. what is a day like for a regular metro rider. do you check if there's a delay. >> you are every morning before you leave and before you go home you check the website as well. last couple of weeks have been

made my heart sink. and i think this is a great idea but it was hard to watch. josie's mother thinks what you're seeing in the video is amazing. >> you're seeing a 6-month-old sitting on the step playing which, you know, cab real life situation. she falls in. and she turns over and saves herself and floats for over a minute-and-a-half. i don't see how there could be anything negative about that. >> this technique called infant swimming resource teaches children as young as 6 months to survive. a certified teacher teaches the lessons. ten minute session five days a week for four to six weeks. >> the first thing we establish in our lesson is brett control. before that child ever goes underwater i know that child can safely hold their brett.

breaking news from the live desk. the department of justice has filed its own lawsuit over north carolina's controversial bathroom law. that states the state however filed first. hitting the federal government with its suit this morning in response to an ultimatum last week that said the law violated federal civil rights law could cost north carolina billions in federal funding. the state's lawsuit argues transgender people are not a protected class under the federal law. the governor said congress needs to clarify

country. hyper spring weather we're seeing around here. another rainy wet week for us. this week from a very slow moving weather front we have to deal with. you see the showers coming through the area from west to east. sliding into areas in hagerstown and frederick. a warm front that's way down here making its way up and near us for tomorrow. some shower activity out there right now around areas of anne arundel and annapolis. a few showers around southgate north of bowie making its way east of 97. temperatures, though, on the cool side. mercury creeped just a little bit higher and higher. upper 60s or upper 50s to low 60s. 62 lorton, 60 degrees greenbelt and to college park. 50s in the north like ft. meade, columbia, maryland. but we're going to see at least some milder temperatures coming our way this week. higher than last week.
