investigation. something happened, the suspect perhaps slips up and is a turning point for police and that's what happened here with those glasses. the suspect got into a struggle with the victim, a 65-year-old woman. those glasses fell off and he needed those glasses to drive. >> good afternoon. >> reporter: prosecutors say eulalio tordil lost his glasses during a struggle inside this suv as he was allegedly trying to steal it from claudina molina in the giant store parking lot in aspen hill. he shot and killed the 65-year-old woman in her car according to police. they found the glasses during the search. that may have effectively ended his crime spree. >> i think he did not feel because the glasses had been lost in the struggle he didn't feel he could adequately see to drive. >> reporter: tordil took off in his rental car that he was trying ditch without the glasses and without a fully load magazine found under

car. he didn't go far without those glasses. he and his hyundai were found in the north gate shopping plaza across the street from where he was arrested. >> these are random killings. based on information developed and an attempt to obtain a separate vehicle which to make an escape. >> reporter: tordil was a federal police officer for 26 years. he was suspended after his estranged wife got a protective order against him. police say his wife was his first victim. after that murder outside of high point high school police searched his apartment and found what was described as suicide notes. >> with a note that was seized after the first killing in prince george's county that indicated that the defendant might be suicidal or might attempt to be involved in a shoot out with the police. >> reporter: so where was tordil between the time he allegedly killed his estranged wife on thursday afternoon and when he allegedly showed up shooting at

morning. i'll have more on that coming up on "news 4 at 6:00". >> thank you. a man with an infectious smile, a beloved teacher and a woman who achieved the american dream. they didn't know each other in life but their paths have crossed in tragedy. police say they are the victims of tordil's two day shooting spree. pat lawson muse has our story. >> reporter: gladys tordil was the first be killed. she was picking up her two daughters at high point high last thursday when an argument with her estranged husband escalated. police say tordil shot her several times. comments on a go fund me page set up to help the daughters portray gladys as an excellent teacher who will be remembered for her broad smile. malcolm winfell's smile was contagious. friends called him mike and said the man with a beautiful soul was always lauin

winfell died a hero outside of montgomery mall on friday. he was killed after rushing to help a woman who police say tordil was trying to car jack. winfell was an active member of his church, a husband and a father of two. claudina molina had two children, both adults. she was from bolivia and worked hard to achieve the american dream and did her best to help those around her. her family described her as a selfless and tireless worker who did all she could to provide for her family. she was shot outside of the giant food store in aspen hill. >> that was pat lawson muse reporting and the nbc washington app right now we have a deeper look at the three people tordil is accused of killing. open up the app and search shooting victims. our team coverage continues now with tracee wilkins coming up following up on the case against the suspect in prince george's county. that story is in our second half ho

recovering after they were stabbed during lunch today. this happened at churchill high school in potomac. we're told a 15-year-old attacked two other students with a pair of scissors and some kind of tool that's used for clay. police brought the 15-year-old in for questioning. the injuries are minor. those students were treated at the school and released to their parents. >> metro's new chief safety officer official lie started work today and already on day one he had to face a new problem. a train stuck between stadium armory maen avenue stations just the latest in a series of safety concerns for metro. transportation reporter adam tuss has been tracking all these developments for us. he's live at northeast at the site of today's breakdown. adam? >> reporter: we have some more bad news out here. in just the last couple of minutes metro went back to single tracking in this area because of a problem near benning

charges. >> but the content of his public twitter account could outrage women and teenage girls. >> northern virginia bureau chief julie carey joins us now live from chantilly to explain this story you'll only see on 4. >> reporter: the suspect lives a short distance from here from the green brbriar shopping cent. seems like he spent quite a bit of time here. aiming his cell phone at women and snapping shots of specific body parts. now that might not be a crime. but what investigators found on another one of his social media accounts has him facing charges. this is 37-year-old matthew bishop. on twitter he calls himself nova creeper. we're not using his twitter handle. you won't find his photo on his twitter feed. what investigators did find was dozens of pictures they say he took of unsuspecting women of their back sides and chest area. juveniles are pictured too. bishop writes

the giants grocery store at greenbriar shopping store a favorite stalking ground. women near the giant today troubled by what i showed them. >> you know you're in to go to the store and buy stuff and last thing you want or think somebody will take pictures of you and post it to other people. that's disturbing. >> reporter: there are shots at the play ground, fast food restaurant, teens shopping are captioned mall creeping. bishop even snapped shots at a charity fundraiser. but a loudoun county detective discovered bishop didn't stop there. he was sharing child porn and child erotica images with others. the investigation began after loudoun authorities busted another man for child porn possession then went undercover to take over his twitter account. they discovered bishop was sharing dozens of images of child porn on the kick app. >> they found what he was doing on his account and see the porn graphy that he was doing as well as some very dtu

he was photographing while in public. >> reporter: last month investigators seized electronics and other items from bishop's home. today he turned himself in to face ten counts of possession of child porngraphy. now after bishop turned himself in he posted bond. i went by his home to speak to him but was told he's not around. even before police searched his home bishop took down yet another twitter account. when i join you at 6:00 i'll tell you what he was posting on that. back to you. >> disturbing story. we'll see you at 6:00. the university of maryland now has resources to help stop human trafficking. the school opened its safe center on campus today. it's a place human trafficking sniefrs can survivors can go for support. senator ben cardin says the university of southern maryland a great location for this type of service. >> expertise you have in

this is no myth. news reports of the flower thief date back to 2011 when neighbors then said it had been going on for years. on friday police arrested 68-year-old man after he was spotted by a neighbor stealing flowers from a community garden near georgetown. >> people put a lot of effort into growing the plants out here. this is the second time he had arrested him. his first arrest was in 2014. he was caught with an armful of peonies his favorite target according to police. court records reveal he told police there was no law against stealing flowers and he's a heart surgeon who uses the flowers for aroma therapy. a judge set a trial date and released him. he never returned to court for his hearing. that was two years ago. police didn't catch him again until this weekend. according to court records, he appears to be homeless. >> it is a sad

ler. guys we're talking about breaking news. first off this is not near our area but this is oklahoma city, oklahoma. this is live right now from our station down there in oklahoma city. we have two different angles. we just lost one.

apps as well. the amazing part about this is we're watching these storm chasers get extremely close to this tornado. this tornado right now is just to the south of oklahoma city. look at this, guys. this is just remarkable what we're looking at here. they already have damage from the storm. right now you can see that whole tornado making its way down. you can see that whole base of that thunderstorm rotating around. this one driver here looks like he's trying to get to a different angle. you can see him moving around. road that they were on is now impassable because they've had trees down on those roads. now he's trying to get back towards i-35. this is going to go right over i-35 here south of oklahoma city. we show you this because this is what's been happening towards the midwest and towards portions of the plain states. look at the damage. look at the trees around there. the tornado has already been right over this road and you can see the trees down there. we've not seen any structures that have been hurt thus far but the tornado this s

>> we're hearing about this victim and his brothers managed to get the upper hand on a guy with a gun. this happened in an alley in d.c.'s bloomingdale neighborhood. pat collins has his report close to that scene. pat. >> reporter: wendy, he had a gun and he was looking for money. but he picked the wrong alley. he picked the wrong victim. this is the gun they took from that armed robbery suspect. and these are the cops working the shooting scene. they were all over the place this morning. but by the time they got here you might say most of the heavy work was done. witnesses tell the story this way. they say the victim is a 40-year-old man. renovating this home on d street in bloomingdale. this morning he need ad tool. so he came out of the house and

in the back to get one. that's when the robber pulled his gun. that's when the robber put that gun up to the man's jaw and demanded money. and that's when the robber learned the hard way that his victim was a former special forces soldier with the guatemalan army. the victim makes a combat move. the robber gets off a shot and hits the construction worker in the face. but the worker's two other brothers are on the job too. they see what's happening. one of the brothers wrestles the gun away from the robber. the other robber comes out and wrestles the robber to the ground and both brothers sit on top of the robber until the cops get to the scene. book him dano. this is how one of the witnesses described what happened. he asked not to be identified. >> pretty gutsy move because the guy had a gun and hospital is it

several times. >> what do you make of it? >> it's not something that happens around here any more. >> reporter: police say the victim is in critical but stable condition. they say he's expected to make it. they say he may be eligible for a $10,000 reward for deterring a robbery. now coming up at 6:00 the residents here speak out. i'll see you then opinion wendy, back to you. a former daycare worker in prince william county will be spending the next 21 months in jail for child cruelty. a judge sentenced sarah jordan this past friday. witnesses say jordan used to spray toddlers in the face with water until they cried and encouraged some of the kids to fight with each other. this was in 2013 at the miniland in the glen in the woodbridge area. tomorrow one of the six police officers charged in connection to the death of freddie gray in baltimore will be back in court. officer edward nearo has a

he will likely request a bench trial meaning a judge not a jury would rend ear verdict. he was one of the officers who arrested freddie gray. gray died in police custody last year. his death sparked widespread protests and riots across the city. new developments around that bathroom bill in north carolina. today counter lawsuits filed. first one filed by the state of north carolina. and the second one filed by our federal government. >> the battle is over a measure that requires transgender individuals to use the restroom that matches their birth gender. >> our nation is one nation. especially when it comes to fighting discrimination which i support whole heartedly. i think it's time for the u.s. congress to bring clarity to our national anti-discrimination provisions under title 7 and title 9. >> none of us can stand by when a state enters the business ever

a person pretend to be something or someone that they are not. or invent as problem that does not exist as a pretext for discrimination and harassment. >> pete you have two different teams of lawyers on both sides filing lawsuits and they each have an argument that supports their case. how do they differ? >> reporter: well the basic question is does federal law, does federal civil rights law bar discrimination based on transgender status, and the federal government says yes, it does. that both title 7 and title 9 you heard referred to the general civil rights law the right to education ban sex discrimination and the federal government's claim is if you make distinctions on transgender status that's a distinction based on sex. they say it's discrimination to say to transgender people you can't use the

they can. the state says in response no that's not what the federal law says that the government is overreaching and if that's what the government wants the law to say they should ask congress to say it. these two lawsuits will be consolidated. there will be one trial. the state wants the judge to say it's not violating the law. the justice department wants the law to say it is and to stop enforcement of it. >> a federal court ruled against virginia school board last month for a policy regarding transgender people and ballpoint rooms. could that ruling have any impact on this case? >> reporter: absolutely. the justice department says it should, the justice department says that's law of the fourth circuit in which north carolina is a part. that court has said you have to abide by the department much education's own interpretation of title 9 equality in education law and that letter from the education department that was cited in the ruling says it is

inability to see helped end his crime spree. >> again tordil is accused of killing his estranged wife in prince george's county. gladys tordil's family will have to wait for charges because of the case in montgomery county. >> prince george's county bureau chief tracee wilkins got a look at the charging documents today. she's live at high point high school in beltsville with what prosecutors say could help their case. >> reporter: it's important to remember that this all began as an act of domestic violence here outside of high point high school in prince george's county and he's going to have to face charges and the trial in this county. it could be a year or more before eulalio tordil is tried in prince george's county for the murder of his estranged wife gladys tordil and the shooting of another victim. >> since he was arrested in montgomery county that jurisdiction will begin the prosecution. >> reporter: before shooting four people and killing two of them in montgomery county on friday morning he's

driving to high point high school in beltsville thursday afternoon and killing his estranged wife as she waited to pick her daughters up from school. he's also accused of shooting and injuring an innocent bystander. he being on that school's property was a violation of a stay away order and the out by his wife. >> he was in a rental car as you well know now and easy for him to come up in that parking lot behind her without her noticing him. >> reporter: when he comes to prince george's county he'll face first degree murder charges. >> this is a very strong case. >> reporter: according to charging documents an innocent bystander identified as victim two saw tordil standing outside of his wife's car wrestling with her when he asked is everything okay? tordil answered yes. i'm her husband. victim two then stated that he heard gun shots and began running away when he was shot once in the upper body. he survived that shooting. another witness who said they knew tordil al

arguing with his wife. >> this case harmed the two surviving daughters but it harmed this whole community. >> reporter: in that protective order he was ordered to turn over all of his weapons. so the question is how did he have that gun that he used in this shooting spree? i have talked with the prince george's county sheriff's department and have an explanation for that coming up on "news 4 at 6:00". i'm tracee wilkins. back to you. one of montgomery county's largest employers but now discovery communications in silver spring has announced a big round of buy outs that could lead to layoffs. according to "the washington post" the move is part of the cable giant's plan to cut cost business the end of the september. discovery employs about 7,000 people around the world. about 1500 of them are here

event. it won't happen again until 2019. this turn touched down outside of oklahoma city. we were taking a look at that in our first half hour. still out there. part of a storm that spawned tornadoes over the weekend in colorado. we didn't see southeast tree damage from this tornado but we don't know yet if it's damaged any buildings or homes. however we did see tree damage. we don't cho if homes are destroyed or people are hurt. there are tornado watches and warnings tonight in oklahoma and texas. so a lot of wild weather out there. any way related to what system is hanging over us. >> part of it. they got a lot of warm air, moisture down the south. for us it's just the beginning of that weather system that's stretches through the nation's mid-section. as far as what we're going to get just showers stay round here. we have a lot more on the tornadoes moving through oklahoma all the way down from oklahoma city to ardmore east of areas like

oklahoma. for us just light showers. storm team 4 radar showing showers heading southbound. these are very light, spotty. better chance of rain comes yes once again during the overnight hours and early tomorrow morning. all this making its way straight from west to east into our area along a little weather front that's down to the south. that's the warm front that will start lifting our way tomorrow. but talking about more rain. moving into the area early in the morning and that means the weather will have a moderate impact on our day. not a low impact or high impact. showers mainly again during the first part of the day. morning rush will be wet. you're going to need the umbrella just a small size. 50 to 54 degrees. a rain jacket will be in order for tomorrow. you want to stay warm. temperatures, those a little higher than today. take the rain boots too. this is what it will look like

temperatures in the 50s. during the afternoon hours our best chance of rain up to 11:00 a.m. during the afternoon a little bit of sunshine. our best chance is down south. culpeper, fredericksburg, areas like la plata could break out with more sun. but grades for this week. tuesday, wednesday, thursday, c, d and more c type of weather coming down. thumbs down. if you're wanting to know when you can put away the umbrella i think it will be the weekend when we get more sunshine in here, that temperature on sunday 66 degrees. you can see thursday we get a little bit of a break. your weekend our temperatures in the 70s with a chance of showers again mainly saturday during the afternoon hours but, again, as we take a look at the temperatures at least this week with the wet weather we'll be in the 70s, little higher than yesterday. again we got a lot more coming up on those tornadoes moving through oklahoma on "news 4 at 6:00".

funeral the family is in total disbelief. >> when they could not get a straight answer they contacted nbc 4 responds for help. our consumer reporter joins us with their story. >> reporter: that's right. imagine this. your loved one dies. you make all of the arrangements for a proper burial but the day before the funeral you are told it's cancelled because of an insurance issue. friends and family traveled from all over the country to attend this woman's funeral a beloved teacher of the district for years. now she knew her funeral would be well attended but having to tell everyone there there won't be a funeral. >> i just want her in a final resting place. so she can be at peace. >> reporter: now the problem had to do with her aunt's insurance policy and how the cemetery would get paid even though she was willing to pay out of her pocket for the funeral she says the cemetery still said no. th

>> reporter: that struggle was with a 65-year-old carjacking victim and during that struggle the suspect lost his glasses. now he apparently needs these glasses in order to drive. we also learned today where he went between the time he allegedly killed his wife and the showed up shooting at the montgomery mall. in this wanted poster you see eulalio tordil wearing glasses. but in his mugshot after he was arrested for murder he's not. that's because authorities say he lost his glasses in a violent struggle with his last victim, 65-year-old claudina molina. without his glasses his alleged crime spree came to an end. >> he didn't feel because his glasses had been lost in the struggle he didn't feel he could adequately see to drive. >> reporter: he's accused of shooting and killing his estranged wife thursday
