>> the twisters tore through oklahoma today. and the latest word we're getting is that at least two people have been killed. one of them was an elderly man. his home in wynnewood torn apart. several people were driving home when the sirens started going off, warning people to take cover. several captured footage of funnel clouds. wind speeds have been well over 100 miles per hour, enough to damage or destroy multiple homes. if all that wasn't enough, they're also getting hit with hail the size of tennis balls. when you look at all this, our rain showers don't seem bad at all. >> what happened down there today, a tornado outbreak that they saw in oklahoma, nearly 20 reports of tornados across the plains today. you saw those amazing shots of those tornados down towards oklahoma. watch what happens as they

there is new evidence connecting moms who drink diet soda while pregnant and overweight infants. canadian researchers studied 3,000 women and found children were twice as likely to be overweight bit age of 1 if their moms drank diet sodas while pregnant. it doesn't prove that the diet soda causes childhood obesity. they say more research needs to be done. all week we are offering tips for better sleep. a wakeup call from the i-team. their review of traffic reports shows that rush hour is starting earlier and commuters are running the increased risk of drowsy driving. show us the

have on our local roads. >> reporter: it's a frustrating, mind numbing, fatiguing part of our day, especially for jerry bennett. the day we rode along, bennett's morning commute began with a 5:00 a.m. wakeup call and a cup of coffee. he sets aside two hours every morning in case traffic is bad. >> i don't think i get nor than four or five hours per night. >> reporter: and he has more early morning company than he used to. the traffic data produced by virginia and maryland transportation departments show that drivers are getting an earlier start. we found a 10% spike in traffic volume since 2010. in fredericksburg, up 6%. and an

at montgomery county. the early wakeups are driving our drowsy driving. >> people are not getting enough sleep during the normal workweek. >> reporter: she specializes on the impact of sleep on driving. her team studied more than 100 d.c. drivers over the course of the year. nearly 20% suffered accidents caused in part by drowsiness. >> we have lots of data and examples where people are starting to fall asleep and veer off the lanes. >> reporter: we found out. >> i'm going to stay up for about five hours. >> reporter: getting more than two hours of sleep over two days and absolutely no coffee. we wired up our hotel room with cameras to ensure we followed the rules. going out for walks, watching late-night

deal, right? we've seen rain 13 days in a row. we know how it is to live in a tropical rainforest. temperatures today only in the 50s and 60s most of the day. right now we're at 61. that's up a degree. winds out of the southeast at 3 miles per hour. the clouds moving back in and so are the showers. on the radar, not a lot going on, but we're starting to see moisture back to the west making its way, take a look. here's the cloud cover. notice the showers starting to form back here towards the west. that's what i'm watching, another system that will slide right across this front. and we're going to be dealing with rain. back towards oklahoma and kansas, back towards nebraska. 20 different tornado reports in the plains. the most serious down towards oklahoma. we saw a lot of amazing pictures. i'm sure we'll see more over the next couple days.

we're not talking any severe weather at all. tomorrow is going to be cloudy, and we're starting off with rain. look what happens around 4:00 in the morning. mostly to the north, that's at 4:00. how about 8:00? everybody getting back in on the action, even a couple of heavier rounds of showers, that coming through even around the noon hour, and we're not go being to be done even then. i do think we'll break out in the afternoon into drier conditions, kind of like we did today. but a wet day. rain likely, temperature 54 degrees, 3:00, 4:00 in the afternoon, the bus stop will be the worst part. what to wear? the rain jacket, the umbrella and the rain boots. that's kind of rain we're talking about early tomorrow morning. it will be enough to produce enough of that rain, enough of that ponding on the roadways and sidewalks to make it tough travel. that's why we have moderate impact forecast tomorrow with most of the rain comi i
