and good morning to you. at least two people are dead following severe storms in violent tornadoes in the plains. south central oklahoma was especially hard-hit. this intense video captured a massive tornado tearing through the town of wynnewood in garland county, oklahoma. the twister barged through homes and power lines knocked over and sparks flying in the air. the national weather service described the tornado as large and extremely dangerous and it was responsible for one of the reported deaths. this is all part of a single giant storm system has caused havoc since this weekend and bringing massive hail and tornadoes from kansas to nebraska to colorado and flooding in parts of texas. and now the system is heading east. nbc meteorologist steve sosa is here for what the tornado outlook is for the rest of the day. >> we focus the attention further east for today. i want to draw your attention to the bottom of your screen with the legends here. severe thunderstorm or tornado wa

so we are seeing a temporary break for the moment. we will see more thunderstorms coming up here for this afternoon. and some of those storms will be in a different location. you can see that line of storms moving through tennessee. that will start to move towards kentucky and we will see a reorganization later on this afternoon where we could see the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and a few isolated tornadoes. we will keep an eye on it throughout the day. >> thanks, steve. it is tuesday which means the country is waking up to another presidential contest for the republican and democratic nominations. while hillary clinton and bernie sanders duke it out for west virginia's 37 delegates, donald trump is strolling through a guaranteed win in nebraska today. he then heads to capitol hill to meet influential members of the republican party on thursday. he'll sit down with senate and house leadership, including senate majority leader mitch mcconnell and paul ryan and reince priebus, among others. that meeting comes as speaker ryan offers and olive branch to

loretta lynch. pete williams has details. >> reporter: both sides turned up the heat in the battle over transgender rights, beginning with governor pat mccrory who sued the federal government to defend his state's new law that forbids people to use the bathrooms of their gender identity other than the sex on their birth certificates. >> we believe a court, rather than a federal agency, should tell our state, our nation, and employers across the country what the law requires. >> reporter: his lawsuit says the federal government's effort to stop enforcement of the law is a blatant overreach. civil rights law he says does not outlaw discrimination based on someone's transgender state. the governor said he was acting in part to prevent the federal government from cutting off 4.3 billion dollars in federal funds for the state's public schools and universities. the u.s. attorney general fired back, announcing a federal lawsuit against north carolina, her home state. it wasn't so long ago, she said, that restroom signs

indiana, illinois. we will see some severe storms there and a few severe storms across texas. today's outbreak is not looking like the intensity of yesterday but, again there will be a few tornadoes involved in the forecast. otherwise, talking about heat much of the country. 90s across areas of texas. the northeast still nice. th we will see a few more clouds in new york city with temperatures in the lower 60s. meanwhile, the west coast is very nice with highs in the 60s and 70s. that is a look at the weather across the country. now a look at the weather where you are. we are looking at some showers across the mid-atlantic states with temperatures that will be in the 60s and 70s. meanwhile, sunshine and warmth across the south. highs in the middle to upper 80s. starting to get pretty hot down there. overall, it looks like a great day in the northeast. again, keep are eye on the ohio valley lady this afternoon. >> steve, thanks. breaking news ahead.
