there are very interesting races on this ballot and a lot of people who want to be heard in choosing a presidential candidate. we'll hear from them coming up. and yes, keep that umbrella handy for another couple of days and we'll show you where they had the best chance of rain and when did they finally move out of here? at 4:00, metro's leadership is addressing concerns about your safety as the first-ever meeting of all of metro's managers takes place. it was a landmark day for the transit agency. >> more than 650 of metro's top managers sat down in one place. the meeting was so large they had to hold it at the strathmore music center. he's live at the station. adam, what was your take away? >> reporter: well, as some managers told me today, pat, metro had lost its way. lost its way when it came to a culture of safety and lost its way when it came to customer service and the list

on. this was an incredible showing as manager after manager and train load after train load of managers showed up here at the grove and stratstation. and if there is an unsafe situation on the rails then you need to fully investigate and that's what paul wiedefeld, the general manager of metro was trying to instill in all of his managers. basically that safety has to trump service at metro and the gm also told us there was talk about staff shake-ups. take a listen. are you trying to tell some of them that if they don't get onboard with you that the doors are aren't open? >> the reality is they know where i'm coming from and i laid out very specifically the types of things i'm expecting and if they can manage that, fine, and if not it's probably not a good fit. >> reporter: ultimately, this whole conference was about accountability and taking pride in metro, gu

adam, about the level that he expects, but the thing that stood out to me about this meeting was the managers got to ask the general manager questions, as well. what do they say? for some of these managers they'd never met the general manager before and it was interesting for all of them to get in the same room and one of the questions they asked them is why had there been so many metro general managers and his answer is it's not about the gm at metro. it's about you, the managers that make the truest impact and that's why maybe there has been a turnover with the metro general managers. of course, this guy would like to stick around for a while. >> all right. thank you very much. great contacts. thank you, adam. i'm wendy rieger at the live desk. this good afternoon a grand jury indicted three brothers for an ambush at a police station that led to the death of a prince g

michael ford faces three counts and he is accused of opening fire in march. before that shooting, investigators say his brother malik recorded michael ford's last will and testament on his phone and planned to use it to gain publicity. malik and another brother, elijah then sat in a car and recorded the attack on the police station with their cell phones. officer jacai colson was ultimately killed by friendly fire in the chaos of that situation. prosecutors say they hope this indictment starts to bring some closure. >> officer colson, we are always mindful, came there to help and was killed and so this is damaging, but we are appreciative for the support the community has given us. we will ton move forward with this case and attempt to bring some peace to the family of officer olson as well as to this department and this commun

the south that we're watching around roanoke and some showers and thunderstorm activity there. this will all try to move in later tonight and during the day tomorrow. we've still got a lot of wet weather and cool weather. it's only 5 in hagerstown and 65 in d.c. and we'd love to get into some of this warmer air. we just don't see it coming. we'll talk more about the chance for storms and where we had the most rain in our forecast in just a minute. we are learning of another sad turn involving the victim of alleged gunman tortel. she was killed outside of high point high school while picking up her daughters. they are now in foster care and tortel doesn't have any other family in the united states. as news 4's chris gordon tells us her wish was to be buried back home in the philippines, but the family is facing a huge, financial burden. >> this community's nightmare began at high point high school last thursd

gladys tordel was fatally shot picking up her children here. another man was wounded, as well. mrs. tordel dies leaving no family except for her two young daughters. they're minors. >> today i spoke with the executive director of migrant heritage commission, a group that is organized to help filipino immigrants. >> we told them that we'll be raising funds and mobilize the community and there are quite a number of individuals and organizations pledging or have sent their donations to the commission. >> ahead at 5:00, the help the tordel family needs in its darkest hour. back to you. we're following a developing story in prince william county. two women have been badly hurt in what police are calling a domestic incident. last night officers were called to a home on chast free place in

woodbridge and the disagreement got physical. that's where julie carey picks up the story. >> reporter: a very dramatic scene playing out on that deck last night. the victim had been beaten with a shotgun. she fled to the deck and she was calling out for help to the neighbors who were watching from below. they called 911. meantime, her wife who had the shotgun made several trips in and out of the house. eventually turning the gun on herself. when police arrived, a very challenging situation for them. they didn't have any way to get to the victim on the deck. coming up on news 4 at 5:00, i'll tell you what they did to finally get to the victim and gain access to the house. for years police have been enforcing drunk driving the same way, but now a new concern and it's raising questions about how to enforce marijuana use behind the wheel. stuck in the sky with nowhere to go but down. how reuerssc

>> voters are headed to the polls again today in the next round of primaries. west virginia and nebraska hold elections today although candidates aren't campaigning in either state. hillary clinton is in kentucky, bernie sanders is out on the west coast hitting california and oregon. donald trump is taking a day off from the campaign trail. however, in west virginia there is much more at stake than just the presidential races. news 4's scott mcfarland is there today. >> reporter: here in martinsburg, berkeley county they'reep

a developing story in prince george's county. a 6-year-old girl is suffering from serious injuries after falling from a third-floor apartment window. it happened this morning on bu owe road in laurel. the child was transported to children's hospital and no word on what caused the accident. >> i hope she's okay. >> a new report finds there is a growing danger on the road, but the inability to detect marijuana may be just as big of a problem. nbc's erica edwards reports on the trouble with testing. >> so you smoked 30 minutes ago and you're saying that i'm not going to find any weed in this car?

have an accurate way to test whether a driver is impaired after smoking pot. >> why do i smell it? >> reporter: six states, colorado, ohio, pennsylvania, montana, nevada and washington have set a little threshold for how much marijuana can be detected in the blood before a person is considered too impaired to drive. now aaa says those blood tests are not based on sound science. >> no research study. there's no relationship. there's nothing to support setting a numerical concentration of cannabis and somebody's body that would allow us to predict that they are impaired. >> reporter: marijuana affects people in different ways. experts say some smokers with more evidence of pot in their systems may be less impaired than others who smoked very little. aaa argues some drivers may be wrongfully convicted while others may be going free when they're really unfit to drive. >> the debate isn't if it

what extent. how much do we consume and how is that related to how impaired we are behind the wheel? >> reporter: behavior and dilated pupils are indicators of drug use. aaa suggests police officers could have special training to determine a driver's impairment with blood tests as a backup. erica edwards, nbc news. to say it's been a tough day on the job for these workers in new york city would be an understatement. if you take a look at this, you would see scaffolding dangling 17 stories up. window washers are now safe after being trapped for 40 minutes on the side of this skyscraper. firefighters performed a very daring rescue. the first responders rappelled from the roof and helped the workers through a smashed-out window. storm team 4 brought you the live pictures of tornadoes as they hit. now thousands of people in oklahoma are cleaning up from all of the damage.

counties and storm chasers were out capturing this video. look at the size of that thing. as many as 20 tornadoes touched down in oklahoma yesterday. two people have been killed and survivors are salvaging what they can. here is a bit of good news right there. one woman was able to rescue some cats that were found in the rubble of those fallen homes. >> well, our weather here has not been all that bad today. how much rain are we talking about tonight, doug? >> do think we'll see more rain. the good news is this is what we've seen over the past two weeks. we have not seen a single day where we've seen a complete washout of rain all day long and it's come in little fits and drizzle here and we're see something clearing just like we've seen over the last couple of days and we saw it yesterday and we'll see it today. partly cloudy skies and 65 degrees and winds out of the east at 9 miles per hour and we have seen some in the way of clearing and that helps temperatures to rise to the mid-60s and only 55 in frederick

fort meade and temperatures right now 10 to 15 degrees below average for this time of year. if you're headed to the nats game tonight once again as we take on the tigers it will be a cool night for sure. 60 degrees and clouds around the first pitch and same thing around seventh inning stretch and by the time we're leavings game we'll see showers moving back in so take the umbrella with you. here's what we've seen the last couple of hours and we've seen one batch of rain moving over toward frederick, baltimore and even inside the d.c. metro area and saw a couple of showers around fredericksburg and quick showers around too, and we're seeing those commit behind this and we're watching this frontal boundary right here and this little area and this line of storms and notice the storms down toward roanoke and this whole area may move through the region tonight. no problems and 8:00 and notice we're on the dry side and getting in the game and right around 10

and nothing too heavy and we can't have a rumble of thunder down to the southwest. at 12:30, still dealing with the rain and tomorrow morning it's not just the chance for showers because we'll have a slight chance of showers tomorrow morning and the big deal could see some fog and we could see dense fog tomorrow morning and notice at 10:00, 11:00 a.m. and more showers moving on in here and move on through during the day and not a complete washout, but keep the umbrella handy. once again, you will need it and the bus stop forecast, take the umbrella and scattered showers and expect fog tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon and mostly clouds with a chance for showers coming in later in the day. what about the next couple of days? well, more showers on friday. thursday, right now we're still trying to keep dry. high temperature upper 60s to 70 and 75 on friday and 71 on saturday and saturday most of the day looking dry and the best chance of rain looks like it will be late in the afternoon and we'll continue to watch the seven-day forecast and we'll let you know if we'll get

the question is what might trump demand to make that deal? i'm steve handelsman, news 4, capitol hill. right at the two-week mark here with the stoverca sky and/or rain moving through the area and yes, we have plenty to complain about, but here's something not to complain about and how the rain has helped us out. the tree pollen over the last 24 hours it's down, yes, but still running in the high category for this area. grasses and mold also running moderate right now and just wait a couple of weeks we'll be dealing with the weed pollen. right now showers making their way through our area and most just heading east of annapolis and the northeastern area of maryland and there will be more rain coming in late tonight after 8:00, 9:00 and that's the first headline and plenty of fog for the morning rush and that could slow us down. dense fog, in fact and by the end of the week, rain and possibly a few thunderstorms. that's a look at how thick the fog will be early

doug has more on the impact to area roads in just a few minutes. fairfax county is warning loudoun to warn residents about tire and rim thefts. several instances across the counties in the last few weeks and this afternoon police have a video of a vehicle believed to be involved which is a ford explorer. most of these thefts have involved gmcs and chevies. the bureau was among the first to report on a string of thefts in loudoun county and there have been at least 11 there so far this year. some of these vehicles were in the driveway just a few feet away from where homeowners were in their beds sleeping. will they force a game seven in d.c. or will the season end tonight? a crucial game for the capitals as they get ready for the penguins and jason pugh is with the team in pittsburgh. >> we are four hours

out as this rain moves on out, too. still shower activity back toward the west to come right along 66 and very light rain here. this is the rain that came through earlier toward portions of maryland and right around d.c. and around fredericksburg this afternoon and that's all moving out and i'm watching this area down here and take a look down toward the roanoke region and big thunderstorms around roanoke and this activity will be moving our way. later tonight we will see more rain right on through early tomorrow morning and something else we'll see is areas of fog and some of the fog could be dense in the morning and give yourself extra time for that commuter forecast and 58 degrees in the a.m. and the afternoon, guess what? a chance for some shower activity. veronica has much more on that and the seven-day forecast coming up in five minutes. whether the uconn ufk huskies women's basketball team have a second home and they were back there as they visited the white house and president obama today. for the sixth time during the president's time in office the huskies have

particularly bad. >> i get sleep where i can. i don't think i get more than four or five hours a night and he has more company on the road than he's used to. the i-team obtained reports from the traffic departments and found long distance commuters are getting an earlier start. at 5:00 a.m. on i-95, we found a 10% spike in traffic volume since 2010. in fredericksburg, up 6%. in maryland, too, i-95 in howard county near 103 and an increase on the beltway in montgomery county at 5:00 a.m. sleep experts say the early wake ups are driving our area's increased risk of drowsy driving. >> people aren't getting enough sleep during their normal workweek. >> charlie is a research scientist at the virginia transportation institute specializing on the impact of sleep on driving. her team focused on d.c. drivers over the course of a year and they found 20% suffered

accidents caused in part by drowsiness. >> we have lots of examples where people are starting to fall asleep and they're starting to veer off the lane. just how dramatically is sleepiness impact? the team of scientists in blacksburg, we found out. >> i'm going to stay up about five more hours. >> getting no more than two hours' sleep over two days and no coffee, we wired up our hotel room with cameras to ensure we followed the rules. >> pretty night outside. >> going out for walks and watching late-night tv before changing clothes and heading crosstown for a two-hour midday drive on the university's closed test track. >> it's like a real two-lane highway and we're not going have music and chatting. >> i was immediately showing signs of fatigue and fidgeting and yawning and an inability to stay below the speed limit and then one hour in they tested me with a late-changing red light. i failed.

pollen count. it's been down really for the most part over the last couple of days since we've had this rain and the other thing turning around is the rainfall deficit since march 1st. it was well over two inches and the rainfall eating away at it and we have a surplus for the month of main and not the actual rainfall and it's close to three inches. by the end of the week we could pick up another rainfall, and they're coming through areas of howard county and very, very light and spotty and that's kind of what we'll have around early tomorrow morning, just spotty and light and up until 3:00 a.m. and look at the storms, ohio through areas of kentucky coming right back around and just outside of west virginia. we tracked them in oklahoma and part of the system headed this way could bring us a chance for

at the ford brothers. the ford brothers, 22-year-old michael, 21-year-old malik, 18-year-old elijah indicted in connection with the shooting death of prince george's county police officer jacai colson. in all, a 121-count indictment. all three ford brothers charged with attempted murder and a string of felonies that goes on and on and on. michael, the brother who had the gun and started the shooting charged with second-degree murder. states attorney angela alsobrooks says this incident left a big hurt in prince george's county. she's hoping the court action will help heal it. >> we will continue to move forward with this case and attempt to bring peace to the family of officer colson as well as to this
