hospital but died. no word on any suspects. today a memorial service is beginning for the man who died in a shooting spree in maryland. police say malcolm winfeld tried to stop eubilio tordil at the mall last friday. there will be two memorial services in gaithersburg. the first one is at 2:00 p.m. the funeral service will be tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. and gladys tordil will be remembered tonight at a vigil at parkdale high school at 7:00 p.m. her family wants her returned to the philippines for a proper burial and want the couple's two children to live there. the two children are in foster care right now. new prosecutors have been chosen for the freddie gr

naming the new female prosecutors here. the two officers charged in this case have been ordered to testify under immunity against their fellow officers. now prosecutors will have to prove that they didn't allow any of the officers' testimony to influence the cases they present against them. it is 6:03. today hundreds of grocery workers will rally to keep some local giant stores open. the rally is planned for this morning outside of the workers' union offices in landover. they are fighting the possible closure of eight stores propose in a corporate merger. federal regulators have not approved the merger just yet. metro's general manager is moving full throttle to get the rail system back on track. part of the plan included meeting with the agency's top managers yesterday. gm paul wiedefeld says he's make changes if he has to. the managers said safety is a priority and cannot be compromised. >> the message is we have to be one united team

report this hour. now they are confirming 45 people are dead. dozens of others are hurt. and we still don't know who was behind this horrendous attack. no one has claimed responsibility yet. aaron? angie, thank you. 6:12 right now. and developing this morning, police in massachusetts are trying to figure out why a man went on a deadly stabbing spree. police say 28-year-old arthur derosa stabbed two people at two different scenes and also drove his car through the front entrance of a macy's at a nearby mall in taunton. an 80-year-old woman and 56-year-old man died. we are learning when three men will go to trial. michael, malik and elijah ford are going before a judge after leaving an officer dead. michael ford opened fire in an ambush attack outside the district 3 station and his brothers recorded the shooting

coleson died after a fellow officer mistook him for a suspect in the shoot-out. now to the latest on the death investigation of icon prince. according to a search warrant, a doctor saw prince twice in the month before he died including the day before his death and prescribed him medicine. that information comes as investigators returned to prince's estate yesterday to continue their investigation. soon it could cost you more to eat out in fairfax county. 4% more as the county considers a meal tax. the board of supervisors could decide to let you decide to put the tax proposal on the ballot this november. "the washington post" says the tax would generate $100 million for county services and schools. a developing story this morning, it is a low-tech mosquito trap but it may help you fight mosquitoes and fight the zika virus. according to the centers for disease control and prevention thea

reduce the virus that has similar symptoms to zika. they were test in puerto rico. what is surprising is the trap does not use pesticide or other chemicals. the trap uses water and hay to attract the mosquitoes and then glue to make sure they never leave the trap. and a new test to diagnose the zika virus faster is now using yiurine instead of blood. higher levels of zika can be found in urine and stay there for longer periods of time. the new test can make it easier and faster to test more people for zika. 6:14 now. and this week we are trying to crack the code to getting better sleep. right now we are taking a look at sleep disorders. 30% of people suffer from sleep apn apnea. >> doctors at the university of maryland and baltimore study and treat the disorder in a specialized lab. take a look, you can she

forecast. >> what would you pay for sunshine right now? >> good point. >> it's all relative. outside again, another day socked in with the clouds. there's the view from the city camera looking back over our downtown. it is all cloudy. not much rain out there just yet. a lot of puddles left for late night rain showers. cloudy and temperatures quite a bit cooler than average. showery weather likely here later on this morning before lunchtime. the overall weather impact on your day will be moderate. areas of fog out there early this morning, nothing too thick. showers becoming more and more likely. nothing all that heavy today. most of the rain will be fairly light between about noon and -- or 9:00 to noon. so you won't need the big umbrella. in spite of the fact that today is likely to be the 15th day in a row with rainfall, that is almost 3 inches of rain in the month of may. we still technically have a 1.5 inch rainfall deficit since march 1st. how is that ossible?

streak but with only .01 of rain. outside this morning, rain drops here moving northbound into parts of culpeper county. so we are watching those. they are the leading edge of a larger area of rain in southern parts of west virginia. that is all coming in our direction. here's how our high-resolution computer model handles that first wave of rain coming into the metro between 9:00 and 10:00. then that other batch down in west virginia now, that rolls in here as we get towards the lunchtime hours today. but by about 2:00 to 3:00, and this is the fresh updated forecast from the model here, it's now keeping the rain chances lingering in a little bit longer. but still, i think we'll be able to get a couple dry hours in. if you're headed to the baseball game tonight, it should be generally dry, but i can't rule out a rain delay. as you plan to the your day, cloudy skies. cool and cloudy now, becoming more and more wet finishing out the morning into the lunch hour. but by baseball time tonight, temperatures in the 60s.

thank his love of domino's pizza for saving his life. the man lived in massachusetts and ordered something from domino's almost every single day, as you can imagine, the store's manager and delivery driver know him pretty well. well, they noticed he hasn't ordered in a while so they stopped by his house. when he didn't respond they called 911. rescuers found him on the floor in need of immediate medical attention and took the man to the hospital. he's in fair condition now. even if they had a relationship, the fact they took the extra step, good for them. >> yeah. cut back on the pizza. dial it back a little bit. >> i was thinking that, but yeah. budweiser is getting a temporary name change and it will be a patriotic one. >> yes, starting this summer, this month, the company is renaming its beer. you can see it right there, america. the new beer can and bottles will include passages from "the pledge of allegiance" and "america the

we are following breaking news this morning, prince george's county rush to a neighborhood in district heights to find someone dead. >> this is all happening on halleck street. erika gonzalez is joining us with new information. erika? >> reporter: eun, we are in district heights in prince

less than five minutes ago we learned this is the scene of a targeted attack with multiple victims. prince george's county police on the scene now right behind me is the intersection of aztec drive and gateway boulevard. so if you push a little further in, that is the actual location of the investigation. at this point, it is a homicide investigation. so that is in the 6500 block of halleck avenue, i believe. what we can tell you at this point is that there is, in fact, one person dead. we understand that is the result of a gunshot wound if not multiple gunshot wounds. as for the other victim, police tell us there were multiple victims in a targeted attack. we are not sure what the extent of their injuries are. all we know is they have confirmed to us there is one person dead. that it was some type of a shooting. and there are multiple victims in what they are calling a targeted attack. we are live in district height

back to you. good morning, i'm storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell coming up on 6:31 on your wednesday morning. 4 things to know about the weather. 14 days down and day 15 in a row with rainfall here in the area. and that is underway. just itty-bitty bits of sunshine for today. there are milder temperatures coming our way for friday. that is some good news, but it will probably be sunday before we have a sunny, dry day. for now a little bit of rain in the southern parts of the shenandoah valley. that ripple in the atmosphere is coming our way. grab your umbrella on the way out the door. it is all cloud cover with a few showers south and west. showers becoming more likely late this morning into the early afternoon hours. highs today in the 60s. breaking news now in first alert 4 traffic with the latest is melissa mollet. we have a disabled vehicle at little river

the left side of the roadway are blocked and we have reports of debris in the roadway that could be flattening tires and causing issues. 295 before east capitol, a broke broken down vehicle slowing you from three lanes down to two. 270 at shady grove road northbound and southbound actually looking pretty good right now. as far as travel times, no major problems. we'll take a look at that coming up in a couple minutes. today we will get a better idea of our region's homeless population when an annual count is released today. news4's derrick ward is live outside of d.c. general this morning. d.j. gener d.c. general is set to close, right, derrick? >> reporter: they are set to move the homeless families out of here. this is to keep families with children together, but it's come under fire because of the conditions here. so the mayor is trying to distribute the families

wards and is running into flak over that as well. but later today we'll get a look at the population overall on what she and other leaders are looking at. now this will be a point in time snapshot. it's done by the council of government. they have done it for the last 15 years. and it is defining homeless people as people living on the street or in shelters. and the largest population of that group are in d.c. and there has been a continued decline in chronic homelessness. so overall there has been a decrease. now, here's what it looks like for last year. the largest decrease came in arlington county. they were down by 18%. d.c. saw a 6% decrease in the number of homelessness. and prince george's county saw a 4% decrease. there were some troubling numbers from frederick county and montgomery county. they saw 26% and 23% increases respectively. now when the numbers come out, the city and area leaders are interested in them because they

and this has been a problem plaguing jurisdictions all over the place here as well as other places in the country. but they particularly want to get a grasp on this. and when the studies are done, it generally gives them a baseline and gives them some scope of the problem to help them address it. we'll have the numbers later today. we are live in southeast d.c., derrick ward, news4. thank you. 6:34 right now, and police in montgomery county are ramping up the efforts to find a man who sexually assaulted a girl in silver spring not far from route 29. the girl told police the man followed her from the school bus into the apartment building. then he tried to take her phone and remove her clothes. the girl's brother heard her screaming in the stairwell outside their apartment and he scared the man off. this morning this man is waking up in jail. montgomery county police say demarus nickens and another man

rockville and forced their way inside, they beat up the 77-year-old homeowner. nickens is connected to similar crimes in anne arundel and prince george's county. and now to more on a story on counterfeit checks. someone got ahold of a woman's checking account and started to write fake checks. she turned to nbc4 responds for help. >> reporter: imagine her surprise she gets a copy of her checks back from her bank. the problem is she didn't write any of them and there were hundreds of dollars in fraudulent charges. so jean flippin got her statement along with a number of canceled checks. the checks have her routing number and her checking account number but her name and address removed and replaced with a stranger's information. now someone had made fraudulent check purchases totaling more than 800 dollars. not sure

the race and has been covering it for months. what does this all mean? >> reporter: i have to tell you, this was quite the scene on capitol hill. ted cruz walking in, mobbed by the media for his first day back. he got a warm reception from his staff, but he seemed very cool toward donald trump. he was holding that endorsement of trump and seeming to crack the door open a bit to maybe getting back in this race if things were to change, saying something along the lines of if we were to notice some sort of change with a path to viability, the campaign would reassess. interesting comments from ted cruz coming just a day before lawmakers here on capitol hill get ready to meet with donald trump, the presumptive gop nominee. and trump, he's quick with insults and is keeping up the praise for paul ryan. says he expects positive developments out of the meetings tomorrow. sources close to paul ryan say that the speaker is not expecting this to be sort of a

yesterday. monica is joining us live from taunton, massachusetts, with the latest. monica? >> reporter: what seems disturbing about the case is that the investigators say the attacks were all random. i want to show you the scene here where it all began. we're here along myra street in taunton, massachusetts. this is where 28-year-old arthur derosa crashed his vehicle and broke into a home stabbing two women yesterday evening. one woman died. now you can still see some of the crime scene tape left here. the home in question is actually across the street from these white homes. sources tell us a mother and daughter were inside when derosa broke in and stabbed them. an 80-year-old woman died at the hospital. the younger woman is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. investigators towed vehicles from the scene here last night and we're learning more about the motive here. we're learning from "the boston harold" that the suspect's family says derosa was mentally disturbed and recently hospitalized for depressio
