tragedies of its kind in texas in decades, a passenger bus rolls over, killing eight people. >> announcer: news 4 at 11:00 starts now. thanks for joining us, i'm erika gonzalez. tonight at 11:00, expect some windy weather and a big, big cool down tomorrow, the blustery conditions likely sent a large tree crashing down on to a truck. first storm team 4 meteorologist amelia draper shows us how low the temperatures will dip. >> lows dipping down into the 40s for everyone. currently a temperature of 56 degrees and look at the wind, already gusting to near 30 miles an hour. windows open kind of weather today, the rain moved through, even some thunderstorms, one severe thunderstorm impacting parts of prince william counties and southern maryland.

on out for the rest of the weekend, our focus turns to cooler temperatures and windy conditions. 6:00 a.m. tomorrow temp around 40 degrees in the district, low to mid 40s in the suburbs. by 8:00 only around 50, definitely want the jacket but the sunglasses as well. a temperature around 53. now, there is the chance for some isolated sprinkles later in the day tomorrow, i will have more on that, plus when we start to warm back up coming up in my full forecast. now we want to go back to the video we showed you a minute ago, the massive crash. look at that. a huge tree came toppling on to a truck on uma street in northwest around 1:00 this afternoon. our mark see grace was on the scene, sent this out via periscope. some of the windy conditions paired with the saturated ground from all of the rain we have had is what likely caused this tree to fall. nobody was hurt, the tree did close roads and knock out power for some time but everything is

for up to the minute weather information you can head to the nbc washington app and click on the weather tab there. gunshots shattering the peace on 12th place southeast this evening sending a young boy to the hospital. news 4's darcy spencer joins us live. darcy, we understand that it wasn't just a couple of shots that witnesses heard. is that right? >> reporter: that's right, erika, witnesses tell me they heard more than a dozen shots fired. now, we don't have official confirmation yet on the age of this little boy, but multiple sources are telling me he is just seven years old. >> we heard a lot of shots r she was attending a friend's baby shower when they heard the bullets flying outside, more than a dozen shots. >> it happened before, four, five years ago, they were right here shooting. during church service. >> reporter: this time it happened outside the lot in broad daylight.

here on the sidewalk a little boy fell to the ground where you see this towel. after being hit by a bullet in the shoulder area. he was taken to the hospital in serious condition. >> we need more patrolling, more police patrolling and coverage, because kids out here, there are a lot of kids that live behind the church. >> reporter: residents concerned that there may have been an exchange of gunfire, the little boy an unintended target of reckless gun play. >> we need people out here that are experienced and have the skills and know how how to get these guns up out of our community. >> reporter: one neighborhood elected leader criticized the mayor and police chief for not coming to the scene, he's demanding more police in ward 8. >> shootings every day in ward 8 and no one is concerned about what is happening to the poor in ward 8. >> something has got to change. we've got to call for some changes with mpd and the way that they

mark segraves was a panelist during the ward 7 debate. it is one of the deadliest bus stents texas has seen in decades, eight people died when a charter bus rolled over on a highway north of laredo. the crash happened around 11:30 this morning. the bus was taking a group from rio grande valley to eagle pass. more than 40 others were injured and at this time there is no word yet on a cause. well, it is going to cost you a little bit more to stay at hotels in arlington. starting july 1st there will be a 25 cent occupancy tax on hotel rooms. the county board approved that and are going to use the money to promote tourism in virginia. it is the second week of passport d.c. when embassies open their doors to visitors. today's events featured embassy union embassy. they sampled food, enjoyed cultural performances, one visitor jumped at the chance to see the inside of the italian

everybody had a good time. the d.c. department of health is making sure people know how to protect themselves from the zika virus. health workers held fight the bite events in all eight wards today. they handed out zika reading material along with prevention kits that included insect repellant and condoms: doctors say the biggest risk remained for unborn fetuses. >> people who are pregnant shouldn't travel to those affected areas and women and men who are thinking about pregnancy should talk to their healthcare provider before they travel. >> there will be more fight the bite events in the district during the summer months. despite much cooler temperatures tomorrow the sun will be out. amelia is going to show us how long the sunny skies will last. and find out why this sorority t-shirt is making so many people upset.

investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a deadly plane crash at an air show today. we want to warn you that the video you are about to see may be disturbing. the plane crashed at the good neighbor day air show outside atlanta. you can see the plane rising and then it just quickly plummets back down to the ground. the pilot died in the crash. the ntsb and faa are investigating. a desperate search off the gulf of mexico after a cruise ship passenger falls overboard. surveillance video shows the woman falling off the carnival liberty ship around 2:00 in the
