light jacket. hey, tom. >> you need a wind breaker this morning. we have the wind gusting up to 30 miles per hour on this sunday morning and we can see that right there at union station. the storm team 4 capitol camera showing the flag flying in a stiff wind that will continue to be with us here true much of the day ahead. right now storm team 4 radar showing no rain or snow in the area. i say snow because western pennsylvania getting some snow right now. that's how chilly the air is north and west of us. and it's keeping us on the cool side. right now beginning to climb into the low 50s. reagan national at 53 degrees. and the capitol camera showing the wind kind of changes direction and it's gusty as can gets calm at times and then gets blowing at 30 miles per hour. we'll look at when things calm down and our next chances to rain coming up this half hour. the winds were no match for this tree. it crashed down on to a track on

afternoon. some of the windy conditions coupled with the saturated ground there all the rain that we've had likely caused the tree to fall. between n good news is mnobody was hurt, but power was knocked out. everything has been restored. police are investigating a robbery at an off campus home on potomac avenue. a male student says he heard a knock at the door and he answered it and three men, one armed with a knife, came into the home and assaulted the resident. the thieves got the away with property from inside. if you know anything that could help identified suspects, call police. a little boy is recovering after he was shot in southeast d.c. now neighbors are calling for change saying that they are just fed up with the reckless gunfire. derrick ward is live in southeast where the shooting happened. and he has some new details for us. good morning, derrick.

we are here in the 3100 block of bruce place in southeast. and police are still out here, actually out here canvassing knocking on doors and trying to gather evidence in the relation to the shooting that happened yesterday just behind me along that fence. and the victim we're told is probably no older than 7 years old. it happened at about 5:30 yesterday afternoon. they were folks in church down the block for a baby shower and they heard grun fire and they found this child had been wounded in the shoulder. we are told that he was taken away conscious and breathing and someone else tells me that the kid is okay now, but of course being shot is never something that you just get okay from, especially when it happens to be a child. police have yet to figure out whether there was one shooter, more than one person, whether there was an exchange of gunfire. they don't think that the child was the intended victim or target of the shooting, but residents have yet to figure out

tandem another plane and then crashed. no one else was hurt. officials are investigating. final arrest after a horrifying or deal. dereck harrison and his father are accused of luring a woman and her teenage daughters to a house and tying it them up. the father turned himself in saturday and dwran helping authorities locate his son. that turned in to a day long manhunt and police finally found the son in wyoming last night. both men are now charged with 16 counts including aggravated kidnapping and possession of a controlled substance. firefighters could soon have half of the time they used to to get to an emergency in frederick county, maryland. county council members are considering new target response times and they would be tailored to stations depending on whether the station is urban, suburban or royal. the fire chief hopes new goals will help areas of weakness and reach

data. it found long distance commuters in both states are getting an earlier start. at 5:00 a.m., on i-95 north at spotsylvania caroline county border, we found a 10% spike in traffic volume since 2010. in fredericksburg, up 6%. in maryland, too, i-95 in howard county near 103 an increase on the beltway in montgomery county at 5:00 a.m. sleep experts say the early wake-ups are driving our area's increased risk of drowsy driving. >> people aren't getting enough sleep during their normal workweek. >> reporter: a research scientist at the virginia tech transportation specializes on the impact of sleep. her team studied more than 100 d.c. area drivers over the course of a year and they found about 20% suffered accidents caused at least this part by drowsiness. >> we have lots of examples showing where people are starting to fall asleep and veer off the lane.

17-year-old carmen found solace in writing about her experience. with ptsd, anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder. on may 15, this sunday, carmen and eric and 12 others will get up on stage and give voice to their struggles by sharing their stories. >> i remember when we sat down, i said i want to see this in every city and we're getting there. we're a small team, but we're very passionate about what we do. >> reporter: this team is also passionate about helping all of us get a better understanding of what it's really like to struggle with mental illness. >> you're a musician, an artist, a write, adventurer. and you're you as a person, you're not some label on the doctor's sheets. >> and that was doreen gentzler reporting. the show is today at 4:00. tickets are $25 or less.
