collapse of a brick building in our area. news 4 at 11:00 starts now. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm erica gonzalez. a 7-year-old shot in broad daylight in the district leaves relatives concerned about their safety. now at 11:00, darcy spencer talks to a member of the boy's family and an emt that happened to be at the right place at the right time. darcy? >> reporter: that's right, erika. the emt was off duty but did not think twice before running to help that little boy. >> this is my bag. there's trauma stuff in there for first aid. >> reporter: veronica is a emt. she was off duty on saturday afternoon attending a baby shower at this church in southeast when she heard shots. >> i ran out the church. ran to my

work. >> reporter: she helped a 7-year-old boy who had a gunshot wound to his shoulder. she applied pressure to the wound and covered him until on-duty medics arrived. >> what was going through your mean when you saw this little guy with a gunshot wound? >> it could have been one of miff kids. >> reporter: the boy was take on the the hospital and is expected to recover. the woman who didn't want to show her face said she boy is her cousin. >> it is crazy. this violence stuff needs to stop. >> reporter: neighbors are fed up with reckless shootings that endanger the lives of children. they want a crime camera in the neighborhood. >> if you see children running around playing, why would you do that? it doesn't make sense. i wasn't home when it happened but what if? i could be a grieving parent right now. >> reporter: she said she is thankful she was in the right place at

packing plant. d.c. fire said it was being converted in to something new. nobody was trapped or injured in this. some of you are sharing the story on our facebook page. be sure to like us on facebook. look at this picture. spotsylvania county police are asking for help to find this man. his name is robert jackson. he's 81 years old and last seen 10:30 this morning. he has alzheimer's and he was driving the family car. the car is a 2009 silver ford escape with virginia plates kv-1666. please call 911 or local police if you have seen him or if you have seen that vehicle. ntsb investigators are trying to figure out what caused yesterday's bus crash that killed eight people and injured dozens more. they are in laredo, texas, right now and that's where we find sara, who shows how a trip to a casino ended in tragedy. we're told the majority of

victims are in their 60s and one as old as 83. they were traveling to a casino on the texas-mexico border. they were on a charter bus when it rolled just before noon. the county medical examiner describing it as the worst commercial vehicle accident she's seen in ten years. the ntsb is on scene. they have launched their own investigation looking in to what caused this accident. one possibility, slick roads. we're told it was raining at the time of the accident. no word if that contributed to this tragedy. until laredo, texas, nbc news. a sea of blue outside of the u.s. capitol today. police officers around the country in town to honor those who died in a line of duty. they gathered on the west front of the capitol for the national peace officers memorial. it is part of police week in the district. this is the 35th year of the event that remembers police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. >> this tribute allows us to show you the

we will never let our nation forget your sacrifices. >> reporter: the officers participated in a wreath-laying ceremony after the service. more problems on metro tonight. trains had to single track for a while between friendship heights and medical center around 6:00 tonight. the fire department was called out after reports of an arcing insulator. metro said there was never any fire or smoke. the crews did replace the problem insulator. debris on the tracks started to smolder at the l'enfant plaza station. crews extinguished the fire quickly. there were no major delays. fire vegters are trying to figure out how a fire started on this 13th ploor of an apartment building in baileys cross roads today. firefighters were ableable to get a good handle on this. it started on the balcony of the high-rise building and spread to the inside of the apartment. nobody was home at

go. bystanders killed the shark but couldn't get it off the woman's arm. she had to be taken to the hospital with the shark still attached to her. the woman only had a small bite. she was treated and released from the hospital. a stadium full of soccer fans evacuated before a huge match today. somebody found a us suspicious device. and turns out it was from an earlier training exercise. police are now on the defensive. >> reporter: this soccer match, this manchester united soccer match was called off today. huge stadium evacuated because of what police say was an incredibly life like but fake explosive device. they say it was not viable. it was found in the stadium
