washington, very closely and let you know exactly what they say about the derailment a year ago that killed eight and injured 200. back to you. 5:04. today the trial begins for a husband accused of murdering his wife in loudoun county. prosecutors say braulio castillo killed his wife and tried to make it look like a suicide. the couple was in the melgsd of a birth divorce. the wife was found hanging in the basement bathroom of her home. the trial is expected to last a month. the man accused of causing chaos at the u.s. capitol visitors center in march is back in court. 66-year-old larry dawson was formally charged last week. police say the tennessee man pointed a bee bee gun that looked like a handgun at a u.s. capitol police officer. dawson was shot and has been in the hospital since the incident. he faces more than 50 years in prison if convicted. > w

out of fairfax county where police have just told us that they are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident. this is in burke, virginia. the crash happened just after 9:00 p.m. last night near burke road where it meets burke lake road. we are still waiting to get more details, but if you were in the area and have any information, call police. verizon and its workers back to the bargaining table today. nearly 40,000 have been on strike for more than a month now. the unions believe that verizon wants to cut benefits and rely more on contract workers. two states hold presidential primary elections today. kentucky and oregon. kentucky already held its republican caucus, so voters there will only weigh in on the democratic race. 60 democratic delegates are up for grabs in kentucky, another 74 in oregon. presumptive gop nominee donald trump is looking to take all

mayor after a day of violence. typhoon people shot in broad daylight. the community is demanding answers and action. melissa mollett is live in southeast with the new efforts. >> reporter: gcno suspect information this morning and that's it tough for people to hear after five shot, two dead in the span of under four hours. police say two of those shootings are connected. we want to show you a map of the area. police are looking into a kegs in the shooting that left a man dead on the 4800 block of texas avenue in an alley. that happened around midday. and just showers later, a woman died in the 100 block of 49th street in southeast. witnesses say they heard six shots, that victim fell to the ground and died at the scene. we hear she was caught up in that hail of bullets as she headed home. now, this violence, this

residence. police tell us in both cases the man was wearing a dark jacket with a hood pulled up and may have been driving a tan four door sedan. today jury selection will continue in the trial of andrew shull. he and his wife are accused of attacking her former boss and his wife in 2014. alecia had just been fired. schmuhl's defense is involuntary intoxication. his lawyers argue that his mental state during the attack was the result of medication that he was taking. alecia schmuhl is being tried separate thely. fairfax county police are trying to figure out the identity of a woman whose body was found in a pond on ridge pond road in centreville. police say a resident walking nearby spotted the body. a dive team pulled it from the water just after 3:00 p.m. they don't know how long the body had been there. turning how to the officers on trial in the death of freddie gray. the defense team for

today. prosecutors rested on monday. the defense says nero was not involved in gray's arrest and that it's the wagon driver's responsibility to buckle in prisoners. nero faces assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment charges. some metro lines will be moving more slowly today because the system has reduced its train systems p. it will affect the red, orange, silver and blue lines. trains will only travel at a maximum speed of 45 miles per hour. metro wants to reduce the risk of fire and smoke problems. bus access to national harbor is limited, but now lawmakers want to create a new bus route between alexandria and the harbor to provide access before the new mgm casino is open for business. metro says there are no formal plans yet. decades old farm tradition in fredericksburg will come to an end this week.

bergdahl is back in court, he's facing a court martial and possible life sentence for leaving his combat in afghanistan years ago. he was then captured by the taliban and held for five years. today a hearing officer could push the case from august until the end of the year. the boat two florida teens went missing in at sea has been returned to shore. it belonged to 14-year-old friends perry cohen and austin stephanos. it was recovered off the coast of better hurmuda in march. cohen's other says she wants the boat to be examined as a possible crime scene. the boys disappeared after they left to go fishing in july off the coast of jupiter, florida. a prep school graduate convicted of sexual assault will be free during his appeal. a new hampshire judge is allowing owen labrie to be released with electronic monitoring. he was found guilty last year of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old frisch man as part
