men stormed this local video game shop. pat collins talked with the boy's parents today. he joins us now live from silver spring in montgomery county. >> reporter: imagine you're in a store and all of a sudden you're caught in the middle of an armed robbery. now imagine what it must be like for a 7-year-old boy. >> well, he's tough. he's tough. i think instincts come out in situations like that. >> reporter: that's the mother of the little boy. we're not identifying her. when you hear what happened, you'll understand why. now keep an eye on the boy, caught in the middle of an armed robbery. he punches one of the gunman in the stomach not once, but twice. it happened at this game stop store in four corners. and it was all captured by security cameras. the 7-year-old boy was with

>> reporter: that little boy had some super power help in the encounter with the gunman. i'll explain coming up. we have learned prince william county police are searching for two men who they say bound and gagged two women and two kids in a home in manassas. someone called yesterday afternoon saying they saw a woman tied up in a home on king george drive. they found two women, one is 33 years old, the other is 19, and two little boys, 4 and 5 years old, all of them bound and gagged. a toddler was also found in that home unharmed. it appears two men broke in, demanded some money. police say the men sexually assaulted one of the women. right now, police do not have a good description of who they're looking for. a forgotten cell phone may have been key to tracking down two people charged in a jewelry store robbery

after the shootout near dubai jewelers, a masked man carjacked two vehicles. the first was a stick shift and the suspect couldn't drive it. he apparently left his phone behind before he stole another car. a 16-year-old girl who was hit by a car in prince george's county, she has now died. a car hit her as she was crossing the street. it occurred earlier this month. investigators say the teenager was in a crosswalk, but she did not have the walk signal. the driver stayed at the scene. a three-year sentence for a man convicted of trying to sell heroin in montgomery county. he was accused of trying to buy $25,000 in heroin from dealers in tanzania to sell on our local streets. narcotics experts say that is more than 3,000 individual doses of the drug. after he serves his time, he d

>> one problem after another. goodness gracious. >> reporter: terry mcauliffe today on the radio signing an executive director ordering his transportation officials to meet with metro immediately to come up with new safety protocols. if metro doesn't meet virginia's standards, he'll withhold their funding. >> if they do not meet our safety protocols, we're going to withhold funding. >> reporter: mcauliffe's threat comes just hours before d.c., maryland, and virginia released their joint proposal for legislation that will create a new safety metro commission. the commission would have the power to suspend rail service, issue fines, and compel metro to take corrective action.

it's been nearly a year and this remains the best evidence of a shooting death of a young reporter in the district. more than a dozen people here riding atvs in southeast d.c. those dirt bike riders had been involved in a shootout that killed charnice milton. >> her family has a message, quote, speak life at all times. she was hit by a stray bullet while she was waiting for a bus. there have been no arrests. milton grew up in the district and returned to cover news east of the anacostia. nbc washington has an interview with her family who shared new photos of milton in her younger years. we take a look at the struggling neighborhood where milton lived an

new at 5:30, new video evidence revealed today in court. here it is. this is the trial of that lawyer who is accused of terrorizing and nearly killing a couple in mclean. and tonight, prosecutors say that attack could have been much worse. >> andrew schmuhl and his wife alicia are both charged. he is being tried first using an involuntary intoxication

today at dozens of items of items that prosecutors say were tools of a vicious attack. they believe andrew schmuhl had planned to torch the victim's house after he fled. a taser, a knife, and a gun. november 9th, 2014. defendant andrew schmuhl allegedly used all three weapons in an attack on leo fisher and sue duncan. weapons were found inside the schmuhl's getaway vehicle. during the chase, police saw andrew schmuhl disrobing. by the time he surrendered, he was wearing only a diaper. as he began to take evidence from the suv, he spotted men's clothing piled on the floor. inside the suit jacket pocket a taser with two darts missing.

when andrew schmuhl burst into the house. a semiautomatic handgun like this one in a best buy bag. one cartridge gone. sue duncan was shot once, the bullet grazing her head. a folding pocketknife. both victims were repeatedly stabbed and cable ties used to bind the couple. then gasoline and a plastic bottle. a pair of men's shoes soaked in gas and this automatic timer device altered with clamps. the detective found the entryway rug also soaked with gasoline. prosecutors believe andrew schmuhl had intended to activate the timing device on the house leaving the house and both victims to burn. what interrupted that plan and likely saved the victim's lives at
