this monster tornado touched down in bryan, texas. look at that thing. more than two dozen homes were damaged by. in woodlands, texas, one brave driver got caught what looks more like a lake than a highway. that driver was luckier than these folks whose cars wound up stuck and stranded. nbc meteorologist bill karins is here. usually they say if you can't see the bottom of it, don't drive through it. >> get out. that is what is happening tonight. there have been a lot of water rescues taking place in texas. people have been getting their vehicles stranded and people going to observe the flash flooding going on down just to the south of college station. this is an area of great concern. a flash flood emergency for this region. they have gotten a ton of rain the last 12 hours and another band, slow moving thunderstorms moving over the same exact areas where the crews are out there doing water rescues already. we have had a crazy amount of rainfall in this area. this is houston area here. that hasn't been too bad but north of houston, this area of

between 10 to 16 inches of rain. that is 15 inches of rainfall our doppler estimates and large area and this is where the water is everywhere. imagine a foot of rainfall in about 12 hours. that is why we have flash flood emergencies for this entire region here and flash flood warnings from austin to houston at this time as we continue to watch the slow moving area of storms and life-threatening weather. as far as severe weather goes today and tornado, won't be as much today as the last coupled but from oklahoma to north texas and scattered strong storms from st. louis up to chicago today. the east coast is still very warm but continuing -- i'd rather be hot than dealing with the dangerous weather we have had in the middle of the nation. that is your national weather. here is a closer look at your day ahead. the thunderstorm threat will end this morning and then we will reload and get another round of storms later on this afternoon. we will also see some of those storms pushing into the ohio valley. it's going to be warm and a little more sticky. humidity on the increase a little bit in the northeast. so we will continue to update you on the situation in texas.
