it's going to be a mess on the roads today with people getting out of town for the holiday weekend. but right now is your chance. news 4's meagan mcgrath is live at the chesapeake bay bridge at the toll booth. how is traffic looking right now, meagan? >> reporter: well, you can see behind me live here at the toll booth this can often be a choke point, and right now everything is looking pretty good. you can see that we have a slight -- a little bit of a slowdown here especially in the lanes where people are paying cash. but the ez pass, only lanes in the far left, those folks pretty much going right through. we have a slowdown once you get through the toll booth itself because we have 11 lanes going into three lanes. so there is a little bit of drag, but once you get that merge taken

back up on the bridge. so great time to leave. that's what the experts had said. they predicted actually yesterday would be the peak travel day for a lot of people leaving town and that today would not be as bad. and that's what we're seeing out here this morning. they say that the best time to leave today is 11:00 a.m., so really right now if you're going to be crossing the bridge that's your best time. in terms of the worst time to get going today, well, that is from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. that's when we're expecting things to really slow down. now, we are going to be taking a live drive over the bridge itself here in the next half hour, so we're going to show you the conditions there in just a little while. back to you guys at the studio. >> all right. and now to that all-important memorial day forecast, lauryn, we have gone in drastic changes from cold and rainy. >> yeah. >> just a few days ago to now are we already at 90? >> not yet. >> it feels -- >> it is and the humidity is going to continue to pump in.

the fairfax fire department for 20 years. she's now suing 17 firefighters after she says she endured bullying and sexual harassment during her tenure. she says it all started when she became a firefighter in 1996. and only on news 4 she says the harassment continued for years, even at a work conference. >> on a number of occasions i had a couple of firefighters come to my room 2:00, 3:00 in the morning just constantly harassing me about sex. >> two years ago a judge dismissed a federal discrimination lawsuit tomasello filed against the department. this lawsuit comes a month after firefight nicole mittendorff's suicide, it had be

of those tornadoes out west. it's amazing how close these people got to them. >> this is in central kansas where we're hearing no one was hurt, thankfully. however, as many as 25 homes were seriously damaged. some totally destroyed. news 4's molettreen has more on the severe weather from our live desk now. molette, what's happening? >> barbara, just in, two confirmed fatalities from those severe storms out in texas. first responders from washington county say one person drowned, the second person suffered a heart attack. rescue crews say another person is missing and are searching for that person right now. some of these water levels as high as 20 inches. we've been following these storms throughout the morning near austin and houston that brought this driving rain and flooded the roads. more than 50 roads closed right now. that is the latest. back to you. >> all right. molette, thanks so much. we know that area very well. that's where i grew up where they're gettio

continues the burger. it's like this weekend, memorial day weekend, you're outside. >> having one at home, if we're going to try -- i know the best one will be at your shack. >> right. >> but if i'm doing at my shack, am i going out to buy what kind of ground beef am i going to look for? >> you want 100% ground beef usda ground beef. and you really want a thin patty, because on the grill if it's too thick, it's going to get too charred. >> people think you should start with thick. >> you want a thinner burger, you really do on the char broiling. the next thing is the grill needs to be hot. we cook our char burgers at 550 to 600 degrees. >> okay. >> but at home depends on what equipment you have you want to keep it shut. and then you want to season it before you put the burgers on. >> go for it. marco, you can start making it. let me ask you about condiments and things. first off take a look over here we've got some cheese, american cheese? >> good old american ch

about. we let it melt, take from char broiler, on a griddle, in the restaurant we'd be using, and then melted cheese on it. he's building the burger. start with a toasted bun. very important. >> he said the bun is the most important elements, right? >> that is important even when you're at home char broiling at home is that well-toasted bun. very, very important. >> okay. >> toasted bun, mayo, pickles, fresh lettuce. >> what kind of pickles? >> tomato. the dill pickles the best. absolutely. this is a double char. >> oh, that looks great. >> so now add some sauteed onions. >> oh, you -- >> recaramelize our onions for about half an hour. >> how do you do that? chop up the onions? >> chop them up and use olive oil, seasoning and let them cook on the griddle and cook down. the longer they cook, the better they are. >> is that the secret ingredient? >> that's one of the secret
