fallen soldiers and remembering those still missing in action. the rolling thunder ride began at the pentagon going over the memorial bridge and into the district sunday morning. we caught up with one man who won't let the memory of his father be forgotten. >> i found a film in the archives of my father as a prisoner. >> well, today thunder alley will be open from 9:00 until 5:00. virginia state police investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in arlington county sunday. they say a group of motorcyclists were traveling on ichlts 66 when they came upon stopped traffic. the victim was not able to brake in time and fell from his bike. he was wearing his helmet and later died at the hospital. investigators have not identified the victim. turning to decision 2016 now, presumptive republican nominee donald trump addressed the annual rolling thunder alley sunday. he spoke about a numb

water and there are rip currents on the shore. the storm is supposed to move north through the carolinas this week. it's a holiday schedule for metro today. what that means is riders will pay off peak fares to take metro between 7:00 and midnight. they will wait on a sunday schedule. there are no orange line trains today. there is also no vre or marc service. there are more concerns this morning about personal safety at metro stations after a teen girl was shot in anacostia. metro transit police say a teen girl was shot in the leg at the entrance to the anacostia station last night. just after 7:30, the girl walked up to an officer to say she had been shot. one person was taken into custody near the station, but it is not known if that person had anything to do with the shooting. metro says no arrests have been made. the shooting rattled passengers. >> i can't

that is going on with our youth today. it's just really shocking. anybody got any answers, let me know. because i really would like to know what can we do. >> the teen was taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. police also plan to review surveillance cameras located outside the station. a d.c. police officer was hurt after a driver hit two police cars and then sped away. that driver is now in police custody after a pursuit. police caught up with the suspect at the 3rd street tunnel near the massachusetts avenue exit p no one else was hurt. and himself right now, a man is in critical condition. d.c. police saying that an off duty officer shot the him yesterday. ris say that the officer saw the man carrying several objects in the 300 block of h street northeast. the officer believed that that man was shoplifting and told them to stop. the man they say pulled out a gun and that's when the off

officer shot him. police in maryland have arrested two people in connection with the murder of an 81-year-old. they say that one of the suspects is related to the elderly woman killed. arizona state police arrested crystal stanley and jerry smith jr. police say they killed margaret mcalister inside her home on may 20th. washington county sheriff's office says stanley is the woman's great niece. the suspects are being held behind bars in arizona until they can be cextradited to maryland. and we're expecting to get more information today about the incident at the cincinnati zoo. this is where the little boy slipped into the gorilla exit exhibit. >> i'm right here. >> after this 4-year-old fell in, he was dragged by a 17-year-old gorilla. it was later shot by the zoo's dangerous animal team who deemed the situation to be life threatening. the boy was treated and released

good morning. i'm tom kierein on this memorial day morning. we have a mostly cloudy sky in the metro area, but there are some tropical showers now from the outer banks and all the way from virginia beach up to ocean city. that is generally all east of 95, much of the rain activity throughout the day today. a few scattered sprinkles tracking across virginia, maryland and west virginia and the district. and for the memorial day events today and the parade, mostly cloudy and mild for the morning hours and much of the metro area should be dry in the morning. but a chance of a few passing showers mainly during the

corridor. so have an umbrella ready if you will be heading out to any of the parades today. a look at our rain chances over the next seven days, that's coming in about ten minutes. this is pretty unbelievable video we got in from prince george's county. setting off fire works in front of somebody's home. it happened on saturday in riverdale. it caused a lot of damage to the house, the siding of the home is melted and the door is charred by all the smoke. the homeowner did not want to be identified. >> the kids, they were laughing and things like that, so we were like was it a tank, was it -- we didn't know what was going on. >> i live about a block away and it woke us all up. i talked to several neighbors and they all say the same thing, about 2:00 in the morning they just heard this explosion. >> pretty dangerous stuff there. thankfully nobody was

now to a scary story on a florida beach. vacation season just getting under way and a boy was attacked by a shark. this happened outside jacksonville. police say a 13-year-old boy was bitten on the leg. the boy has serious but injuries are not deadly. another boy helped rescue him. >> i brought him back to the sandbar and there was two nice people that i handed the boy off to. and i ran and i told my mom. >> a little hero there. one of the scariest things about this attack, the teenager was only in about 2 feet of water when the shark bit him. donald trump launching a new attack, how his campaign is turning its attention ahead of the california primary. thousands pay tribute on memorial day with flowers and services. how volunteers are going above and beyond the call of duty.

district policy. new research shows that students in virginia who are minorities or have disabilities seem to face suspension more than others. our news partners at wtop say the latest findings come from a new report by just children. it shows that statewide african-american students were 3.6 times more likely to be suspended than white students. and students with disabilities were 2.4 more times to be suspended. however the report also shows that suspension rates are declini declining. northern virginia had fewer suspensions than the rest of the commonwealth. at 4:48, we have learn willed the name of the man killed early sunday morning in a double shooting. d.c. police say that william arthur wells jr. was shot on blaine street in southeast. a second man was also shot and is still recovering in the hospital. they have not said what may have led up to the shooting. no arrests so far. after more than seven hours, a 1,000

the leak actually began late saturday night outside a home on meridian road. crews had to wait up tell all of the gas burped off before they could remove it. it took more than 70 firefighters to put out a restaurant fire at a strip mall in prince george's county. the fire started around 7:00 sunday morning on queens chapel road. d.c. firefighters were called into help prince george's county. investigators say the flames did $750,000 worth of damage. it's not clear how the fire actually started. this morning two officers from houston are out of the hospital following a shoot-out at an auto shop. four others remain hospitalized including the person police say is the possible suspect. they're taking a look at video from above. the three others still in the hospital have told police that they were in their cars when they were shot. a customer at the auto detail shop was killed sunday morning when a map wan walked in and be shooting.

are around the metro area, we're mostly dry thousand. actually a few breaks in the clouds this morning. but this general flow out of the south will keep a chance at least a small chance this morning of some showers coming through. there is the washington monument and the pavement for the most part now is drying out around much of the region. temperatures are mild this morning. if you're about to head out the door, have a poncho or umbrella ready because we could have a few sprinkles coming through. right now mid and upper 60s. the hour by hour forecast will have temperatures in the mid-70s by 10:00 with a little sun maybe peeking through. so for the parades going on in the morning, i'll be the emcee of the parade in rockville starting at 10:00. so we may see a little sun for that. and then the afternoon parade downtown, showers just east of 95, it will be near 80. and then showers likely by 6:00 p.m. throughout much of the region. by dawn tomorrow, we'll be in the mid-60s back to work and school. by 9:00 in the morning with sunshine, we'll be near 70.

because that car drives through the store. is this happening out in western new york. in a town between rochester and buffalo. amazingly the man and everybody inside made it out with just minor injuries. and the driver, he was charged with a dwi. could have been a lot worse. this is something not to try at home. world famous base jumper successfully performed what is known as the human error stunt at the great wall of china on sunday he jumped out of a helicopter at 6,000 feet. i'm never doing this. and flew through the area to hit a target suspended over the wall. he was flying at 120 miles per hour. >> i'm not courageous enough to do that. we're approaching the 5:00 hour and here is a story that has impacted many people. they're trying to find a better life. thousands of migrants have been rescued in the mediterranean sea in just

we're finding out the numbers from the ships that sank while packed with migrants. some who died were babies or pregnant mothers. the united nation says that some 200,000 migrants have tried to cross the mediterranean this year. thousands have been children who arrived without their parents. pope francis awarded medals to three actors at the vatican to promote the work of a foundation inspired by the pontiff. the actors were honored for their work as ambassadors for one of the foundation's art projects. the pope was also atted by a group of youtube creators from different parts of the world who asked him how to construct a better world. the kennedy center is kicking off a year long celebration of its name sake president john f. kennedy. the 35th president of the u.s. would have been 99 years old on
