county police working hard following up on leads after a man is murdered in hyattsville. i'm tracee wilkins. the latest in this still very active investigation. and a new twist in the murder-suicide at ucla. another victim has been found 2,000 miles away from the crime scene on campus. he is accused of torture and murder in his native country of somalia. >> tonight a local congressman is demanding answers about that. david culver has a report now on all of this including a report on what kind of access this guard had. >> reporter: vance and doreen, ali was not a tsa agent, but i did ask around inside dulles airport. as part of his job, he did patrol the tsa secured portion of the airport.

tonight, congresswoman barbara comstock wonders how he got that job. >> right now, we're not getting answers from ice or from any of the agencies involved that explain to us what type of process they went through. >> reporter: the allegations against youssef ali aren't new. in fact in 1998, jim handly questioned the colonel on his military past in somalia. >> you've been accused of ordering the executions of more than a hundred people. do you deny that? >> reporter: the most recent claims against ali come from a somali man who says he was beaten, torture, shot and ultimately left for dead at the direction of youssef ali. in february, the court of appeals said it didn't have jurisdiction to rule. i spoke with ali's attorney. >> ali is entitled to immunity as an official or former official of the somali government. >> reporter: ali left somalia before the country's regime collapsed. he worked as a security guard in canada in the early 90s.

ali for serious human rights abuses and then he came to the united states. >> if canada saying, no, you can't be here, why are we saying yes, you can? >> reporter: a cnn investigation found ali most recently worked as a security guard at dulles airport. the congresswoman wants to be sure the vetting process included social media searches. >> if you have a baby sitter you're going to high for your child, you go online. you maybe look at their facebook page. >> reporter: the congresswoman also pointed out you could have googled him and you would have seen ali's history. the metropolitan washington airport authority said to me in a statement that the private security contractor that employs ali master security properly vetted him for that position. master security tell me that ali is on administrative leave tonight. according to ali's attoy

says this case has been appealed to the u.s. supreme court. vance? two men taken in for questioning just steps away from a murder scene in hyattsville. the victim shot and killed why on his way to play some basketball. it happened yesterday off 69th place and greenville parkway. tracee wilkins joins us now with what we have learned about the victim. >> reporter: sources close to this investigation tell me that when the victim was coming down the street bouncing a basketball it may have hit the vehicle of the person who shot him. that may be what led to the exchange of words and then ultimately the gunshots that shot and killed him. here behind me just a little while ago we watched as prince george's county police took two people into custody for questioning. he was one of the first to the scene after 20-year-old conrad cole was shot and killed in

>> there was two shots. pop, pop. >> reporter: yesterday's violence was so unusual that he couldn't imagine someone being shot on his block. >> i saw him running, but i didn't realize he was shot until i went closer. >> reporter: our cameras rolled as police swarmed a group of men just steps from the murder scene. two were placed in detective's vehicles. police say they are questioning the men, but are not calling them suspects in yesterday's murder of 20-year-old conrad cole. >> we're not going to rest until this person is custody. >> reporter: cole was at a nearby transitional group home. words were exchanged with someone in a parked car. the driver of the vehicle fired at cole. the passenger tried assisting until police sirens got closer to the scene. police want to talk to that person. >> i'm reaching out to that person directly. i'm asking you -- and if this person has reached out to y

and injured two others outside the westville montgomery mall. then he shot and killed a woman outside the giant's grocery store. he is also accused of killing his estranged wife just one day before the other shootings. new details about the gunman in that murder-suicide at ucla. he left behind a trail of evidence that led investigators to another victim in another state. >> shots fired at the parking lot. >> reporter: the shooting that sent the ucla campus wednesday is not what it first appeared to be. >> the city is on tactical alert status citywide. >> reporter: on campus a murdered professor and husband assailant also dead. the gunman is mainak sarkar. a 2013 ph.d. graduate of the ucla school of

about 15 minutes. new reaction to hillary clinton's blistering broadside of donald trump. in many ways her foreign policy address mirrored mitt romney's takedown back in march. >> i believe the person the republicans have nominated for president cannot do the job. he is not just unprepared. he is temperamentally unfit. he says he doesn't have to listen to our generals or admirals, our ambassadors, and other high officials because he has, quote, a very good brain. he says climate change is a hoax invented by the chinese. he says he has foreign policy experience because he ran the miss universe pageant in russia.

scene where a blue angels jet went down. no parachute deployed and the pilot of the jet is believed dead. this is in smyrna, tennessee, 20 miles outside nashville. the blue angels were performing practice runs for an air show this weekend when the crash happened. a press conference expected to begin there any minute now. we have new video of the air force thunder birds crash that happened today in colorado. that pilot did eject and is expected to recover. air force officials said he made a conscious effort to direct that plane away from nearby neighborhoods. metro's major overhaul begins this weekend and it will most likely impact your commute even if you don't ride the rails. starting on monday, there will be parking restrictions on certain roads in d.c. because of the safetrack program. as mark segraves reports, it is one of several changes the district is making to try to

planned metro delays spaced out over 15 phases, even commuters who don't use metro will feel the impact beginning next week. district officials are predicting lots of metro riders will opt to drive to work. add to that more metro and circulator buses on the roads and that means congestion. d.c. will expand rush hour on major roads until 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. you'll have to read those no parking signs carefully. >> every sign along the street will be changed. we'll actually come in and put a decal over the existing sign and change the sign. people need to be very conscious of what the posted sign says. >> reporter: the district will also add more traffic control officers at major intersections and bridges and bike share will offer $2 rentals for 30 minutes. >> they don't necessarily have to make a full day commitment to the bike.

relationship. >> reporter: depending on how the extended rush hour goes, the hours could be expanded if necessary. ddot does have plans to add more roads to the list in august. mark segraves, news4. bus service connecting to the silver line is expanding in loudoun county in virginia. today, loudoun county board chairperson phyllis randall cut the ribbon on the first of several ne buses. they'll run between the wheelly-reston station and dulles town center. it was supposed to be a massage, but it turned into something inappropriate. they arrested 24-year-old nicholas curry last week. he's been charged with sexual battery. he worked at the massage envy. a woman who got a massage last month says curry

inappropriately at the session. curry is no longer employed there. a jury in the district is deliberating in the case of a man accused of beating and raping a woman in her home in southeast d.c. the man's name is antoine pitt. he is a repeat offender who cut off his ankle monitor before allegedly committing the brutal assault. our chris gordon has more on what happened today in court. >> reporter: residents of the east hill neighborhood were shocked by the charges that a repeat offender on probation cut off his court-ordered gps and allegedly committed a string of crimes over a two-week period last october. now here at d.c. superior court 21-year-old antoine pitt is on trial for raping and beating a young mother in her southeast apartment. >> i don't understand why he was out on the streets. i mean, he was caught in martin luther king library with a gps

then the judge let him go. the judge let him go and then my neighbor was raped. >> reporter: the victim testified that her attacker was 6'5" wearing distinctive gray shoes with orange shoe laces. yesterday a note from the jury indicated that one juror was uncertain if there had been a rape. >> the victim testified, testified, about the horrific attack, testified about the bones that were broken in her face. >> reporter: this morning one juror sent a note to the judge asking to be excused for deliberations saying he's not well. the judge questioned the juror and concluded she didn't look well and excused her. an alternate juror who heard the case was called back to court today to joi the jury which restarted its deliberations. this evening the jury sent a note to the judge saying they want to see transcripts of some of the witness testimony in this trial. they will resume deliberations next

drama in a fairfax county courtroom as the suspect in a violent and bizarre home invasion sees his wife take the witness stand. >> andrew schmuhl's defense team is putting on its case now. they want to convince the jurors that schmuhl was so heavily medicated that he was in fact impaired when he staged that attack. julie carey has our report. >> reporter: well, the defense team dealt a blow after a judge ruled they could no longer use the involuntary intoxication defense. they turned to schmuhl's doctors and his wife to look at the possible impact of the heavy medications he was taking to deal with back pain and other ailments. andrew schmuhl dressed only in a diaper when police arrested him and his wife just hours after the november 9th 2014 home

this police dash cam video shows he struggled to answer questions as police quiz him about medications. today schmuhl's lawyers called his wife alicia to testify, hoping to asking her about his medical condition. she's being tried separately, but once on the stand she asserted her fifth amendment right and declined to answer questions. defense attorneys say she was the master mind behind the near deadly attack on a mclean lawyer and his wife bent on revenge after victim leo fisher fired her from his law firm. jurors did hear about andrew schmuhl's medical issues from this man, the va doctor who treated schmuhl at a pain clinic. schmuhl schmuhl e eer -- schmuhl was ta 12 medications. said the doctor, he was spending most of his time in bed. he couldn't take part in

daily pleasures of life. his quality of life was bad. but prosecutors believe schmuhl was duping doctors, lying about his condition to get powerful drugs and they offered this photo as proof. andrew schmuhl helping to reroof a house just two weeks before the attack, but other doctors testified schmuhl was in grave condition when he was brought to the emergency room just after his arrest. a doctor says she had to give him an overdose reversal drug to revive him. and by the way, there was no eye contact between the couple today when alicia schmuhl came to the courtroom. on monday, jurors will get to see texts exchanged between the couple in the weeks before the attack. police say they have identified two men seen in recent videos driving dangerously on atvs. investigators say they are determined to get those guys off the streets. kristin wright has our story now frm

examiner's report on the death of prince confirms what many suspected. he died of a drug overdose. the drug was fentanyl and the medical examiner's report says it was self-administered. fentanyl is a painkiller that is far more powerful than morphine. investigators have been reviewing whether a doctor was prescribing drugs for prince in the weeks before his death. prince was found dead on april 21st at his estate in minneapolis. here are four things to know about medications like fentanyl. there are a type of prescription drug known as opioids. they are most often used to treat moderate to severe pain. they can produce a state of euphoria and that can be habit forming. at least half of the drug overdose deaths in 2014 involved prescription drugs. most of the time opioids were involved. coming up tonight, new safety upgrades at the cincinti

we have an update now on the breaking news we brought you at 5:00. new details just coming in about a deadly crash between an suv and a cyclist in gaithersburg. darcy spencer on the scene now with the latest. we' we' >> reporter: we're here in the 100 block ofrederick in gaithersburg. a teenager died as a result of this bicycle crash that happened out here about four hours ago. take a look here. we just found out that the teenager was riding his bike here on the sidewalk about 2:30 this afternoon. apparently, he crashed into a commercial sign and then fell into the roadway. t'

killed. the bicyclist has been identified. his name was santo escobar. he was just 16 years old and lived very close by here in the city of gaithersburg. police have identified the driver who struck him as an 18-year-old from redding, pennsylvania. we're told that that driver was not hurt. police are still investigating the circumstances behind this crash. it happened right around 2:30 this afternoon. again, we're working to get additional details to see if the boy was perhaps riding home from school when this happened, but it appears to be a tragic, tragic accident here with a boy simply riding his bike on the sidewalk, hits a sign, and then ends up in the roadway getting struck and killed. the cincinnati zoo plans to reopen its exhibit next week after a 3-year-old fell into the enclosure and was picked up by a

400-pound gorilla. the gorilla was shot and killed by the zoo. the cincinnati zoo says it has added higher safety barriers now to the gorilla exhibit. cincinnati's prosecutor is reviewing the case to determine if anyone from the boy's family will face criminal charges. 22 people, most of them elementary school students, were rescued today when the boat they were on sank in waters off bloods worth island in the chesapeake bay. police say it was a charter boat that hit something under the surface and then went down in about ten feet of water. it happened yesterday. luckily a local fisherman heard the mayday call. they plucked everyone off the sinking boat one by one and took them all back to the dock safely. the chesapeake bay foundation uses that particular boat, the one that sank, for public

where it belongs gets sold on the black market. >> it's in somebody'sbasement? >> it's in somebody's basement. >> reporter: our i-team department recovered a painting missing for more than 16 years from the baltimore museum of art. a renoir painting. he painted it on a linen napkin. when the fbi tracked it down, it was too long after the fact to figure out who stole it, but they recovered it just before it went on sale in virginia at auction. this long and curious case the i-team discovered is more common than you might think. take the elaborate case of a convicted art thief and escape artist. you're watching video of him escaping custody in san francisco last week. he was on the run for a week. he posed as the head of a new art museum and told a new york art dealer he wanted to buy some works to show at his

should pay. after the dealer sent the crates, he texted saying he thought the art was a gift. the feds prosecuted him who in this jailhouse phone call said he would prove his innocence. he was eventually convicted of stealing five crates, $11 million in art, and this piece the sculpture little dancer, which remains missing. the fbi's records reveals the agency has investigated and recovered 2,650 lost pieces of art and historical items. how in the world do you sell it? >> well, there's a vast network of middle men, of international brokers, of looters. >> reporter: some are also stea
