the riders? you get two different answers there. we are live at the boston metro station where the track work is continuing underground. take a look over here. you can see that there are metro vehicles out here. you've got this van. take a look on the other side. you have more metro vehicles. this is a safety vehicle. something we're not used to seeing. 11:00 on a saturday night. all signs that metro's safe track is under way. sparks fly as the improvement project begins on the tracks. here at the ballston station, workers are doing maintenance work. it's the first day riders got a feel for what's to come. >> it takes me like two hours to get to work now. it's a really long commute. as long as they're fixing it, i'm for it. >> the first leg of the massive year-long project started between ballston and east falls church. you can e

as many as three separate brush fires burning across southern california. they're burning north of los angeles. you can see the fire burning close to a recreation center. this is a fairly populated area. a number of neighborhoods have been evacuated already. meteorologists say scorching temperatures and high winds are helping spread these fires. a man facing assault charges and could even face arson charges after this fire at an apartment in langley park. both the police and the fire departments were called to the building on 15th avenue last night. police say they got a call from a woman who says her fiance was assaulting her. she got away and then police believe the man set the building on fire. police detained the suspect nearby. he'll be taken for a mental evaluation. hera

through the area ahead of a cold front after that seemingly gorgeous weather. we'll have plenty of sunshine, comfortable temperatures and more importantly, low humidity. we'll finally lose the mugginess. not the case tomorrow. a moderate to high risk that leads to flash flooding concerns. we could be dealing with high winds and any thunderstorms that could produce some wind damage across the area. a low to moderate risk for son-in-law severe hail as well. we can't rule out an isolated tornado. but the main focus tomorrow afternoon on into the early evening hours is going to be very heavy rainfall and strong gusty winds. here's the latest with future weather. 70 and mostly cloudy skies. there's the chance of a shower but we're really dry from the mid-morning hours into the midday and even early afternoon hours. we'll have much more dry time tomorrow than i'll be tracking storms. but notice, once we start to hit 2:00, 3:00 p.m., we track some very i

4:00 in frederick, fauquier counties. once we hit 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., we start to see heavy rain move into the d.c. metro area. at 6:30, future weather has a line of strong storms impacting the district. prince george's and charles counties. by 7:30, still tracking areas of heavy rain around fredericksburg, and southern maryland. by 8:00, 9:00 p.m., the strong activity is east of the area. we'll be mainly dry at that point. and lowering humidity. currently in the 70s. 75 degrees in washington. waking up tomorrow morning to a temperature of 71. with a shower possible. some limited sunshine. when it's not raining. that will help to fuel the storms in the afternoon around early evening hours. a high of 84 degrees. road conditions for the morning and midday hours looking good. for the afternoon and evening hours, we will be dealing with ponding of water on roads. a heads up there. after that, though, monday, 86.

chris miles from the csn studios. there were two important numbers for stephen strasburg today. 10 and 1,000. he had a chance to get ten wins on the season. he have also had a schans to notch 1,000 career strikeouts. it was possible for him to get both. today he only reached one of the numbers. strasburg still undefeated as he faced the reds this afternoon. bottom of the fifth, strasburg does pick up strikeout number 1,000. he blows one past james straily. sixth inning not as good.
