in the united states. in fact, many, ohamad khweis left virginia to join isis late last year, then defected from the terror group just a few months ago. he's been charged with providing material support to isis. opening statements in the case oens against the driver, facing the most serious charge in freddie gray's death. he was behind the wheel when gray suffered that deadly spinal injury. chris gordon is in downtown baltimore where goodson's trial just began. >> reporter: of the six baltimore police officers indicted in connection with the death of freddie gray, the most serious charges will be heard in this trial of the baltimore police transport wagon driver in which freddie gray suffered a

april of 2015. offic officer goodson faces several charges. if convicted he could face toum 30 years in prison. goodson is also charged with manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment, and misconduct in office. prosecutors say goodson was responsible for the safety of his passenger but that he failed to seat belt freddie gray in the wagon or seek medical help for him. gu the defense says goodson acted as any reasonable officer would. goodson waived his right to a jury trial earlier this week deciding instead to have judge barry williams decide the verdict. just weeks ago, williams acquitted fellow police officer edward nero. in december, officer william porter was tried in court but there was a hung jury leading to a mistrial. porter is expected to be called as

marshall middle school yesterday. she was wearing red chuck taylor shoes, a red polo khaki pants she had on and a denim jacket, they tell us. if you think you can help, please call prince george's county police. i'm megan mcgrath in northwest with developing news about an emergency community meeting been called by the police in the wake of a quadruple shooting that took place yesterday in front of the big ben liquors. police returned to the scene early this morning. take a look. they were here passing out flyers, letting people know about this meeting and asking people for information about what happened. now, the meeting is happening tonight at 7:00 at the 5th district community room. police are going to be giving an update on their investigation. they are also looking for help in identifying this man. take a look at this surveillance video. police want to talk to the person in this video. now, the images are not the

greatest. you can see that the man has covered his face. he's wearing a hoodie covering his head. but police are hopeful that it's enough that someone may recognize his body language or his clothing and give them a call. they want to talk to this individual. now, the shooting happened wednesday at around 4:30 in the afternoon in front of the big ben liquors at new york avenue and north capital street. the gunman shot a man on the sidewalk. three others in the area were also wounded. and a police officer on bike patrol was hit by a car as he responded to this shooting yesterday. now, everybody is going to be okay. all of the injuries are said to be nonlife-threatening. but the shooter is still on the loose, and police say they need help in this case. back to you in the studio. all right. brand-new developments in a homicide investigation in upper marlboro. news4's derrick ward is live right now

derrick? >> reporter: we're in here in the 700 block in upper marlboro. you see the house where this happened is still being secured by police. it is still a crime scene. now, we have learned some new information about what transp e transpired here, at least something about the victim. take a look at the scene earlier this morning. it was about 12:40 last night or 12:40 this morning when police were called to the scene to check on the welfare of a person. when they got here, they found an adult male who was pronounced dead on the scene. tay ear not saying how that person was killed only that the body had trauma. sources tell news4 that the victim actually is a resident of this neighborhood but not of this particular house. and police have not release ld any information about names of the victim or who lives in this house. they did tow a car away from the scene earlier today, and some distraught relatives of the victim appeared here briefly while the investigation was going on. as we said, this is still an

is a random crime. they are looking to develop a suspect or suspects in this case. we're live in upper marlboro, derrick ward, news4. happening today, the former wootton high school student charged in a double fatal crash will be sentenced. samuel ellis is facing more than 30 years in prison for the deaths of two of his friend, alex murk and kelvin lee. prosecutors say he was speeding and driving drunk when he lost control and crashed his car after a house party in june of 2015. and today's students of clarksburg high school returned to classes with heavy hearts. three of their classmates died in a terrible crash on burnt hill road in damascus on tuesday night. parents say the friend were coming home from a pregraduation party. montgomery county police say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. the driver, 17-year-old jacob dennis, was going too fast down a country

today thousands are expected to honor the life and legacy of boxing great muhammad ali. more on two days of funeral services set in ali's hometown. >> reporter: inside or outside the ring, muhammad ali captured the attention of millions around the globe. fans and admirers stood in long lines to get tickets to his memorial service. >> i think it's a real testament to the power of muhammad ali and his message and all he stood for. >> reporter: this morning's muslim funeral prayer service held at the site of ali's last fight in louisville. tomorrow a slow procession will drive through neighborhoods and on streets that played key roles in ali's life. the funeral itself is being held inside a 22,000-seat basketball arena. pal bearers include lennox lewis and will smith, who portrayed the boxing great in the

a task force charged with those windows said they will not live in the cathedral the way they have in the past. the first meeting is sunday, july 14th, at 7:00 p.m. an increasing offense against isis. the iraqi military is in the city of fallujah saying air strikes on key targets are helping it recapture the city from the terror group. you're looking at new video from the iraqi ts showing those air strikes. although this video has not been independently verified by nbc news. the iraqi military says the strikes caused heavy losses for isis, both fighters and supplies. isis struck iraq this morning twice. we're getting new number s on te death toll from two suicide bombings the group is claiming responsibility for. one targeted a busy street in baghdad, 19 civilians were killed, 46 others hurt. the other bombing was just outside baghdad at a military checkpoint.

[ sirens ] >> reporter: they have their two suspects in sus custody. what they're trying to work out is how exactly they made their way from their home in the west bank inside israel. security barriers israel has in place to check that kind of transit. their hometown in the southern west bank outside hebron has been completely closed off. 83,000 travel permits issued by israel to palestinians living in the west bank in gaza giving them special permission in this holy month of ramadan to visit the holy city of jerusalem, all of those permits have now been revoked. as far as israel's security fos

director of this big event, the 19th annual one, right? >> yeah. thanks for having me. >> thanks for coming. how did it get started? how did you come up with the idea? >> i was a local bike racer and thought it would be fun to have my a race in my backyard as opposed to traveling to go to one. that's how it started. 19 years later, two days, multiple events, cycling for nybody. >> how did the air force get involved? >> they approached me a number of years ago to help them create an event and since then we've sort of transitioned over to the air force association now, and also using their wounded airmen program as our beneficiary. >> and do you have to have been in the air force or currently in the air force to participate? >> no. it's really for cycling enthusiasts. we offer amateur races for some of the amateur riders. we have the top pros coming in from around the country. and we have a cycling ride challenge for cyclists of all abilities on sunday morning. >> these pros come from everywhere, you say? >> all over the world.

right now there's a wildfire threatening a town. hundreds have evacuated. yarnell, arizona. it's the same place where 19 firefighters died in a massive wildfire a few years ago. at this hour, more an 100 firefighters are trying to put this new wildfire out. you're looking at new video we got into our newsroom today. the weather, though, is cooler. the temperatures there, high humidity could be i guess a good thing in helping the firefighters. the damp air helps out. >> absolutely. anytime it can be a little cooler, always a good thing. what they struggle

reagan national and airports around the country have the tsa under the microscope. the news4 i-team has learned a house subcommittee plans to release a new bill that would increase tsa funding by $163 million last year. last month the senate committee unanimously approved the bill, boosting tsa funding by more than $200 million. some of the money will be used to hire additional officers for airport checkpoints. metro is considering bus service that would connect national harbor and alexandria. the route would operate from the huntington and king street metrostations to the austin hill park and ride. mgn casino and national harbor. buses would run seven days a week. if the metro board approves the plan today, the pilot program will begin in october. we're almost a full workweek into metro's safe track program. there haven't been any major incidents on the rails but more of you are driving to work and we're seeing the impact on traf

wrong house. the police department says one of the officers shot the homeowner when he didn't obey officers' commands to drop his gun. >> then he came outside, his weapon was raised, the officers gave him verbal commands, he did not comply with them and an officer wound up firing a round at him. >> police eventually found the correct house, but no one shot off a gun. the officer who shot the wrong homeowner has been placed on administrative leave. >> reporter: good morning. you might have noticed there's an election in the district next tuesday. early voting is already under way for the local races and democratic presidential primary. but a new dc auditors report sharply criticizes the board of elections for having too many errors on the voting rolls, including 33 dead people found in a small random check. >> there are a lot of duplications, a lot of folks who are deceased and should be removed from the rolls. >> reporter: the 19-page

jo a woman is facing child neglect charges this morning after this scary incident. watch this. take a look. there you see the toddler running around the pool in florida. the toddler is just 3 years old and she falls into the water. she was flailing for a minute and a half before her cousin saw her and pulled her out. then an 18-year-old woman at the pool saved the girl's life. >> i, like feeling like i hemmed save a life. >> just incredible. the 18-year-old girl gave the little baby cpr until medics arrived. police charged the little girl's aunt with child neglect. >> can happen so fast. >> very quickly. >> they're moving so quickly and they don't know how dangerous the water is. especially if they see a toy or something. >> and a minute and a half is a long time in the water like that. >> indeed. she's got a littleu

new to everybody who comes, you know, to the area in national harbor to gaylord national. we started a summer fest activity. this year's theme is pirates on the potomac. we have a lot of fun pirate things down your end. >> i can see. >> a treasure chest. >> booty. >> lots of booty. we have every kid that comes will get like a bandanna when they're visit us and staying overnight and the eye patch to be like a pirate. we have a morning breakfast experience that's absolutely phenomenal. you can actually interact with pirates. they're going to be doing games with you, learning how to talk like a pirate. there's a lot of different fun things. scavenger hunts and more. >> fantastic. you're going to be cooking up at the sports bar and grill? >> this is offered at pastime sports bar. we have three different burgers we're showcasing through the entire summer. today here we've put the other two together here but we're going to cook the sea treasure. >> that's what's called? sea treasure? >> yes. >>
