terrorism. at least 20 dead, dozens more injured. he they say the gunman was well organized and prepared and opened fire with an assault style rifle as well as a hand gun. it started at 2:00 this morning at the pulse night club when he stormed the club, exchanged gunfire with an officer and took dozens of hostages. it came to an end three hours later when s.w.a.t. went in, there was a shoot-out and the gun man tidied. nine officers involved, one hurt but saved by a helmet. we're hearing horrible stories from witnesses who were there. >> he was on the ground, shot in the back. and when i walked by him, i didn't know if he was tdead or alive and i heard him monan. >> we'll have the latest throughout the newscast. and we are hearing that police plan to brief us on the whole situation out of orlando in about half an hour.

the force of the accident actually knocked the runaway driver's license plate right off his car. and that is how police were able to track him down and arrest him. ♪ it was a special tribute saturday at the national fallen firefighters memorial park. friends and family of the fallen firefighters came to the park in frederick county for a new dedication. they honored 250 firefighters who died in the line of duty before that memorial was actually built in 1981. the names of each of them are etched into a brick at a special section of the park now. prepare for some delays in and around arlington this morning. the air force association is hosting its annual cycling challenge ride. events have been under way for a couple hours now. they started at 7:00. here is a look at the race route. this means areas around the pentagon, crystal city and air force memorial will be closed off to traffic for another 50

a federal judge tossed out a firearm charge for eight people who occupied a wildlife rev funk in oregon earlier this yeek. according to the local newspaper there, the defense lawyer says prison time for the men is now less likely if they are convicted of the remaining charges. ammon bundy led the takeover of the wildlife refuge january 2 and it lasted six weeks. there were scary moments for a worker on a scissors lift in crystal city. he got stuck 30 feet in the air outside of a building on south clark street. arlington county firefighters rescued him with a ladder truck. luckily he was not injured. six people went to the hospital after a serious crash in friendship, maryland. according to wtop, there were many cars involved and three people were trapped at one point. four of the victims have very serious in

the fine for violations is 250 ck stafford county schools deciding to change their cellphone policies. at the started using them for school purposes and the adm administration has asked the school word to make the policy permanent, but apparently teachers have been complaining. no word on when a decision could come down on the policy. time is 9:33. former loudoun county paramedic will spend the next three years behind bars for having inappropriate contact with minors. 32-year-old timothy ward was a supervisor with the sterling and hamilton rescue squads. he admitted to having a ex-is all relationship with one minor and sending inappropriate texts to another. he must register as sex offender once he serves his time. police in nebraska are searching for an inmate on the run while another is back in custody. take a look at your screen. the man on the right side of your screen is 52-year-old tim clausen, he's been on the run since friday. police captured the man off the

approximately 20 people are dead. new information continues to trickle into the newsroom on this breaking story we're following out of orlando, florida. we're taking a live look right above the pulse night club in orlando. the scene of a amorhorrific att that claimed the lives of approximately 20 and wounded dozens of others. 42 others are believed to be in area hospitals. you can see that there is a big police presence on the ground. it's a very active scene. we just learned that an explosive, a blast, a device set off by police earlier, they're telling us that they did that to distract the shooter.
