monday after what was an historic shooting here in orlando. in the day ahead there is at least one large community vigil planned for the evening tonight, but through the day we hope to get more answers from law enforcement about their investigation and what they have been able to uncover about the real motive behind the shooting incident that left 50 dead, another 50 plus people injured in hospitals across orlando. we did stop last night at a few places around town where people were gather. some of the gay night clubs still open for business last night. a lot of the patrons saying that they felt the need to be around other people. they wanted to be together. this is a community that of course is quite sad today, there have been gatherings where people are hugging and crying together, at the same time there isn't effort effort i think to show resilience, to say despite what happened here in the early morning hours of sunday,this community still wants to show that it is strong, orlando strong is a hash tag trending on social media. so this community is trying to show that as they move forw

they expect that there will be additional vigils and gatherings throughout the week to try to get more information about the victims. there have been a few locations set up for families to get that information and for them to gather. but this is going to be several days more of sadness and pain for the orlando community and the gay community in particular here. but the resounds message is that they to intend to bounce back. we will be here throughout the day for nbc 4. i'm aaron gilchrist in orlando. and david culver from the live desk this morning, whereoff night we have been monitoring the city of orlando website. it's there that they have been updating the names of the 50 killed. at this hour officials have identified 21 of the victims, that is 11 more than we knew last night. they range in age from 20

welcome back. new developments on that deadly orlando club shooting. 21 of the 50 victims have now been identified. we've also learned a little more about gunman omar mateen. his ex-co-workers say he was racist, belligerent and toxic. mateen was killed by a sw.w.a.t team. aaron gilchrist will join us with more later. the shooting is having ripple effects in the race for the white house. today both donald trump and hillary clinton are changing the focus of their speeches in reaction. edward lawrence is following this for us from capitol hill. edward, so the candidates are taking different proposapproach the reaction. >> reporter: both a

clinton tweeted out that her thoughts and prayers are with folks who are affected by this horrible terrorist attack. she went on to say that we need to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists and other violent criminals. donald trump started by offering his condolences saying he's praying for all the victims and their families. and then he caused a social media storm taking credit for his radical islam claims calling to be more tougher and vigilant. this will change their speeches as you said for later on today. >> and how is bernie sanders reacting? >> reporter: bernie sanders spoke to reporters in vermont. he said that we need to destroy isis. he said those comments because the shooter pledged apparently allegiance to isis through 5911 call right before the act happened. bernie sanders went on to say that we need to close ghun control loopholes. >> edward lawrence live on capitol hillor

himself. 17 others were injured. right now prince william county police need to find this man, take a look, this is emerson duron, last seen saturday morning at a sheetz on prince william parkway. he was carrying a black backpack with a pink and red pattern. we know applies are investigating a deadly shooting this one in southeast. just after midnight, officers responded to report of gunshots on f street. when they arrived, they found 23-year-old antonio leach was shot. he died at the hospital. police are now offering a $25,000 reward for information on a suspect. three people were seriously hurt after a chain reaction crash in montgomery county. it happened on lockwood drive in the white oak area yesterday. a driver lost control of his truck, hit two people and several cars. one of those cars ended up hitting other cars. the truck ended up on its side and f

driver. two pedestrians and the driver are in the hospital now with serious injuries. take a look at this fire in manassas. it happened at an apartment building around 11:00 p.m. last night. we know two people did go to the hospital. 40 people had to leave their homes because of all the damage. today metro will be the subject of a multiagency meeting in washington. washington council of governments will bring together more than 100 businesses to figure out how to restore metrorail's reputation and reliability. representatives from other transit agencies will also be at the meeting. metro will also be the sut of a prince george's county council meeting today. general manager paul wiedefeld will provide the council with a briefing on transportation issues. metro's second surge of the safetrack program will have a big impact on prince george's county. surge two will shut down the blue, orange and silver lines between eastern

we're following the latest developments in the orlando club shooting. coming up, we'll learn more about what happened inside as authorities begin to realize just how many people were killed. we also have crews in orlando with a look at how the community is trying to bounce back. we're starting to hear some of the stories of exactly what happened inside the club when the shooting began. the mother of one of the shooting victims described the text exchange she had with her son and what would be their final conversation. >> he texted me at 2:06 and said mommy, i love you. in the club, they're shooting. that was at 2:06. trapped in the bathroom downtown. please call police.

after a show. grimmie was a former contestant of "the voice." she finished third on team adam. the vigil will be tonight in her hometown in new jersey. "news 4 your health," teens who use ecigarettes are much more likely to smoke cigarettes as a young adult. that is according to a study from the university of southern california. they followed a group of 11 and 12th graders for more than a year. students who reported vaping were more than six times more likely to have begun smoking sdret cigarettes by the age of 18. experts say more research is needed. oh, rmy gosh. people are getting shot, dude. >> i don't know where my son is. no one can tell me where my son is, if he's been shot, if he's dead. no one knows. >> it's being called a hate crime. domestic terror.
