i still don't know how that all came about. incident number one, around 11:50, a bullet goes through the window of a u.s. park police building in anacostia. it appears to have come from a nearby metro parking garage. park police spring into action. >> all the officers here on the scene responded as if we had someone shooting at the building. >> reporter: no shooter found there. a few minutes later, incident number two. a running gunfight between two young men on stanton road. one juvenile wounded in the leg. but look at all the bullets that were fired. we're lucky no one else was hurt. on the case today police chief cathy lanier. >> initially, we thought they may be connected. now we don't think they are. there's a little bit of difference in time and a little bit too far of a distance to be associated with here.

this tragic discovery today. the fbi now asking for patience as they try to piece together everything in that orlando might club massacre. investigators say they're reconstructing the movements of omar mateen in the days leading up to the shooting. that includes going over his cell phone calls. they say there's nothing to suggest mateen was contemplating another target and they didn't know of him patronizing other gay clubs in the orlando area. the main focus continues to be on mateen's wife and what she knew. noor salman told the fbi that mateen said he was going to visit friends before the shooting, but she feared she was going to attack the club and tried to desuede him. she did not warn anyone or call police after he left. the u.s. attorney in florida says he's looking into whether to charge her. we're learning more about the victims of that deadly

mount vernon. investigators are stilling looking for the heroic rescuers who helped upright the overturned shuttle bus. julie carey is live from the scene. jules? >> reporter: well, the crash scene just about a half mile that way between here and mount vernon. in just a moment, i'll show you the exact path that tour bus took after it collided with a passenger car, overturned, and slid off the roadway. the chinese embassy confirmed the person who died on that bus was a chinese citizen as were the two other passengers who are still in critical condition. as for the park police, they're still hoping those good samaritans who righted the bus will step forward. fresh skid marks, torn sod, pieces of metal, that's what's left of the deadly collision here yesterday between a tourist shuttle bus a

the recall notice, they expected getting a refund from the manufacturer would be easy. not so much. carol will never forget a recent care. >> there was no shoulder and i just had to drift off with no no power steering or nothing. the car just quit on me. >> reporter: the engine in her 2012 hyundai sonata failed. carol had the car towed to a dealership and was told the engine would need to be replaced. a cost of $6,000 because it was no longer under warranty. >> i thought we'll have the car towed home. paid a friend $3900 for it and it was running again. >> reporter: that was in july. less than two months later, a recall notice. her engine, the very one that she just paid $4,000 to replace

according to the recall notice, metal debris may have been generated from factory machining operations. this could cause possible engine failure. >> i knew that was coming. it was brewing. i was sure. they obviously had more problems with this or there wouldn't be a recall. >> reporter: when she asked hyundai for a recall for the engine, she was denied. it can only reimburse transactions made with a legitimate business or repair facility and carol's mechanic was unable to provide documents such as a business license. >> had i known, i would have taken it to a dealer, but i had to do what was financially best for me. >> reporter: we contacted hyundai. within a few days, they agreed to refund carol the full amount of the repair. you're glad that you called us? >> this was a blessing. i felt like god was looking out for us and

was horrifically snatched off the edge of a lagoon by an alligator. carrie sanders is in lake buena vista. >> reporter: it is such a heartbreaking day. a family from nebraska here on vacation. the father and his 2-year-old son, according to the sheriff, about 12 inches from the shore into the water. not swimming, just kicking around in some shallow water where out of nowhere to them an alligator lunged and snatched the 2-year-old. the father attempted to pull the boy to safety. he got scratched up. the mother and the sister were a little bit of a distance away. hysterical. then the gator retreated with the young boy into the dark water and disappeared. for almost 16 hours, the authorities were out on the water in

airboats with divers in the water using under water sonar hoping against hope they would be able to find this little boy alive. they did not. they removed five alligators from the lake today. there are no signs that warn tourists here -- remember, this is a family from nebraska. there's no gators there. there were no signs telling them there were gators in the water there. it's a common expression in florida that there's gators in every lake. the authorities do point out since 1948 only 23 people have been killed by alligators. now 24. at the end of the day, this is a very unusual circumstance, but it is so tragic. a little boy, a family on vacation, and really no

of the five alligators that they pulled out, they're not sure whether one of those five alligators was the one responsible. they're going to wait for the medical examiner to determine the cause of death, but they think it is going to be death by drowning by an alligator. >> it is important for them to find the alligator because they don't want it to attack again. is that correct? >> reporter: absolutely. this was an alligator that was fed and habituated to come too close to people. alligators, unlike crocodiles, generally stay away from people. you have such a small little boy there. it's not as if that could keep the alligator away. i'm surprised the alligator came close because the father was there. the experts have told us there is a possibility this is what they call a sick alligator. it is just not acting like a regular

nightclub and she tried to talk him out of carrying out any attack there of shooting people. he left. she feared that's where he was going, but according to authorities, she didn't warn anyone. she didn't call the police. she didn't tell anyone about it. >> did anyone else in the family know about this other than the wife? >> not that we've heard. >> have investigators learned anything more about the gunman himself, pete? >> yes. more about sort of what he was doing during the shooting. we know during the 911 call he talked about isis. we now learned that he called a reporter for a local television station to say he was doing it in the name of isis. that day he posted material to his facebook page to say this was to give people a better taste of isis. the fbi says they've never been able to substantiate claims that omar mateen visited

clubs in orlando. some witnesses who were there thought he was talking to other people or didn't think it was conceivable that one person could carry out all that carnage, but the fbi says today they're confident that he was the only one that was there. looking at his electronic media and his cell phones, they don't find anything in it to indicate he was considering any other target other than pulse nightclub. >> you mentioned social media and him being on gay dating apps. any more on that front? >> the fbi is looking that. people have come forward to say i've got an app here and he contacted me. it was a case of mistaken identity. many, many people claimed they saw him in that nightclub before the shooting, sometimes months before the shng

it happened just after 11:00 last night. police tell us several people called 911 to report men arguing. the gunshots rang out shortly thereafter. no injuries were reported and police only have a vague description of the shooter. more fallout tonight from this cell phone video showing a baltimore school police officer violently slapping and kicking a student. now the head of schools police has resigned. school officials say chief marshall goodwin resigned last week. he's led the force since 2007. goodwin was put on leave back in march when this video surfaced. school officials say goodwin resigned to pursue other interests. supreme court nominee merrick garland has spent much of the past couple months meeting with lawmakers on the hill. judge garland delivered the commencement address for fifth graders.

orlando, florida today. crews there have found the body of a toddler who was snatched off a beach in disney world by an alligator. we just got a picture of 2-year-old lane graves. investigators say he was dragged into the water by an alligator about 9:00 last night on the edge of a lagoon at the grand floridian resort. fishing and wildlife officials say they will keep looking until they find the alligator responsible. >> there's a good chance we already have the alligator because we focused our efforts in that area where this incident occurred. if we can't get a certain match, we're going to continue to go out and look for alligators to make sure we have done everything we can to take that alligator out. >> investigators believe the alligator drowned the little boy. disney has closed all the beaches there, marinas and ferries as well. we'll have a
