laptop computer, and digital camera indicates he downloaded a significant amount of terrorist material, but no signs of plans for any other attack. >> there's nothing to suggest there was any other target other than the pulse nightclub. >> reporter: investigators are focusing on what, if any role, mateen wife, noor salman, may have played in the attack. >> law enforcement is talking to everyone associated with the shooter. >> reporter: as the search for answers continues here, so does the struggle for this community to somehow cope with the tragedy. tomorrow, president obama will join in that effort. >> he indicated that he would like to come visit and comfort and show support and unity with orlando and the victims. >> reporter: victims that include 30 survivors still in the hospital right now. 6 in critical condition.

today that show mateen was highly proficient shooting a .9 millimeter pistol and scored very high on a written test before obtaining his license. we have a look at the orlando gunman that goes beyond a still photograph. omar mateen unwittingly appeared in a documentary about the bp oil spill. he worked as a security guard for several months during the cleanup process in pensacola, florida, back in 2010. a filmmaker drove up to the scene using undercover cameras. >> do you have a badge? >> i'm wondering what's going on here. >> it's for bp, like the oil spill. >> is there any way i with talk to any of the people up there working? >> there's people out here, but they're scattered all over the place. no gives a [ ble]

in anacostia. two lunchtime shooting incidents near the metro here. around 11:50 this morning a bullet goes through the window of a u.s. park police building in anacostia. there were cops working inside when it happened. >> immediately they put out a warning to everybody in the office that potentially we had a shot fired at the building here, so all the officers here on the scene responded as if we had somebody shooting at the building. >> reporter: it appears the shot came from the nearby metro parking garage. now they searched and searched and searched, but no shooter was found. then a few minutes later a running gunfight between two young men on stanton road. one juvenile wounded. but it could have been far worse. let me give you some idea of the scope of this scene. down there is stanton road. we counted six shell casings there. move further down and you can look a

ten shell casings at that scene. as you come up the road, look on the seat of that motorcycle. there's a gun. there's a cell phone and a cell phone charger. go a little further up and you can see a tennis shoe, a sneaker, that belongs to the victim. though many of the homes around here are almost brand new, some of the people who live here say they don't feel safe. >> it's just getting bader and bader in d.c. they need to figure out a way to lower the crime. >> i don't like this violence. i can't wait to get out of this neighborhood. i can't wait to get out of d.c. >> reporter: now at one point, police thought these two shooting incidents may be related, now they say they don't think that's the case, but the investigation continues on. we have been following

an update now on the developing story we've been following. investigators found the body of a toddler who was snatched by an alligator at a walt disney resort. that discovery led to a search for the boy who was attacked in very shallow water. >> reporter: a heartbreaking update from the orange county sheriff's office this afternoon letting us know they found the body of missing 2-year-old lane graves. he was found in murky water, not far away from where he was in

it's a tragic ending to what was supposed to be a family, fun-filled vacation. it's the heartbreaking news the family waited all day to hear. >> at about 1:45 today, members of the orange county sheriff's office dive team located what is believed to be the remains of the deceased, the 2-year-old. >> reporter: for more than 15 hours, dive teams along with rescue crews searched the lake by boat and air. the frantic father's call to 911, telling operators he was son was attacked while wading in a foot of water at the seven seas lagoon. >> there's no question in my mind that the child was drowned by an alligator. >> reporter: the graves family was on vacation staying at the resort property. overnight and into the day, teams searched the lake until around n

was changed from a rescue to a recovery. >> he was within the immediate area where he was last sceeen. >> reporter: they'll continue to hunt for the alligator. >> we'll get the certain alligator involved and remove it. >> reporter: crews pulled five gators from that pond earlier this afternoon. investigators are going to check each of their dna to find out which gator pulled that child into the water. if it is not any of those gators, the sheriff's office and crews will continue looking until they find the right one. news4. i'm pat lawson. developing news here at

desk. the wreckage from egyptair flight 804 has been found. all 66 people on board were killed. they were expected the plane's black boxes to stop emitting their located signals on the 24th of this month. that's just nine days from now. right now officials are drawing maps of the area to help them recover the plane's wreckage. it's still unclear what caused the plane to go down, but radar indicates it did a complete circle before disappearing. fire and smoke alarms did go off inside that plane. metro says it is ahead of schedule on its first safetrack surge. around the clock single tracking between east falls church and boston will be ending thursday night. as of late monday, 96% of that planned work completed.

a lot of areas. the second surge starts saturday. it's going to run for 16 days. that means a shut down from eastern market to minnesota avenue and benning road. tonight a rare look inside the capitol crossing project here in d.c. it is recreating several city blocks literally out of thin air. capitol crossing hit a new milestone today. as adam tuss shows us, it might also end up improving the commute. >> reporter: step down three stories to the base of the capitol crossing project and it becomes clear. this is not a normal construction project. >> this is the first large tunnel in an urban area post 9/11. >> reporter: in other words, this whole thing is being built tough and strong. add to the fact that city blocks in the heart of the district are being recreated and buildings will go on

mass av now under construction. traffic below continues to navigate the changing course of the tunnel itself. the construction down here at the capitol crossing project is really intense. these beams are actually being shipped in from north carolina and south carolina because they have to be made to a certain specifici specificity. all of this is happening as traffic goes by. about 60,000 cars in each direction coming through this project. do you expect traffic flow to get better when this project is done? >> actually, that's good point. both on the street grid as well as on the highway. >> reporter: new improved entrances to 395 should help cars. a city street grid should help pedestrians and cyclists. there is still a speed camera in the tunnel itself. all this work is demanding the attention of people who live and work nearby. >> it is a feat of

a crash on the gw parkway. tonight we're hearing the first calls from first responders who arrived on the scene to help. more republican leaders distancing themselves from donald trump. also a new legal fight over the purple line as some people question the environmental impact of that multibillion dollar project. those stories and more coming up at 6:30, but let's check in with doug to see when the rain is coming. >> we've got the possibility of some rain overnight tonight, but a much better chance tomorrow night and into early on friday. maybe even some strong storms with that too. let's talk first off about what's happening today. now dealing with some

nice conditions. the clouds out there. most of the rain has now dissipated. 82 degrees out the airport. winds out of the south at 13 miles an hour under mostly cloudy skies. a really nice evening. 81 in leesburg. 79 in manassas and warrenton. no rain to talk about now. we had some showers earlier. they are all now gone. most of us didn't even see any rain at all today. i know i did a little bit earlier towards the montgomery county mall. 72 degrees tomorrow morning. can't rule out a shower. temperatures into the low 80s. tomorrow night is going to be different. we saw some showers and some clearing. now we're looking at something else going on here. notice this line making its way through pennsylvania and west virginia. this is one line that could refocus some shower activity overnight on us.

dispatch calls sent emergency vehicles racing to the crash near mount vernon. today fresh skid marks, torn sod, pieces of metal, and bright spray paint marked the spot where a shuttle bus full of chinese tourists overturned after a head-on crash with a car. >> we have one vehicle, a bus, that has flipped over. it is currently on its wheels. we have a total of four patients on the ground with a possible of 26. >> reporter: this man who lives near the crash scene got a tweet from his wife that a bus had overturned nearby. >> she saw a white chauffeur van that had been -- it was upright. they said it rolled and had been involved with another car, but we didn't see anything like that. >> reporter: a group of

passers-by had somehow uprighted the shuttle bus. the victim that was killed and those seriously injured were trapped beneath. >> it's not uncommon to see people helping with a bicyclist crash, but that's great. >> reporter: there were 17 tourists on board. two still in critical condition. last night a representative from the chinese embassy visited victims at the fairfax hospital. they're helping them connect with their families back home. the bus driver was not injured. in addition to those 17 passengers on the bus there were 2 people in the car. we have not heard anything about their car. back to you now. president obama will be traveling to orlando tomorrow to pay respects to the 49 victims of the worst mass shooting in u.s. history. right now, the fbi is still gathering evidence at the pulse

shots were fired as a scene of utter horror played out for hours. investigators are also trying to reconstruct the killer's activities in the time leading up to the attack. authorities are also trying to figure out what role his wife may have played in that plot. nbc news has learned the security company that employed the gunman concluded that inflammatory comments he made about al qaeda in 2013 were so serious it was enough to get him transferred to a position where he would not carry a firearm. in the meantime, the killer's father is placing blame on isis and the nightclub's owner. >> it's easy for them to make money, but they don't want to spend. maybe they had some kind of sloppy security. >> it's not clear where

gunman's wife and child are right now. a new bloomberg poll shows hillary clinton leading donald trump among likely voters by 12 percentage points. those results aren't much closer on a terror related question. voters were asked if hillary clinton or donald trump would be better at fighting terrorist threats at home and abroad. 50% responded trump would be better. 45% responded clinton. trump's call for banning muslims from the u.s., 51% said it bothers them a lot. 34% says it doesn't bother them at all. larry hogan got his first look at the

the alexandria police department can benefit from more patrols and more traffic officers. that's the recommendation after an independent review of the department. the city asked for the study as it plans for a long-term police staffing. and it will use the findings for its future budget planning. the police in herndon, virginia, are looking for a man who was taking photographs of a child at a library. officials say the man's name is steven michael edwards. they say he's a registered sex offender, but that he failed to update his information since he moved to herndon. he got into a fight at the library over the weekend with the child's father. the man told investigators he saw edwards take cell phone photographs of his daughter. they argued. the father grabbed edward's cell phone before

police say edwards did not commit a crime, but they're hoping information on his cell phone will help them to track him down. opponents of a new at&t data center to be built in western loudoun county are celebrating a victory. the company is withdrawing its plans to build that facility just west of lovitzville. the loudoun county board of supervisors will end those plans next week. a federal court heard arguments about maryland's purple line today. an organization called friends of the capitol crescent trail are suing to stop the project. they have environmental concerns. it would be a 16-mile line that would connect prince george's and montgomery counties. the transportation secretary announced a $874 million loan to
