removed. campaign spokeswoman hope hicks said mr. trump has stated his position on this. he looks forward to what he thinks will be a productive meeting. the day and night filibuster came as republican senator pat toomey was in negotiations on his own gun control bill with michael bloomberg's group mayors against illegal guns and as california senator dianne feinstein was with a gun measure with jon cornyn. both discussions were on bills voted down last year. the most recent bill barring those on terror watch lists failed 54-45 in december. meanwhile, the homeland security committee was asking it to turn over files on omar mateen. in a letter released yesterday, the committee asked the fbi to provide records related to two previously closed investigations concerning mateen and that comes as the same committee sent

>> reporter: betty, good morning to you. behind me, can you still see the fbi processing this crime scene and they say it could still take quite more time before they are complete. we are learning some new details, including that the night of the siege, the shooter called a local tv station, a producer picked up the phone and the shooter said i am the shooter and pledge allegiance to isis. we are also learning that the shooter claims to have explosives on him and that he was going to be placing hostages in each corner of the building with those explosives strapped to them. so this is the information that local officers had as they were deciding whether or not to breach the building and go inside. we are since learned the fbi has not found any evidence that he actually had splos on him that night. president obama is set to visit here today. he'll be meeting with some of the families of the victims, some of the survivors, as well as some of the first responders. sadly, these visits are becoming routine for this president who has also

charleston, carolina, and sandy hook and san bernardino. this will be a somber event but one the president has become used to. betty? >> unfortunately. blake, thank you so much for that. there is this story. the body of a 2-year-old boy dragged into a lake by an alligator near disney's grand floridian resort has been found. >> we recovered the remains of the 2-year-old from the water and that body has now been turned over to the orange county medical examiner's office for an autopsy. >> nbc sarah dallof joins us now from lake buena vista. what is the latest on this investigation, sarah? >> reporter: betty, a heartbreaking end to this story. around 2:30 yesterday, authorities announced that they had recovered the body of lane graves who was just 2 years old. the sheriff saying that his body was found intact. they believe the gator drowned

last seen. he had been wading in a pond into the water a foot into the water on disney property. an autopsy will be performed and disney will view the entire event including their signage which cautions against swimming but doesn't warn against the possible presence of alligators. the graves family was visiting disney from nebraska where a family friend were thanking people for their thoughts and their hope-filled prayers. >> such a tough story there. thank you so much, sarah. if you are up at this hour, chances are, coffee is involved. and you may welcome this news. the world health organization now says there is no conclusive evidence that coffee causes cancer despite concerns years ago and in fact, it might help prevent it but there are concerns about drinks that are too hot. >> reporter: for the millions of coffee drinkers this is comforting news. th

members since the orlando massacre. it swelled from 100 to 3500 by monday. police say at a new york gas station a man put a gas station in the trunk of his car when the vehicle suddenly burst into flames. the explosion knocked the driver out of the car, setting him on fire. he suffered third-degree burns but no life-threatening injuries, thankfully. newly released footage shows a scene here at seattle university. a man in 2014 walked in with a shotgun firing at students. as the shooter tried to reload, a student safety officer charged, pepper spraying the gunman. the student stripped away the man's gun as he fumbled for a knife. the hero was later honored for his actions. one student was killed in the attack and two others injured. prince william is making news and history by appearing on the cover of a gay magazine in the united kingdk and taking a against bullying and homophobia
