let's get to our breaking news. >> the judge in this case, barry williams, just minutes ago denied the defense motion to acquit the defendant in this case of all charges. that means the case continues. the judge said at this point in the trial he has to view the evidence in a light most favorable to prosecutors. but the judge said that it's a closer call when it comes to the charge of second degree depraved heart murder against van driver officer goodson. the defense argued there is no evidence that goodson gave freddie gray a rough ride in the police van. no witnesses, no skid marks, no evidence that goodson intended to injure freddie gray. but prosecutors argued that officer goodson's failure to seatbelt gray is enough to establish that he recklessl

risked gray's life and that they say constitutes second degree depraved heart murder. so at this point all seven charges will go forward. the defense will have to present its case and is just starting now, calling witnesses on the charges of second degree murder, manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct. and we are continuing to cover this trial and bring it to you live from baltimore. back to you in washington. >> thank you, chris. new developments now in the search for the missing egyptair plane. >> new this morning, the plane's black box has been found. officials say there are some signs of damage to the cockpit voice recorder, but the most important part, the memory unit has been extracted. a search vessel found the flight wreckage of ms-804 yesterday. the flight disappeared

radar last month, eventually crashing into the mediterranean sea with 66 people on board. barbara back over to you. >> strong to severe storms are in the forecast for some of us. let's get right to amelia. >> here's the latest. dry in the immediate area. as can you see as i widen the image, already tracking thunderstorms from pennsylvania and west virginia. as we head into the afternoon hours, especially the late afternoon hours, some scattered strong to severe storms are possible, especially in this area, including even parts of the district, as well as arlington and alexandria. we're going to be watching for the potential for some very heavy rainfalls and any storms that pop up could also contain hail. after the threat for severe storms starts to wind down, we track widespread heav

when that heavy rain moves in coming up in just a bit, pat. >> all right, amelia. service is back to normal now on metro but it was a messy morning on the rails, three big problems, including two on the red line, caused long delays. arcing insulators both led to single tracking for a while. there was also a switch problem at the braddock road station. all of the problems, metro says, have been resolved. >> this weekend it could be very disruptive for several lines with shutdowns. we look at how it could impact you. megan. >> reporter: right now we're getting an update from metro, as well as regional leaders about what's going to be getting under way this weekend, the second phase of metro safetrack program. we're tki

stations, a complete closure of those stations, no question about it. it is going to be disruptive and riders are going to have to plan ahead. phase two of metro's safe track program will be a bit different in the first round of repairs. instead of single tracking, there will be station closures. >> fortunately i'm very close in the area. but for people that are way out in maryland, it's a big disservice. but it's going to affect everyone. >> and it will. starting saturday the armory and potomac avenue stations will close and reopen july 3rd. riders should use the yellow line. expect delays on all orange and silver line stations in the system and buses, well, they will likely be very crowded. and people who use the two

washington app. just search safe tracks. maryland state police are working to determine what caused a crash that tied up traffic on the beltway this morning. all lanes are open after a tractor trailer and two cars collided. it happened near connecticut avenue on the outer loop. one person was injured. >> four days after the mass shooting in an orlando night club, president obama and vice president biden are en route to florida. the two are expected to meet with survivors and family members of those who died inside the pulse nightclub. 49 people died in the worst mass shooting in this country's history. the president and vice president left about an hour ago. we're going to have much more on what's sure to be an emotional reunion coming up first at 4. barbara? >> thanks, erika. and there will be an interfaith prayer service in arlington today

it will be at the rock spring congregational united church of christ on little falls road. the prayer service begins at 6:30 p.m. at 7:30 p.m., there will be a community iftar, which is the meal eaten after sundown on ramadan. >> we go now live to the dominion power substation. what are they doing out there, molette? >> well, good morning. the dye treatment went in about 45 minutes ago, but as you can see behind me, the water still looks the same. there's no pea colored water just yet. if it shows up, and it might not, but if it does, it might take between 24 to 48 hours to see it here in the water near this wildlife refuge that's very close by to reagan national airport. we were not allowed inside

responsible for the terror in orlando is intensifying. on facebook he asked the u.s. and russia to stop bombing the islamic state. on the morning of the massacre, he searched pulse orlando and shooting. in his final facebook post he wrote "in the next few days you will see attacks from the islamic state in the usa." the 20-year-old had five facebook accounts. >> we could learn as early as today whether a grand jury plans to charge mateen's wife in connection with the massacre. npr reports the grand jury has been meeting for several days. noor salman told the fbi she was with her husband when he bought the bullets and holster used in the shooting. she also confessed to driving him past pulse nightclub once before the mass car. salman told agents she pleaded with her husband not to carry the attack out but said she never alerted authorities to his plan. >> meanwhile, the attack is

it's a direct response to the deadly shootings in orlando. someone hacked a twitter account associated with isis, and then they did this -- they changed the images to a rainbow flag in a show of support for the lgbt community. one man said he started hacking twitter account years ago. he said he did this to honor those who died at the pulse nightclub. >> prince william will appear in the upcoming issue of the magazine "attitude," a gay magazine in the u.k. he sat down with the magazine before the orlando shooting. the magazine is available to download n o

to get here? >> the heavy rain will move/y,ñ between about 7 and 9 p.m. before the period, there could be some hit-and-miss winds, maybe a bit of hail, can't rule out an isolated tornado. but what everybody is going to be talking about, what everybody's going to be dealing with, very heavy rain moving in about 7 to 9 p.m. and overnight before winding down tomorrow morning. the weather service has issued a flash flood watch for just about everybody. this includes the entire d.c. metro area. it's going to begin at 5 p.m. today and run through 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. some areas will pick up over two inches of rainfall. thankfully we could use the rain but with that much rain falling in this amount of time, i think we'll definitely see water collecting on area roads. if you're out traveling late tonight, early tomorrow morning, heads up there. scattered storms

>> the time seems to have passed very quickly, but as i was reading about that time and remembering some of the things that were -- that people were saying about him, he was such a star. george michael, who has passed away, too, was our big star here in the sports department, and we understand that he actually cried when he told the story on television. so it was a real loss to this community. >> yes, yes. >> but you took that loss and moved on, even though a few years later you lost a second son. >> yes. >> how did you handle all that? >> well, we are -- the bias family, we are a family of faith. and it is our faith that has gotten us this far. you just don't wake up and gather up strength to go on after going through such tragedy. 42 months later after len's death, jay dies, i'm ready to throw in the towel. i'm saying, god, i'm trying to do my best to serve you and where is the treasure?

>> well, we've been warned. it's on its way. >> it's going to be very wet this evening. right now it's mainly dry out there as we move on into the afternoon hours. you're noticing more peaks of sun. that sun in combination with other factors could help to fuel potentially some scattered storms during the late afternoon and evening hours, something here at storm team 4 we' monitoring closely as we monitor throughout the afternoon. the national weather service also. dry across the immediate area. as i widen out the image, notice this line of impressive storms moving through pennsylvania, severe thunderstorm warnings associated with it. as this continues to move eastward, big question is does this help set off some afternoon showers and thunderstorms in our area and if it does, those storms could be strong to severe. main storms would be lots of lightning, very heavy rainfall,

hail. everybody, everybody is going to be dealing with very heavy rain during the late evening and overnight hours. 75 in washington, 81 in leesberg, a high today of 84. mainly dry, mix of clouds and sun, humid, 82. scattered storms around 4:00, especially west of town. heavy rain starts to move in around 7 p.m. west of town, moves into the district court by 9, 10 p.m. when i say heavy rain, it is going to be an absolute deluge. we're talking about 2 to maybe even 4 inches potentially in some spots. so you don't want to be on the roads late this evening. the rain will drop the humidity levels from uncomfortable to pleasant by tomorrow on into the weekend. as we look to tomorrow, 76, breezy, showers in the morning. father's day weekend spectacular, warm, low humidity and we warm back up next monday and tuesday, ladies. >> well, it's the tony award winning show playing right now here in

shoe factory. his father dies and he has to figure out how to save the shoe factory. it's a great story about love and acceptance. it has two incredible actor in leading roles. i play a person who doesn't see the point of trying to save the factory so i create a little opposition there. >> cyndi lauper with the voice and lyrics. are there any real memorable songs -- >> for you probably. >> people mistake thinking they've used her songs. like "girls want to have fun" is not in this. they're all original songs. they're great songs. they're moving songs, they're fun songs, they're dance songs. >> she based all the different songs on all different types of music. so there's

getting a refund from the manufacturer would be easy. not so much. >> there was nowhere for me to go. >> reporter: carol will never forget a recent scare. >> there was a shoulder and i had to drift off with no power steering, no nothing. the car just quit on me. >> reporter: the engine in her 2012 hyundai sonata with 6,300 miles on it failed. carol had the car towed to a dealership and was told the engine needed to be replaced at a cost of $6,000 because it was no longer under warranty. >> i said we'll just have the car towed home. >> but a mechanic friend of the family offered to replace the engine at a fraction of the cost. >> paid him $3,900 for it and it was running again. >> that was in july. less than two months later, look what arrived in the mail -- a recall notice. her engine, the very one that she just p

was recalled. according to the recall notice, metal debris may have been generated from factory machining operations. federal safety regulators say this could cause possible engine failure. >> i knew that was coming. it was brewing i was sure. and they obviously had more problems with this or there wouldn't be a recall. >> when she asked hyundai for a refund for the recalled engine, he was denied. according to hyundai's reimbursement policy, it can only reimburse transactions with legitimate or business facility and carol's mechanic was unable to provide the documentation. >> i had to do what was best for me. >> that's when carol contacted us and we contacted hyundai and within a few days they agreed to pay carol the full amount of the repair. so you're glad you called us? >>
