composite sketch created in 2007. julie carey joins us live outside police headquarters with details. >> reporter: well, we've learned 34-year-old justin wingate poe worked in a probation office. now he is in the arlington county jail charged with two counts of attempted abduction for stalking and attacking young women in articlington nearly a decade ago. it was his job to work with criminals. now he's the one behind bars tied to two attempted abductions of arlington women back in 2007. >> a female was walking down the street. he came up from behind and attempted to put a plastic bag over her face. >> reporter: poe emerged as a suspect in the 2007 cold cases as they investigated an incident last month on north edgeo

that's when a man got into a woman's house and attacked her while she was sleeping. dna from that incident was submitted to the state crime lab. it matched dna taken from one of the bags in 2007. there was also a latent fingerprint from one of the 2007 bags and this composite sketch created. investigators kept following leads that pointed to poe as a possible suspect. investigators were able to use that 2007 fingerprint from the bag to connect those cases to him. >> he was charged for the two incidents that occurred in 2007, but we anticipate he'll face additional charges for the 2016 case. >> reporter: now police want arlington women to take a good look at wingate poe's mug shot in case any others have had encounters with him back in 2007 or in the nine years since.

additional cases he is most likely the suspect in. >> reporter: now wingate poe has worked for fairfax county since 2004. most recently in the probation officer's adult intake center. as soon as they learned of these charges, he was placed on administrative leave. his linkedin page says he works with access link, which is a group that deals with at-risk teenagers. he lived if you need to get on the beltway tonight, expect some big delays in prince george's county. crews are closing down three lanes on the inner loop near route 450. you can see on the bridge deck what is obviously a pretty big pothole. crews plan to cover it with a steel plate. then

a hiker is in the hospital tonight after being airlifted off the billy goat trail in great falls. the woman apparently hurt her back while she was hiking and crews had to use a chopper to pull her out. the trail runs right along the potomac on the maryland side and it is known for being difficult and steep in certain places. the chopper rushed the woman straight to the hospital after making this rescue. some people spent the day calling their insurance companies and cleaning up after last night's storm. car after car pounded by huge hunks of hail. we'll have a live report at 6:30, but first here's doug in storm center 4. have we got the all clear for tonight and the weekend? >> i'm taking a couple of days off. >> i recommend it. >> it's saturday and sunday. let's take a look and show you what's happening out there. what was happeninghi

yesterday. wow, what an amazing storm. a lot of damage around the region. thousands without power. down to the south, it was hundreds of thousands without power. we're just looking at some beautiful numbers. temperatures right now in the low 80s. wait until you see the weekend forecast. we're tracking a couple of things, including some heat for early next week. just minutes ago, police identified the driver in a deadly crash. victoria hitchens was killed when her car smashed into a tree in coleville. police are trying to figure out if that crash could be connected to another one less than a mile away. >> reporter: this is the scene of the first accident eastbound on randolph road where a car left the road and landed in this front yard. the driver of the car was dead on the scene. moments later, another crash less than a half a me

wreckage the car was likely speeding. this neighbor was one of the first to get to the car where the driver was killed. she didn't want to go on camera. she described the scene as gruesome. >> speeding very quickly. before you know it, big loud crash and loud noise. the car was wrapped around the tree. it was unrecognizable. >> reporter: within one minute of the deadly crash, a second crash less than a mile away also on randolph road. no one was hurt in that crash, but three of the occupants fled the scene. the driver remained with the car. one passenger was caught by police later. while it is unclear if the two accidents were in any way related, police are questioning the two suspects from the second crash about that possibility. >> they want to see if there is some element, some relationship, between the vehicles and the

>> reporter: police found a small quantity of drugs in the second car. the driver and passenger of that car are facing possible drug charges. police still don't know what caused either crash or if they were related. news4. well, the second phase of metro's safetrack program starts tonight. it is likely to bring headaches for those who ride the rails and those who drive. for the next 16 days, two stations will be shut down. passengers who use the blue, orange, or silver lines are being urged to consider another way of getting around. metro is closing the moto mack avenue and stadium armory stations. some commuters in virginia will be effected as well because there won't be any blue line service between arlington cemetery and rosslyn. we're also likely to be impacted in some way. >> it's going to be some serious traffic,

at a time he couldn't afford to have these bad weeks. in polls in house and senate district start looking like the presidential, then you could see the revolt happen. i think we're going to know in the next week if a revolt could brew up. >> hillary clinton is launching a $20 million ad buy in some of the battleground states like virginia. is she trying to do what president obama did to mitt romney years ago by defining her opponent early on? >> whoever can get the jump on the other, usually wins. obama did it to romney. george w. bush did it to kerry in 08. obama did it to mccain. trump doesn't have any -- romney had allies of superpacs on the air trying to counter the ads on the air.

hail, high winds, and lightning. we're seeing some of the worst damage in loudoun county, specifically the town of middleburg. that's where david culver is live right now. >> reporter: chris and doreen, take a look at this. a lot of the streets here in middleburg lined with vehicles that look just like this one. you have the windshield shattered, the hood filled with dimples. this includes vehicles belonging to the middleburg police department. the chief told me four of his vehicles likely totalled. that's middleburg's police chief helping to sweep away the debris. >> mother nature can't be messed with. >> reporter: he walked us through the damage left behind. >> this is through the plastic coverings. look at the dent. >> reporter: his officers' cruisers crushed by hail. >> to break a windshield with a rock you throw the same velocity at someone's

fatal. >> reporter: he's just happy no one was seriously hurt. >> i'm not concerned. >> reporter: inside the local hardware store, the owner said he's getting lots of requests. >> the big sale today is plastic, glass, duct tape, hurricane tape. >> reporter: they're keeping their store open longer hours to help their neighbors, but it comes as they have their own repairs. these spots of sunlight, they didn't exist. they were created because of the hail. >> it was something that i have never seen. i don't know if i'd ever want to witness it again, but it was very scary. >> reporter: this skylight looks like a busted lightbulb. its jagged edges blowing in the breeze. restaurants closed because of a gas leak yesterday. now because of hail damage. i did hear from dominion virginia power. a spokesperson telling me they have about 1300

without power tonight. 1,000 of those are located here in loudoun county as well as neighboring fauquier counties. right here in middleburg they can be without power up until tomorrow. tonight there's a new fence with warning signs along at the beach at a disney resort where with a 2-year-old boy was killed by an alligator. crews worked to install that fence along the water. signs posted warned of alligators and snakes. the parents of the nebraska toddler who was killed tuesday night released a statement, saying they are devastated by their loss. there are about a million alligators in the state of florida. well, there's been a major heroin bust in frederick county. in fact, police say it is one of the ig biggest ever in that cou. darp

of pills, and 18 guns. it was the result of an investigation sparked by overdoses throughout frederick county. they were able to link the drugs from those overdoses to the same suppliers. >> this is not a street level investigation. this is a large-scale drug investigation where we actually dismantled a drug trafficking ring. >> reporter: where were all these drugs coming from? the dealers would get the drugs in new york and bring them back here to the frederick county area. there have been 153 overdoses in all of frederick county so far this year. 14 were fatal. >> if we don't start moving a little faster, then we are going to continue down this dark, ugly path. a jury heard closing arguments today in the murder trial of a loudoun county man. braulio castillo is accused of killing his wife michelle back in 2014. the two were in the mle

bitter divorce and custody battle. the defense says michelle took her own life, but today prosecutors told the jury she was happy and had just qualified for the boston marathon and had no reason to commit suicide. the prosecution also claimed that braulio castillo tried to smother his wife with a pillow as she slept, but stopped when he realized his young son was also in the bed. he told the boy to go to another room before allegedly committing the crime. there could be a verdict next week in the trial of a police officer charged in freddie gray's death. cesar goodson was the one driving the transport van and he's the only officer charged with murder. before the defense rest, goodson chose not to take the stand. >> reporter: closing arguments will be delivered here in court monday morning. the judge in this non-jury trial is expected to deliver his verdict early next week. the baltimore riots that

followed the death of freddie gray in april of 2015 were quieted in part when baltimore state's attorney announced indictments against six baltimore police officers. so far there have been no convictions. prosecutors in this trial of officer caesar goodson say the van driver gave gray a rough ride, causing his neck injury, and that he failed to seat belt gray in the wagon or call for medical help. >> i think the judge will find this officer not guilty on these charges. what the state is left with quite frankly is that there was some criminality in not seat belting freddie gray in. this is really what they're left with. >> reporter: bike patrol officer edward nero who was acquitted in may testified that gray was uncooperative. outside the courthouse, author johnson jr. has demonstrated alone every day for justice for freddie gray. >> i'm

one mother is saying she's considering changing jobs so she can drive her daughter everywhere she needs to go. these two mothers who did not want to be identified are sending a warning out to parents whose children ride metro. >> metro is not safe at all. i challenge somebody to tell me that it's safe. it's not. >> reporter: their two daughters were inside the l'enfant plaza metro when they were brutally beaten by a gang of teens they have never seen before. >> it was animal like. to see how they pound on my child like she don't mean anything. >> reporter: it around 6:00 p.m. rush hour on a crowded platform. the assault lasted for minutes and then one of the victims was robbed of her cell phone. >> she didn't understand why so many adults stood around and no one helped them. >> reporter: what happened next shocked her. >>

the fight. i said there was a video of the fight. she said, yeah, there were people filming. >> reporter: hours after the attack, the video appeared on instagram. the victims are now left with the physical and emotional pain. >> the swelling has gone down, but now the pain of the cracked bone is there and starting to bother her. she sleeps almost all day and is up all night. >> reporter: prince george's county police and d.c. police are familiar with the gang responsible for the attack. most of its members are from prince george's county. metro police say they are close to an arrest. these mothers say they moved their daughters to another school. >> her being at that school would mean she would have to take a train. she didn't feel safe on metro. >> reporter: one of the daughters suffered a contusion right near her eye that has impacted her eye socket. doctors are continuing to

metro police say because of their cameras they have been able to identify the suspects. again they do believe they are close to making an arrest. prince george's and d.c. police are calling this group a gang and say they are familiar with who they are. reporting live, i'm tracee wilkins. back to you all in the studio. several bear sightings by people who live and work in silver springs have put people on high alert. there it is after they spotted it running around thursday morning. montgomery county police say they have received several calls about the bear. one man said it look like a cub and weighs maybe 200 pounds. >> the bear didn't look that large to me, so i wasn't really afraid of it. i was more so watching it, making sure it was going away from me and not coming toward me so i could get out of the car. it's weird. i've never seen a bear before. it was kind of cool to see one live in front of me as they've been
