every angle of the severe weather and we begin with chief meteorologist doug kammerer with the up to the minute forecast. >> how are we looking, doug? >> the warnings continue, and they have been all across our region and the brand new severe thunderstorm warning and i told you about one two minutes ago and since then there's been a new one in washington county and frederick county, maryland. look at the split that's going on right here and another one down to the south around culpeper county and madison county. these storms all moving toward culpeper. culpeper county will get hit very hard here and this is the area right here that i'm really watching and there are three distinct storms and one here, one here and one back to the north. these two are separating and moving across the region here in toward portions of frederick county and montgomery county and this one right here with an extremely strong storm around the leesburg area just south and west of leesburg and

associated with it. middleburgh got hit with hail just the other day and we were talking about that and i'll go out and show you some of the hail that is in this area right now because we are watching that very closely and that hail core just to the west of middlebury once again. head's up if you're around the middleburgh area and some of the hail could be upward of three inches in diameter and that is baseball-sized hail. watch out in that region. if you live in that portion of loudoun county that's where you need to watch out and this is 15 and anywhere in here, let's show you where we're going to be going. down to the south, finally getting out of here and the severe weather around 2:00, 3:00, and now the severe thunderstorm warning from sales burry and no longer for southern maryland and calvert county still seeing some of the rain. this is all part of the wider system that continues to trek down to the south, but the first round moves through fast enough and we saw somesh

arrested. this happened early this morning on l street in fairmont heights. our tracee wilkins is live in the neighborhood and she talked to the boy's father. tracee? >> reporter: we're just off of sheriff road here and if you see behind me this is the sign prince george's county police asking folks in the community to give them a call if they see any suspicious activity after what happened to the young child. the father tells us that the 7-year-old was in the bed with his mother when this happened when that arm came through the window and tried to pull him out of the window. his screaming alerted his mother. at first she was thinking maybe this is someone we know until she saw that person run off the porch and around the porch. >> it's real sad until it hits home. you see it on tv all of the time, but you don't feel it until it hit home. i would like to see whoever is runnin

believe a west virginia man might have been planning a strike from the inside. jonathan winky was arrested on the job at the sprawling u.s. department of homeland security complex in northwest d.c. two weeks ago, charged with carryingacarrying a pistol. the feds are investigating whether winky was also plotting to attack. in a request to aid winky's home near martinsburg. the defense say there's probable cause that jonathan wienke. internal homeland security agents and u.s. secret service are investigating him, news 4 had learned. no answer at the door when we sought to find jonathan wienke for comment and the neighbors were shocked. >> the city officers came and they walked around the house and they never entered a

later the same day the fbi came and did the same thing. >> they were casing the outside? >> right. they knocked on the doors and walked around the house. >> reporter: in their court filings, he was randomly checked by security and found to be carrying a knife, two radio devices and incapacitating spray and infrared equipment and black handcuffs and that security seized some of those items and allowed wienke to enter the office and 90 minutes later they checked him again. they found him carrying a ..22 caliber revolver loaded with five hollow point bullets according to the filings. he was in close proximity to a meeting of senior dhs official, a meeting he was aware of. the federal prosecutor says he was released after his arrest pending further court proceedings. he's pl n

charge and no response from wienke or his attorney. >> a drunk driver will be spending the next four years in prison. a judge sensenced charles wig ins. he had a .19 blood alcohol. that's more than twice the legal limit. when he rear ended a pickup. it happened on the bw parkway in 2013. the impact of that collision sent the truck into the woods, caused his vehicle to flip and that killed his wife and his sister-in-law. a d.c. rabbi who admitted to taping women in a ritual bath is back in court today trying to get his sentence reduced. rabbi barry freundel was arrested in 2014 after a recording device was found at the kesher israel synagogue. he admitted taping about 50 women, but has attorney argues

it has been a wild afternoon. the lightning strikes alone, doug, my goodness. >> yeah. very seldom do you see lightning strikes over 1,000 every ten minutes. that's just amazing. 100 strikes a minute out there as we move on through. we even had a tornado warning earlier. let's show you what's happening now on the radar picture and you still notice the severe thunderstorm warning for fairfax county and northern prince william county and another warning back toward frederick and northern loudoun and another around montgomery county. earlier today, take a look at this. this is new video and this is live from chopper 4 right on top of the west friendship in maryland andis

howard county where we had a tornado warning earlier and just take a look at the trees right there. the sheer number of -- oh, wow. can we go off to the left there, chopper. i want to continue to see that there. notice every tree there is in the same direction. same direction moving up to the left going from right to left. if we can go back down to those trees, but look at that. >> any time you see a tree shear half way up, that could be the potential for tornado or it could be something stronger as far as the winds were concerned. we could see 70, 80 mile per hour winds as it made its way on through that region. so again, very, very intense winds and this is right around the i-70 in through portions of howard county as that storm system made its way on through. it could have been a downdraft and it helped to produce those extremely strong winds, but the national weather service will be going out there, i'm sure, to

here. another very strong storm with jefferson county and i want to move into this guy here because this is one that has had a let of lightning with it and it had rotation around with it and here's leesburg and middleburgh which got hit so hard the other day and the strongest moved just to the north and this moved right along 50 in toward fairfax county. reston, you're seeing heavy parts in that area. chantilly, more heavy rain around the culpeper area and this was a warned storm earlier. it now has weakened a little bit and still seeing heavy rain and a lot of lightning and you can see the boundary sagging down toward the south and we're not done yet even around the d.c. area. we have a couple of hours to go and we're fine. severe thunderstorm watch. a mixture of clouds and sun and rain cools after a high of 90 earlier and everybody has seen some rain and that's w

we have a slight risk of severe weather in most of the region and it has been in enhanced risk of severe weather. so we knew we had severe weather. we have another severe thunderstorm warning and i want to show you where this one is. this is up towards montgomery county and also in towards howard county as well as frederick county maryland, and i'll go back to the radar and that is this guy right here that we're continuing to watch and move on through the region and this guy is moving to the north and this one is moving to the south. watch out around damascus and this is right over clarksburg right now. we still have a lot more to go over the next couple of hours and of course, we're watching thursday and thursday, there could be severe weather, too, with the 80% chance of strong storms. much nicer friday and into saturday. >> the hits keep coming. we'll keep in close contact. the

hollywood actor. >> it was anton yelchin who was found pinned under his jeep grand cherokee who had just been recalled. >> consumer reporter susan hogan joins us in the studio with new information tonight. >> fiat chrysler automobiles back in april recalled three different models, totaling more than 1 million vehicles worldwide and this came after hundreds of complaints from drivers that their vehicles rolled away and many times causing serious injuries. michael brick said it happened to him. >> i got out of the car. i'm gassing the car and it starts rolling backward. >> reporter: he thinks he knows what went wrong. >> i've owned the car for six months and inthe gearshift is very quirky. >> reporter: hundreds of others were experiencing the same thing and complaining to fiat chrysler automobiles about their cars rolling away. by april 12th,

shows the car manufacturer knew of 700 complaints potentially related to this issue including 212 crashes, 308 claims of property damage and 41 injuries. april 19th, fiat chrysler automobiles issued a recall of $1.1 million vehicles worldwide. the problem according to the recall notice, drivers may inadvertently fail to achieve the parked position before exiting the vehicle. >> most people don't know they have a problem until they are rolling away from them. >> the real issue is in the design of the gearshifter. >> it's completely different from what most drivers are used to. >> michael couldn't agree more. >> when you say quirky, what do you mean? >> you can go from drive and you think you're going into drive and sometimes it's neutral. it stays in one place so you have to get used to the function of it.

county jury for the ashburn ceo convicted of killing his estranged wife. >> braulio castillo was found guilty of first-degree murder after a five-week trial. our bureau chief julie carey broke the news first. she is live with reaction to today's sentencing. jules? >> reporter: well, it's been more than two years since michelle castillo was killed and as you said this trial itself went more than five weeks. through it all, many of her friends have come to every court hearing to show their support and today they got the result they hoped for. >> reporter: prosecutors celebrating with some of the victim's closest friends after the jury recommended michelle castillo's killer, her husband, spend the rest of his life in prison. braulio castillo was found guilty of breaking into his estranged wife's home, suffocating her and hanging her body in a shower to make it look like a suicide. >> what he did to michelle and what he

well, this storm came in fast and furious. heavy rain racing into reston. some people are seeing hail. >> it's wicked out there and doug is tracking what we could see in the next few hours. this is not leaving fast though, doug. >> it's really not. we have to wait for the cold front to come to an end. right now still tracking strong to severe thunderstorms across our region. we saw the strongest of storms come through frederick and go through southern maryland and fairfax. now we're looking at a couple of severe storms around loudoun, montgomery county and frederick county and coming in to fredericksburg. i want to show you what's going on with these storms here. and a very strong storm right around the airport around dulles and ago onemo

campaign money is going. chris lawrence in the newsroom with details. >> hillary clinton is calling out all of the lawsuits that have been filed against donald trump and said he would lead the country right back into a recession. clinton focused her speech on the economy and blasted trump's proposal to deport 11 million immigrants and build a wall. she said it would cost the country hundreds of billions in revenue. clinton went after trump's business record with a lawsuit with the now-defunct trump university. she cited 3500 lawsuits and hundreds of leads against trump, some from people who claim he never paid for their services. >> he's written a lot of books about business. they all seem to end at chapter 11. he bankrupted his companies not once, not twice, but four times. those promises you're hearing from him at his campaign rallies, they are the same promises he made to his

eye on all of the damage caused by the strong storms this evening. this video from northwest d.c., a tree fell right on top of that honda there this afternoon. this is 16th street. you can see the back of the car is a total loss. that hurts. bicyclists and pedestrians in the district could soon have a stronger right to sue if they're involved in an accident with a motor vehicle. >> right now the city law makes it tough for them to blame the motorists, but the d.c. council wants to make a big change. >> four cars, four bikes, four pedestrians. sue ericsson

county west virginia warned right now. every area that you see in orange, that is a warned area. that means it is very serious. in the pink, that is generalized and that is a severe thunderstorm watch and that goes for everybody. let's go ahead and take a tour of the storm team 4 radar and you can see a lot of this storm movement from the north and west to the south and east. we will start where we had a lot of wind damage. waldorf had a lot of hail and that storm is now pushed off to the eastern shore and they'll see a little bit of rain coming through fredericksburg and that's about it. here are the warning areas and there is a storm around damask us and this one is moving to the east at 35 miles an hour and coming through mount area and columbia and that is one storm that is moving right along 70 right there between baltimore and into frederick. another warned area is where we have arlington, falls church, alexandria, fairfax county and this is right in here. a lot of wind coming out of the reston area and dulles toll road and

going down to 47 on i-66 and that is now just entering inside the beltway. again, points in arlington and tyson's corner getting pounded right now. that will continue to move to the south and east at about 25 miles an hour and we'll go in on this storm. wind damage possible with that and this is shomari stone and he's in the 4 x 4 and it looks like he is on the beltway, guys, is that right? he's coming around the beltway and getting ready to move into out of potomac and getting ready to move into the tyson's area corner and he is right along right here. you can see some rain starting to pick up and more heavy rain will continue to move that way and a lot of lightning with this and we've already had wind damage. this is our newly warned storm. this is coming out of winchester along i-81 and that goes around 340 up to clarks county and that goes until about 6:30. we have a lot of

of burglaries. let's get to pat collins in sandy spring with the details. >> reporter: i've got a lot of moving parts here. two home burglaries. two stolen cars and two summer camps put on lock down for about two hours. one, perhaps two, suspects still at large and in the middle of it all a huge rainstorm. it began when a neighbor saw this mercedes car parked up the driveway close by a house on excalibur lane. she'd seen the car earlier. she thought it was suspicious. she called 911. police here in a flash. >> officers arrived on scene and they saw the car running and when the officers entered the backyard a subject jumped the fence. >> reporter: that led it a massive man hunt. you see, there have been a number of burglaries in that area over the last ce

days and in at least one of those burglaries guns were taken. police working hard to shut this down. during the search, nearby road says blocked up and nearby cabs put on lockdown. neighbors told to stay inside. as it turns out that mercedes car had been stolen. >> heavy rain made it doubly difficult to hunt down the suspect. then around 2:00, another burglary a short cydistance awa on crystal springs drive. this tomb a toyota car stolen and because there was a power outage the garage door opener didn't work. so the crooks just drove through the garage door. mike maloy, he saw the car going away. >> i saw the car going by and usually the girl who drives it, you know, waves to me every day and they didn't wave and it has tints on the car so i couldn't tell, but i could kind of tell that there was a

washington was invited to ukraine this spring by the state department. ukraine has not always been kind to gay people. many report being attacked. >> right away we said this is something we need to do. >> the chorus sent its 14-member potomac ensemble to perform and because of the danger these gay men were briefed by the state department before they embarked. >> we had to be aware of how we were conducting ourselves. >> particularly in smaller towns they can be potentially dangerous to walk down the street holding your lover's hand. >> it kind of made me feel like you're back in the closet that you have to hide a part of yourself and hide your feelings. >> reporter: but this chorus knows it is a voice for those who cannot be heard. last year it went to cuba, a country that has oppressed its gay population for decades and they were heard. now it's time to sing to ukraine. ♪ ♪ >>

at edgewood and clarendon where there was a report of an explosion before 10:00 this morning. it turned out to be a transformer fire. several hundred people lost power as they sought to put that fire out and they actually brought a foam truck from reagan national airport to put chemicals on the fire. no one was injured and it did go to three alarms because they were concerned about the residences above where this fire started. fire crews are asking you to avoid the area around edgewood and clarendon until they can clear it. no injuries were reported. in clarendon, derek ward, news 4. >> news 4 begins now with storm team 4. >> right now at 6:00, a trail of damage after a line of strong storms moved through our area. tonight, we're getting new video of the mess left behind. this is what it looked like as it started to come down earlier and heavy rain, high winds and even hail. >> in just minutes we felt the

areas saw roads that were flooded. in other places it wasn't the water so much as falling trees creating problems. we have team coverage and it's been right up to doug kammerer and what's coming next? >> what's coming next is what's happening right now. just take a look outside of the studios with northwest d.c. and we have incredibly heavy rain and notice the flag not blowing all that much and the rain is coming down and coming down hard around our region. we did see stronger wind gusts a couple of minutes ago and that rain coming through the d.c. area right now and that has prompteded the national weather service to issue a flash flood warning for washington. if you live in the d.c. area that was the alert you were getting there on your phone saying you were under a flash flood warning. notice where the warnings are, back to the west watching this storm right here and this is the same storm along the same trail that we're going to be seeing. so we have numerous storms one in fairfax county in and around the beltway now and another one backar
