good moin good morning. breaking news. terrifying scene. the wing of a passenger plane catches fire seconds after an emergency landing in singapore. 241 people onboard, all safe. this morning how rescuers averted disaster. utter devastation. the death toll rises to 25 in the flooding in west virginia, and more rain expected today. in california, more than 200 homes destroyed by wildfire. all eyes on wall street. investors brace themselves for what could be another bumpy wide.

two hours into a flight and you are told to turn around to make an emergency landing. and then you see this out your window. the wing of the plane engulfed in flames. that was the case for 241 passengers and crew on a singapore flight overnight, and tom costello covers aviation for us. >> this was singapore flight 368 leaving for italy, and a warning light forced the pilot to move back and just in time, and once on the ground an engine and then a wing burst into plane. a terrifying sight no passenger wants to see, the engine and then the wing on fire. the boeing 777 on its way to milan, italy, was forced to turn around, the airline says, following an engine oil warning message and moments

an emergency landing the engine caught fire and passengers had to wait inside the plane until firefighters could douse the planes. a woman took these images, i am going hug my kids. all passengers and crew members got off the plane safety and singapore airlines will investigate fully to determine what went wrong. >> it was probably dumping fuel on the way back to the airport and some of the fuel may have clung to the wing, and rescue crews on the ground there quickly and prevented something far worse from happening. now to two devastating natural disasters here at home. it killed dozens in a powerful wildfire in california that has already destroyed hundreds of homes. we have both covered

with dylan dreyer. good morning. >> nearly 10 inches of rain fell in just 12 hours causing devastating flash flooding. you can see behind me what was a two-lane road down to one lane, and the other lane washed away, and crews trying to repair the road. this is a rain event that is expected only once every 1,000 years. the damage is plain to see. many businesses including this dairy queen completely destroyed. thousands remain without power as residents throughout the state begin what is expected to be a long and expensive cleanup. >> somehow it didn't get dirty. >> the national weather service is calling it a

event, massive flooding so powerful that cars and even homes were swept away. over the weekend, a controlled release of water after rainfall caused lake water to rise 38 feet in one day. on sunday president obama declared parts of the state a major disaster area clearing the way for federal funds. in the aftermath, 300 national guard troops had been deployed, many of them trying to salvage what is left. >> i don't know where to start. i just sit and i cry. >> the storm leaving many residents shocked by the extent of the damage. >> it's hard. sometimes you just feel like giving up and quitting. >> but amid the devastation, signs of hope. >> all you can do is give people a hugging and a shoulder to lean on and food in their belly. >> members of several different churches attended a joint service in the parking lot where relief efforts are under way. >> ino

preacher, where is god in this? he is right here. >> more storms are expected later today and if the heaviest rain occurs in some of the hardest hit areas it could lead to additional flash flooding. fema is encouraging people that suffered losses to register online or call. let's turn to california. crews are slowly starting to gain ground on a deadly wildfire that destroyed hundreds of homes north of los angeles and nbc's gaudy schwartz. >> this particular area is still under evacuation orders, but still people that lived here are finding a way to sneak back here in discovering there's nothing left. during the firstgh

fire, dozens of homes exploded. roads covered in smoke and flames. five miles away danny walker thought he was safe. t he was sa. >> it was quick. real quick. >> reporter: on the second night, the firestorm destroyed over 200 homes burned everything danny owns. >> reporter: >> i lost everything. >> reporter: we were there as danny saw the smoldering remains of his home for the first time and he was hugging his dog named bear who he thought was lost. >> everything is gone. but he stayed, he's good. >> two of his other dogs have not been seen since the fire and danny is one of hundreds that lost everything in the fire, and neighbors also sifting through the debris. signs of life in the rubble. >> i heard

picked up the roof and there he was. so many people out here in this situation. at 10:00 today authorities are going to begin discussing how to repopulate this area and how to lift the evacuation zones and many people are going to be coming home to this, and there are several area charities that are accepting donations including the red cross. matt? >> gaudy, thank you very much. >> and we wish we had better news. especially starting off with the fires. a lot of active fires going on right now, and it's going to be sunny and hot today, 101, and dry and gusty winds all week long so not a lot of help there. and we have a series of fronts passing through, flash flood wath

including a good portion of west virginia, and as the fronts push through some could be severe and we could be looking at gusty winds through tuesday. in the meantime, as we look at rainfall amounts, not going to take a lot to cause more flash flooding, and could be upwards of three inches of rain in some of the areas, but for the most part it's going to be about one to two inches and again with the ground completely saturated and all the rain they have gotten it won't take much to exacerbate all that flooding. let's talk about the fallout from britain's surprise vote to leave the european union. it caused markets around the world to plummet so what will happen on wall street this week? we have two reports beginning with nbc's kaer simmons in london. good morning to you. >> reporter: shares in two british bankings were briefly suspended with the uk and europe in
