out of this locker room with a big time attitude. now to the deadly officer involved shooting investigation unfolding right now in northeast washington. police say an officer shot and killed a man who ignored orders to drop a weaponover night. at first and barns street in northeast. that weapon was a bb gun. we have new insight from neighbors on what happened. >> reporter: yes. it happened right here along this walkway. we know the man's name but are not releasing it because police still have to contact next of kin. one of the resident managers tells me he was a good guy. he lived in building 109 here for yea

tape surrounds the building hours after gun shots startled neighbors late last night. >> he lived above me or behind or other side but it's a small building. >> reporter: you heard what. >> i heard drop the gun, drop the gun and maybe a few shouts from the cops and then a few seconds later six gun shots. >> i was asleep and i heard shots and it woke me up and then i heard the commotion with the police department. >> reporter: the police say they came here for a report of a man with a gun. here's what the police say happened. just before 10:30 last night in this northeast d.c. community where you see crime tape still up, officers say when they got here they found a man holding a weapon. that man then refused to drop his weapon upon numerous demands aen then officers say the

raised his weapon toward them and that's he they fired. police recovered the gun and it turned out to be a bb gun. this man says he was the man hours before police shot him and he lived alone. >> he was never the same after his wife died. he tried to talk to him, just don't do that. >> reporter: police are still investigating what triggered the man's actions. >> i guess the pressure got to him. that's the only thing, i guess the pressure got to him. i hate that he done that. >> reporter: the still unidentified man was taken to a hospital where he eventually died of his injuries. news 4. one failure of the system after another, that's the an al lis offered in the last hour by the republicans on benghazi. they are still answering questions in a news conference respect the report released blames the

turning to the devastating floods in west virginia. people across the state cleaning up from all the damage caused. thousands of homes and businesses already damaged and destroyed. fema says as of monday there have been 1,000 registrations for the assistance program. so far 23 people have died in the floods. we've also learned that the rescue squad in montgomery county is donating an ems unit to help in the recovery efforts. out west people are finally able to get home but many don't have anywhere to go back because of the wildfire. it's considered the most destructive in the county's history. it destroyed some 200 homes and killed two people. this is north of l.a. as of this morning firefighters say that it's 40 percent contained. emergency officials are lifting some of the evacuations. a legendary coach, former tennessee women's coach

$50,000 and then didn't show up for court back in 2009. his attorneys say he has agreed to appear in a court on the check charge next month. in court earlier this morning the mother who police say was last seen with her two missing children faces neglect and obstruction charges linked to their appearance. she was deemed incompetent to stand trial. the children disappeared from the family home in 2014. the mother is being treated at a state mental hospital. police are offering a reward to track down and convict the person responsible for a triple murder in district heights. investigators say moments after the murders the suspect was caught on camera carrying the gun in his hand in this neighborhood. five people were shot inside the home. this is friday night. three of them died. a half hour before the shooting that

surveillance video at this convenience store. anyone with information is urged to call police. the montgomery county council could consider a bill strengthening your rights as a renteder. the bill would require landlords to offer two year lease renewals and force the county to increase property inspections. the bill calls for a standard e standardized lease to be used across the county. the bill could reach full council later this year. an explosion lit up the sky at a bp natural gas facility in mississippi. this happened while you were sleeping. local officials say neither of the two employees on duty was hurt. the flow of natural gas has been turned off. the plant processes natural gas from offshore and converts it to liquid to be shipped by pipelines. details on an arrest in the

we're learning that police have charged the 53-year-old man with murder. that charge came yesterday. he may remember back on may 5th of this year alexandria marked the death with a man who had been stabbed that night. arrest in that case. detectives still looking for information from anyone who might be able to offer something new on this case. right now rescue crews are working to save a giant blue whale. it's tangled up in fishing line off the coast of southern california. yesterday crews spent hours trying to untangle the whale before it dove out of sight. a new study finding more than half of employees in this country are wasting away their vacation days. americans wasted

at having drivers pay by miles traveled rather than a gas tax. 50 people across those states would test it out getting fake invoices that would included estimated gas tax credits. drivers that don't want to pay by the mile would opt for out for an annual fee. time to dig out the paper fare cards from the metro. thursday is the last day to transfer the money to a smart trip card. you can make that transfer at the brown ticket machines which are located at all the stations. tap your smart card on the machine and insert your paper card and tap your smart trip card again. starting friday you won't get charged on a metro if you enter or exit the same station within 15 minutes. we're watching out for a chance for showers later today. the first round is leaving ut
