this looks to be cell phone video that captures what's on one of the closed circuit monitors. it looks as if at least one blast has already gone off. then as people running, there is another flash somewhere else in the terminal. turkey's prime minister says the terrorists arrived in a cab. first, an attacker started shooting up a parking lot and blew himself up. a second man detonated his bomb at the entrance to the international arrivals area. he blew out the glass wall, allowing a third suspect to get in. turkish forces reacted, describing how an officer wrestled the third man to the ground but couldn't stop him from detonating his bomb. the prime minister says initial indications point to isis, and a seni u

saying it's likely the work up to 35 fighters that isis sent to turkey before ramadan. wendy? >> chris lawrence, thanks. the tsa and homeland security are monitoring the developments in turkey, but there's been no change in security at airports here in the u.s. and while the state department is warning americans about travel to turkey, some flights to istanbul are resuming tonight. news4's shomari stone is at dulles where one flight is due to take off. >> reporter: that's right. the wash dulles international flight to istanbul is boarding right now as we speak. you may ask why would anyone want to fly to turkey after what happened? the people i talked to tell me they are not going to allow what they describe as terrorists to win. they refuse to live in fear. what was your reaction when you heard about the attack?

flight from istanbul arrived here at washington dulles international airport. the travelers walked through customs and met their family and friends with hugs, balloons, relieved to be back here in virginia. live, shomari stone, news4. folks, we have been in weather alert mode all evening long. storm team 4 tracking rain, thunderstorms, as they roll through our region tonight. viewers reporting a lot of heavy rain and lightning in some spots. >> once the rain let up, chopper 4 went up over a home in silver spring where a tree landed on top of this suv. nobody was hurt. same thing in college park tonight. trees lifted right out of the ground and property damaged. the storms so strong, it lifted pieces of roof right off this apartment complex. doug, the storms have been slowly moving out of our region, but we're not done just yet. >> we're not. most of the rains down to the south and

southern maryland, but we saw a lot of damage with these storms coming through the area. we saw a severe thunderstorm watch across much of the region today. those storms came through and did produce some severe thunderstorm warnings. these are the latest storms and now they're traveling towards the south. you can see the first storms here that prompted warnings. numerous trees down in loudoun county, faulkier county and prince william county, all of these are severe thunderstorm threats here. that's a new severe thunderstorm warning towards the south. i'll zoom on in down here. this is down around fredericksburg. a brand new thunderstorm warning just issued, that's the beeping you hear there. the heaviest storms from fredericksburg to the south. these are flash flood warnings. remember, turn around, don't drown. never go through a flooded roadway. new severe thunderstorm warnings, southern spots most likely until 11:45.

tomorrow, the so-called moon shot to cure cancer makes its next giant leap. vice joe biden will host a cancer summit put on by howard university. one of the focuses, personalized cancer care. new research is showing different ethnic groups such as native americans, have different cancer cells. so now doctors are starting to tailor their special treatments in hopes of dramatically increasing the survival rates. the summit will also toe kus on cancer care for poor and rural communities. news4 will sit down with the vice president for a one on one interview after the summit. watch her report tomorrow night at 6:00. ♪ it is video you will only see on news4. a confrontation outside the white house last month. we just got this video in. this is the chaos that

31-year-old of pennsylvania shot by a secret service agent after refusing to drop his gun here the south entrance. president obama was not home at the time. a security expert tells us officers did exactly what they were supposed to do in this situation. >> they did all the right things. and unfortunately, this person seemed to want to get shot, because he wasn't listening to the directions of dropping the weapon and stopping. and unfortunately he was shot but it was the right thing to do. >> he's going to be okay, his attorney asked him be held at home detention. d.c. police identified the man who may have tried to commit suicide by cop. officers responded to the pleasant hills apartments after someone called 911. there, they found 63-year-old sherman evans outside with a

gun. police say they shot and killed evans after he refused to drop the gun and actually pointed it at the officers. officers later learned the weapon was a bb gun, and they're now wondering and investigating if it was evans who called 911. the four officers awaiting trial in the freddie gray case are asking for their cases to be thrown out. that's according to the baltimore sun. attorneys for lieutenant brian rice, officer garrett miller, officer william porter and sergeant alicia white filed similar motions based on what they call defects in the prosecution's case. rice is the next officer set to stand trial, starting next tuesday. last week, you'll recall a judge acquitted officer goodson. he faced the most serious charges in gray's death. one week from tonight, metro begins another safe track shutdown, affecting not just the rails and the roads but people who fly in and out of reagan national airport. the yellow and the ue

excited with it. >> gabriel says the success makes him want to continue making prosthetics for other children in need. >> go, lucas. well, you've heard it over and over again. d.c. is a no-drone zone. remote aircraft not allowed anywhere in the district. but what if the drone doesn't fly? the d.c. council gave the okay for one company to test drones that operate on the ground to deliver your packages. ♪ >> reporter: a vote thursday by the d.c. council has given approval to test robot delivery technology in the district. it's the first time so-called ground drones, which look like picnic coolers on wheels, have been approved for testing anywhere in the u.s., according to maker starship technologies, based in estonia and london.

across the river, very heavy rain and thunderstorms around the fredericksburg area, and down i-95, inclouding a severe thunderstorm warning for spot sylvainian county. there's the warning, close to woodbridge and quantico. this one just issued in fredericksburg until 1:45 in the morning. please, never drive through flooded roadways. give yourself a lot of extra time overnight and tomorrow morning we could sew some problems. no problems from actual storms tomorrow. this whole system is moving off. as it does, we'll see much drier air move in. temperatures, 70 in gaithersburg. 71 in quantico. i don't expect temperatures to fluctuate that much. by tomorrow morning, sun is up around 7:00 and temperatures on the rise. 72 degrees, a very nice start to the day with cloud
