officer who killed an unarmed man is set to get out of jail. he killed him back in 2013. gear was in a standoff with police after a domestic dispute in virginia when torres shot him. a judge sentenced torres to one year in jail, plus three years suspended. torres has been in jail for ten months already. new video this morning. police are looking for two persons of interest in a shooting in laurel. this happened at the knight's inn on fort meade road over the weekend. this video was taken at the mcdonald's just before the shooting. the suspects walked up to a 19-year-old man and shot him. that victim is in critical condition. it is a personal day today for vice president joe biden. a year after his son's death, the vice president plans to catapult the so-called moon shot to cure cancer to the next level. biden

back to you. this morning, family and friends will bury a d.c. mother killed in a domestic violence incident. stephanie goodloe was found dead in her home on june 18th. they've charged her ex-boyfriend donald hairston with her murder. he had vie latd an emergency protective order. her funeral will be held this morning in northwest. a bb gun sparked an officer-involved shooting and left a 63-year-old man dead. they want to barnum street monday night for the call of a man with a gun. they found sherman evans on the scene there. he ignored the demands to drop the weapon. they were trying to figure out if he tried to commit suicide by cop. security footage showing a confrontation outside the white house here. this happened last month.

on monday. in it, you can see 31-year-old jesse olivieri of pennsylvania. he can be seen refusing to drop his gun near the south entrance of the white house. he's eventually shot by a secret service officer and his gun is then kicked away. moments later he received medical help and the security expert tells us that officer did not wrong in this scenario. >> did all the right things. unfortunately, this person seemed to be wanting to get shot because he certainly wasn't listening to the directions of dropping the weapon and stopping. >> olivieri is now recovering. his attorney has asked that he be held in home detention. but a judge says the man is a public danger. for the first time, e.u. leaders are meeting this morning without britain. david cameron left the meeting yesterday without any clear

based on what they call defect in the prosecution's case. lieutenant brian wright is the next officer supposed to stand trial next tuesday. a judge acquitted a van driver last week. freddie gray died last year after his neck was broken in a police transport van. the zika virus will be the subject of a meeting in germantown. they will talk about the best way to protect yourself and your family from mosquitoes. that meeting begins at 6:30 at the sidney kramer regional services building. the senate will also discuss the virus at a roundtable. lawmakers and cdc officials will talk about ways to prevent and protect the country from a zika outbreak. the group is kerpd that temporarily moving the bailey's crossroads community shelters could become long-term and too

after the july 4th holiday, metro begins the next shutdown. airline passengers will be most affected because of the stop at reagan national airport will be closed. the blue and yellow lines we'll check out starting next week between the airport and braddock road. that will take place over a span of search days. then another shutdown in pentagon city after that. riders are planning ahead. >> instead of going to this stop by bus, i'll have to go to pentagon city. i have to reverse my bus route and take two transfers instead of my usual just straight shot in. >> metro's general manager says it's so far been successful because riders have been willing to make alternate travel plans. news 4 learned that maryland

summer when it moves to the red line. they cannot make adjustments in time. maryland ruled out a shuttle system between union station and rock belt using marks trains. a rail fastener that began smoldering on the track inside the metro station is now at a lab for testing. metro says an electrical current caused the smoking problem monday to temporarily shut down that station monday night. smoke filled the station after a fire extinguisher has used. it's back to jail for the man accused of groping a little girl at a target in fairfax county. he was out of jail on bond after his arrest last week. on monday, though, the commonwealth's attorney appealed the bond decision and won. car dove a will stay in jail until his next hearing in august. he faces three counts of aggravated sexual bat ray. the loudoun county sheriff's office is asking for $30,000 in federal funding. it would beed

equipment, including 45 body cameras. it's requested as part of a four-year grant program that includes no local tax funding. we're continuing to follow the terror attack in turkey. this morning, the united states is offering to help the country investigate this attack. federal officials are keeping an eye on it to see if there are vulnerabilities at home. tracie potts has the latest on all this. good morning, tracie. >> there's no extra security that they are ordering to be put in place now in the u.s. local jurisdictions can change that. here in d.c., in new york, l.a., other big cities, you might see more tactical teams around the airport, but not coming down from washington. they said they have no reason to believe that u.s. is being targeted. when this happened, the flights going to turkey were shut down, flights coming in from turkey. some were already in the air and were allowed to land. we caught up with some of

passengers at jfk. the u.s. does inspect foreign airports. they run the crew names and even the people who service the planes against terror watch lists in an attempt to keep this coming into our borders. as for the investigation, you noted that aaron, the u.s. will be assisting in intelligence. it's possible one of the first things they'll be doing is trying to identify who the attackers were. going through their cell phones to see who they were in contact with. some senior u.s. officials say this has all the marks of isis. although that's not official yet in terms of them being responsible. but it looks that way. they are kerpd that this could be the beginning of a very long summer. >> tracie potts on the hill for us. thank you. 4:48. prince william county police named a new police chief. colonel barry barn bar national guard has been the a

in 1976 as a patrol officer. the volunteer rescue squad is sending help to counties in west virginia destroyed by the flood. places like clay county lost at least two ambulances after being damaged by the floodwaters. when he received an e-mail asking for help, he did not hesitate a second. wheaton is sending clay county two of its ambulances. >> know that equipment was lost. we also know that they were struggling replacing that equipment. we looked at thealue to the west virginia departments as being ex he had soceeding our v >> they will drive the vehicles to west virginia and turn the keys over to first responders in clay county. they need a lot of help and glad that our area can reach out.

4:56 now. the deadliest mass shooting in u.s. history. 49 people killed at the pulse nightclub earlier this month. now orlando police released the transcripts from the 911 calls they received. in those calls, people tell dispatchers they or their friends have been shot and they're losing blood. some of the dispatchers hear screams and gunshots. some say their callers stopped answering after some of the calls first came in. investigators are still working to learn -- rather -- investigators are still working to learn more about the shooter, omar mateen and why he would have done this. you can see the interview with orlando's police chief on the "today" show later this morning. at 4:56.

a routine checkup for most women. a govement advisory panel says that there is not much evidence to show that those pelvic exams help detect cancers, infections or sexually transmitted diseases in healthy women. despite the study, patients say it offers them a peace of mind. >> i'm not worried about my discomfort if it's something that can be life changing or saving. >> researchers and doctors agree that the exams rp beneficial for pregnant women or symptoms of women with gynecological problems. the north american leaders summit. the president will meet with the canadian prime minister, justin true dough -- after the summit, the president will have a bilateral meeting. they will decided whether to revoke bill cosby's honorary degree. he was awarded that doctorate in 1996.

assault by dozens of women but he's denied the accusations. it's a touchy subject when does a child's punishment cross the line? one alabama man was arrested on the suspicion that he went too far. james chat man was at a mcdonald's with his grandchildren last month when someone claimed that he dragged one of them by the arm. chapman was arrested, spent the night in jail and was ordered to stay a twa from his grandkids for a week. he says what happened to him was wrong and he's glad it is over. >> when i got home, i had all three of them in my lap. couldn't get them down. >> chapman's attorney says surveillance video shows chapman never dragged any of his grandchildren. police dropped all the charges. stay with us.
