are responding to the attack in turkey. 5:03 now. by the end of today, former fairfax county police officer adam torres should be out of jail. he's the officer who shot a man to death in 2013. gear was in a standoff with police at a home in springfield when torres opened fire. on friday, a judge in fairfax county sentenced him to one year in jail, plus three years suspended. torres had already served more than ten months. new video this morning. police are looking for two persons of interest after a shooting in laurel. an run dell county police say the video was taken at the mcdonald's before the shooting. the suspects walked up to a 19-year-old man and shot him. the victim is in critical condition. today, the vice president's personal mission to find a cure for cancer. takes center stage at howard university. joe biden is hosting a cancer summit this morning just a year

back to you. >> thank you, jack. today could be an emotional one for vice president joe biden. he'll be at howard university to talk about his ongoing effort to find a cure for the very disease that killed his son, beau. megan fitzgerald is live in northwest with what to expect today. meagan, good morning. >> reporter: we're expecting to arrive this morning when the summit is expected to kick off. as you may recall, joe biden lost his son to brain cancer a year ago. this summit is deeply personal. so here's what we're expecting. the summit will bring together organizations, medical professionals, members of the community to try and create ideas about new efforts to fight and eventually cure cancer. we know a main focus will be personal -- the personalization of cancer because new research has shown than

trial starting next tuesday. van driver, officer goodson was acquitted. freddie gray died after his neck was broken in a police transport van. this morning, family and friends will bury a d.c. mother. stephanie goodloe was found dead in her home on june 18th. d.c. police charged her ex-boyfriend, donald hair ston with her murder. the day before that murder, goodloe called police to report that hairston had vie latd an emergency protective order. her funeral will be held this morning at mt. gilead baptist church northwest. a deadly officer involved shooting. d.c. police are investigating whether a 63-year-old man tried to commit suicide by cop. officers say it may have been sherman evans himself who called police late monday night. police found him there with what turned out to be a bb ginn. he

weapon. officers opened fire and evans died at the hospital. this is video you're only going to see on news 4. we're now getting a look at that confrontation between the gunman and the secret service and how it escalated outside the white house last month. in that video played in court on monday, you see 31-year-old jesse olivieri of pennsylvania there. he can be seen refusing to drop his gun near the south entrance of the white house. he's eventually shot by a secret service officer and then the gun is kicked away from his hand. moments later he received medical attention. they said police did nothing wrong. >> they did all the right things, it was textbook. unfortunately, this person wanted to get shot. he certainly wasn't listening to the directions of dropping the weapon and stopping. >> olivieri is now recovering. his attorney has asked that he be held in home detention. the judge says the man is a public

delegate eleanor holmes norton will host a roundtable on gun violence. one week ago she took part in the sit-in on the house floor to force a vote on gun legislation. d.c. police chief and families affected by gun violence will also speak at this roundtable. it begins at the mlk library on g street west. gun violence will be the subject of another meeting. chris van holland and elijah cummings are hosting the meeting. many will push for action on gun safety. the meeting is at baltimore's episcopal cathedral at 10:00 a.m. women who have a severe form of hpv may have a higher risk of genital cancers. denmark researchers found that infected women were 4 to 17 times more likely to develop these kinds of cancers. the study followed more than 2 million women for more than 3 decades. here's a question for you.

jack, thank you. new developments in a shooting that killed two women. sheriffs deputies say a custody hearing earlier in the day may have prompted the gunfire outside a courthouse in eastern arizona. deputies arrested a suspect there. the women were targeted. they are not releasing any other details about the suspect or the custody hearing at this point. dozens of people out of their homes because of this house explosion in canada. look at the damage here. the blast just leveled this house in ontario yesterday and damaged at least two dozen others. police say one woman is dead, a dozen others hurt. emergency crews are trying to stabilize the scene before they investigate what set off that explosion. it's a 5:25. california voters will decide whether to legalize recreational marijuana. they turned in enough signatures to get the measure on the november ballot. 1 in 6 americans lived in the state with legal marijuana sales. researchers are

adjustments in time. a lab is testing a rail fastener that caused the metro station to temporarily shut down this week. metro says an electrical current passed through that fastener causing the incident on monday. smoke filled the station after a fire extinguisher was used on that fastener. a man accused of groping a little girl at a target store is going back to jail. he was out on bond after his arrest. on monday, the commonwealth's attorney appealed the bond decision and won. he will stay in jail until his next hearing in august. he faces three counts of aggravated sexual battery. it's 5:33. people from one of the south d.c. neighborhoods will gather tonight. they want to talk about recent crimes in the area. police are expected to update neighbors about the monday morning shooting where one person was wounded and at least three cars damaged in gunfire at 17th and independence avenue.

members from the u.s. attorney's office from d.c. are expected to be there. the meeting at 7:00 p.m. on independence avenue. one of the most read stories on the app right now is about the man facing charges for tweeting threats against u.s. senators. he's out of jail. a federal judge made a list of demands before releasing the man. the alexandria man has to undergo mental health evaluations, wear a tracking device and cannot contact the lawmakers he's accused of threatening. his fiance says the tweets were satire, not genuine threats against any members of congress. the wheaton volunteer rescue squad is sending help to counties in west virginia destroyed by floods. the chief says places like clay county lost two ambulances after being damaged by floodwaters. when he received an e-mail on sunday from first respors
