woodrow wilson bridge. you're in decent shape in the outer or inner loop. all travel lanes available. 6:01 now. developing at this hour, flights are taking off again. but it is a tragic scene in istanbul. you're looking at live pictures from the airport right now. dozens of people were killed in multiple suicide bombings there. crews are trying to clean up the damage. erika gonzalez is at the live desk with the latest developments. erika. >> we're just getting word that air traffic at istanbul's airport has returned to normal. chilling videos are starting to emerge of the horror unfolding at that airport as explosives went off and shots were fired. panicked passengers running with their suitcases. three suicide bombers killed. dozens of people and wounded close to 150 late last night. airport taxis rushing the victims to hospitals. this is one

airports and a double layer of security. kristin wright following security questions and impacts here later in the broadcast. government officials say at this hour all signs point to isis. we are also getting this amateur video inside the airport showing people running and panicked. airport officials rushed to get those injured to safety. police fired shots to stop two of the attackers before they reached a security checkpoint at the arrivals hall. in just -- well now, at 6:02. we wants to take you to this video you'll only see an news 4. we're getting a look at that security footage from the confrontation with the gunman outside of the white house last month. this was video played in court on monday. you see 31-year-old jesse olivieri of

refusing to drop his gun near the south entrance of the white house. he's eventually shot by a secret service agents and his gun is kicked away out of his hand. moments later, he's on the ground and cuffed. then he gets medical attention. the president was not home at the time. but the vice president was inside the old executive office building. a security expert says that officers followed procedure. >> it was appropriate. this man had a weapon. he was not dropping that weapon. he could have fired a shot at the white house. >> the man is recovering from his injuries. his attorney thinks he should be held at home. the judge says he poses a threat to the public. 6:03. today is the funeral for a d.c. mother murdered inside her home in a domestic violence incident. she died on kentucky avenue. police charged her ex-boyfriend with her murder. the day before the murder,

goodloe called police that hairston had violated the -- maryland state police investigating a murder-suicide in allegheny county. police say that they found mary preston and george wet stone dead inside a home on mt. savage road. yesterday, officers were called to that house after wet stone did not show up for work and police found the two dead in an upstairs bedroom. officers believe that he shot preston and then turned the gun on himself. a win for rolling stone magazine. a judge throwing out a defamation lawsuit four brothers filed against it last year. the men claimed in an article detailing a gang rape at their fraternity house at the university virginia damaged their reputation. that article has since been proven inaccurate. rolling stone has apologized. a judge in new york says he threw out the lawsuit

brothers cited comments that were speculation, not facts. five minutes after the hour now. vice president joe biden's effort to fight cancer takes him to howard university. meagan has moran who to expect. >> reporter: good morning, aaron. that cancer moon shot summit is expected to start at 9:00 this morning. the white house tells us that vice president joe bride en will be joined by 350 oncologists, health care providers, researchers, patients, family members and other people from the community. the mission here is to try and double the rate of progress as it relates to cancer and essentially, eventually find a cure. we want to get to some of the information we're learning about what will be announced at this summit that begins at 9:00 this morning. the summit will announce that the national cancer institute will be forging a public/private partnership with 20

pharmaceuticals and biotechnical companies. it's to expedite clinical trials so patients have more options. along the lines of making clinical research trials more accessible. this will improve the way patients and oncologists learn and find information on cancer trials. lastly, the white house says that the breast cancer research foundation will announce its plan to double the research investment from 50 million to $100 million by the year 2021. those are just a few of the announcements we're expecting to hear. coming up later in the show, we'll have more information on some of the announcements they'll make. meagan fitzgerald live for us at howard. eun is on assignment this morning getting ready for a one-on-one interview with the vice president later today. you can watch her full report on news 4 at 6:00. the zika virus will be the subject of

with more than three years suspended. gear's mother called that offensive. torres has already spent more than ten months behind bars. new questions this morning in a deadly officer-involved shooting. d.c. police are investigating whether a 63-year-old man tried to commit suicide by cop. officers say it may have been been sherman evans himself who called police to barnum street late monday night. they found him with what turned out to be a bb gun. he ignored demands to drop his weapon and pointed it at them. evans died at the hospital. it's back to jail for a 19-year-old from northern virginia. police say that he groped a little girl at a target store. he was out on bond after his arrest last week. monday, the commonwealth's attorney appealed the bond decision and won. his next hearing is set for august. he faces three counts of aggravated sexual battery. 5:16 now. in the day ahead, eleanor holme

turkey yesterday. this is the airport in istanbul where the attack happened last night. here's what we know at it this point. 41 people dead, more than 100 hurt when three suicide bombers blew themselves up. it happened in the parking lot and in the arrivals area as well as the greeting area there at the airport. it's not clear exactly who is responsible but turkish officials believe isis is to blame here. the airport has reopened this morning and flights are back in service. several airports are increasing police presence in the aftermath of the attack in turkey. while there is no threat to airports here, security experts say, that they are dealing with a major challenge overseas. kristin wright joins us liefr from dulles international airport with more. >> reporter: good morning. we did see two police officers standing with large guns displayed right inside the entrance of dulles airport. we also talko

they're flying internationally. they told us that flying on the fourth of july, flying home on the fourth of july is what they're most concerned about. now, at the same time, u.s. aviation security experts are saying this morning that making sure overseas airports have solid security is a huge challenge. security has as good as or better than that in the united states. so that terrorists cannot board planes bound for the state. this morning, we're asking passenger here at dulles if they are ready to fly in light of what's happened in turkey. >> kind of what they want from all the attacks that happened. not really. not afraid of flying. >> it's terrifying, it really is. i got my little one. i mean, it is terrifying. but i mean, you don't live your life being afraid. >> reporter: airports in new york, new jersey and miami and los angelre

police presence also today. live at dulles international airport, kristin wright. news 4. back to you. >> thank you, kristin. the remaining officers awaiting trial for freddie gray's death wants their charges dropped. the baltimore sun reports all four attorneys filed similar motions based on defects in the prosecution's case. lieutenant brian rice is the next officer scheduled to stand trial starting next tuesday. last week a judge acquitted the officer driving the van. freddie gray died after his neck was broken in a police transport van. sentencing in montgomery county this afternoon. he was convicted for neglecting and stealing from a 95-year-old rockville woman. he forged several checks totaling $11,000. he failed to take proper care of woman. five more counties in west virginia received a federal disaster declaration following deadly flooding.

residents in several counties can apply for aid from fema. the governor says poke hon. at that and webster counties are waiting for approval for federal help. flash flooding damaged and destroyed homes and killed several people. chief mark dempsey says that clay county lost at least two ambulances after being damaged by floodwaters. on sunday, he received an e-mail asking for help from first responders. dempsey jumped into action, getting approval to send the ambulances in just 24 hours. >> i was able to pretty quickly and unanimously get the support of the board of directors. we went ahead and decided to accepted it with the cot that came with the unit. >> dempsey knows what it's like to run a department with limited resources and is grateful to be in a position it help. collecting supplies for west

developing out of texas this morning, the search continues for three people missing after a head-on train crash. two freight trains collided yesterday morning near the small town of panhandle, texas. one person jumped out before the

that vice president joe biden will be joined by 350 oncologists, other health care providers. patients, family members and other people in the community. of course, the goal here is to eventually cure cancer. what we're learning about is there's an announcement that will be made this morning as it relates to veterans that are battling cancer. want to tell you a little bit about what we're learning here. the white house tells us that the prostate cancer foundation will make a donation to the department of veterans affairs. we're told there will be a minimum donation of $50 million over the next five years with an emphasis on supporting prostate cancer research and care for veterans. also, ibm and the department of veterans affairs will announce their plan to launch a new partnership over the next two years that will focus on helping veterans that are battling cancer. lastly, the white house says that breast cancer research foundation will announce its plan to double

with her murder. the day before the murder, goodloe called police to report that hairston violated an emergency protective order. maryland state police are investigating a murder-suicide in allegheny county. police found mary preston and george wet stone dead inside a home in corriganville. yesterday officers were called to the home after wet stone didn't report to work. they were found dead in a bedroom. they believe he shot preston and turned the gun on himself. a win for rolling stone magazine. a judge threw out a defamation lawsuit. three former phi kappa sy brothers filed against it last year. they claimed an article detailing a gang rape at their fraternity house at the university of virginia damgd their reputations. that article has been proven incompetent accurate. rolling stone has apologized and a judge says he threw out the lawsuit yesterday because the
