that still has traffic backed up. fire officials tell us two people are critically injured. they had to be cut out of the wreckage and flown to shock trauma in baltimore. >> no word yet on what caused this crash that occurred just south of columbia. howard county fire says drivers should expect extended delays from the state police investigation and find another route south toward d.c. also tonight, it was a brutal attack inside a maryland home. five people shot, three of them killed. >> today, police said they got their guy. the suspect, 24-year-old lawrence sylvester rogers, jr., of capital heights. he was arrested in the district. while police work to figure out a motive, friends of one victim tell us they've never seen rogers before. news4's darcy spencer reports from palmer park. >> reporter: jim, that victim was a 60-year-old man, and dozens of his friends turned out outside the homeer

sense out of what happened there. for many, this might sound like just a bunch of noisy motorcycles. but for this group of harley owners, it's a tribute to a fallen rider. >> we love you, wayne. >> reporter: wayne rolette was among the three vims shot and killed in this home. he was a harley rider, known to keep an emaculate home and had many close friends. >> sometimes we would get out and ride down to the countryside. >> it's still shocking to me. he's going to be missed. >> reporter: the vigil came just a few hours after police announced they had arrested lawrence rogers, jr., a 24-year-old man from capital heights, in the shooting. friends say they have no idea why he was shot or even why she was at this home friday night. >> people with the guns out

lives behind simple stuff. please put the guns down. >> he was a hard-working man. he didn't bother nobody. he didn't deserve what he got. that's how i look at it. he's going to be missed. i'm going to miss him so much. >> reporter: his sister carlina gray was also killed. >> it's not going to bring my sister back. she's gone. >> reporter: that suspect currently in washington, he's going to be extradited here to prince george's county to face those murder charges. two victims remain in the hospital. one of them is still in critical condition. wendy, back to you. >> darcy spencer, thank you. another battle in the contentious transgender debate in fairfax county schools. it wasn't on the agenda at the school board meeting but came up during a discussion of changes to the sex education program. chris lawrence is live with more.

>> reporter: wendy, we know that come the new school year, they're going to learn more about sexual assault and giving consent. but as you said, the agenda and the debate was entirely dominated by gay and lesbian, and transgender issues. >> i was a senior at robinson secondary school and i'm a transman. >> your goal is to be inclusive of all students, not just a few. >> reporter: recent graduates want more diverse sexual education. but some parents say fairfax county has already gone too far. >> role of the school system should be to support parents, not to direct us. >> reporter: caitlin ortiz came out in the 8th grade. >> if i had had the opportunity to be in an fle class, i would have been so much better off. >> reporter: meg opted out of family life education

suspicious of the new curriculum being installed for the new school year. what are you not hearing from this board? >> they have put forward the idea that they're going the include a lot of new material in the curriculum. things about different sexual practices and transgender students. yet as parents we haven't seen any of the lesson plans. if they want our input, they should give us more time to give it. >> reporter: look, parents know that come the new school year, the sex ed curriculum is going to look different. but some of them say they don't have nearly enough specifics. jim? >> chris lawrence, thank you. several high schools in montgomery county are about to get new turf soccer fields. the school board has settled a legal suit clearing the way for construction of a new turf field here at winston churchill high.

invest up to $5 million in fields at walt whitman and albert einstein high schools and julius west middle school. in exchange, the youth soccer organization will get access to the fields when not in use by those schools. the fields could be completed next year. an urgent warning from government safety regulators who say owners of some 300,000 older model hondas and acuras, stop driving them immediately and get them repaired at your dealership. these affected cars are all model years 2001 through 2003. they're part of a larger takata airbag recall that began eight years ago. the new data shows that those who have not made the fix on some specific models face serious danger. >> we have brand new laboratory testing that is showing some of these older models could have a 50% rupture rate. >> honda says 70%

included in this airbag recall have been repaired. a tesla electric car with an auto pilot feature was involved in a deadly crash and tonight, the feds are investigating a man down in florida died back in may when a big rig made a turn in front of his tesla model s. the company says neither the auto pilot feature or the driver noticed the tractor trailer so the brake was not applied. the head of the ntsb acknowledged there will be fatal crashes involving those self-driving car. the "today" show will have much more tomorrow morning. turkey has launched raids across its country today and took more than a dozen people into custody. this in connection to that terror attack in istanbul. a terror attack that's killed 44 people. new security camera video shows people running for their lives in the terminal. we're also getting a look at the men who hid these bombs under their wte

replacement. she plans to return to work in a couple of weeks. thousands of d.c. residents could see an increase on their power bills. pepco requested the largest rate increase in decades today. 85.5 million dollars. that would amount to roughly 5% increase on power bills. the pepco says it will be spread out over three years, so residents would object see a 1.5% increase each year. pepco has already credited customers $50 when it americaned with exelon covering the cost of this rake hike. here's the good news for those riding metro. you won't have to pay for entering and leaving the same station because of delays. if you leave after tapping a station, metro charges you the maximum fare. earlier this year, metro approved a change allowing riders to get a refund, if they

overnight tonight. but we are going to start to see a chance for showers during the day tomorrow. satellite and radar showing cloud cover moving in. these are mid to high level clouds. they will help act as a blanket tonight, keeping things warmer than they have been. then this front, notice with this front, a lot of times you sew a front and you have numerous thunderstorms. this one only has a scattering. it's not a very strong front. what it will do is bring us warm, moist air out of the south. that means more humid air across the region tomorrow and a lot more of the warmer air, too. and a chance for thunderstorms. but take a look at the latest model that we have here. this takes us through tomorrow. 7:00 a.m., maybe some clouds and maybe some isolated areas of fog. tomorrow around 1:00. isolated showers, that's it. not expecting much around this time. even during the afternoon, earlier, it looked like we would have a few. not much going on at all around 7:00. then watch happens as the actual front comes throu
