maryland by way of 15 and point of rocks bridge, a crash on the virginia side, loudon county authorities are dealing with. two lane stretch, both lanes are blocked, northbound and southbound, nothing getting by south of the point of rocks bridge. drivers are getting an early start to this busy travel week. >> megan mcgrath joins us live from the bay bridge. >> it's the holiday weekend and actually more people are going to be traveling from our area this holiday weekend, the fourth of july, than they they did during memorial day and that means that a lot of people are going to be crossing that chesapeake bay bridge. we're taking the exit here from sandy point. we're on route 50 if you look on ahead here, we're approaching the toll bridge. we're not seeing any problems in terms of delays here. it is smooth sailing across the bay b

now to decision 2016 and donald trump is turning his attention to conservatives in the midwest today. he's trying to gain support at the western conservative summit in denver. democratic leaders in virginia are trying to give hillary clinton an advantage in that swing state. "the washington post" reports that governor terry mcauliffe and senators cain and warner are lending staffers. in maryland, the minimum wage goes up to $8.75 an hour but montgomery county will see that increase to $10.75 an hour. drivers will pay for more gas with an increase in the gas tank. the fees for a birth or death certificate dropped to $10. in virginia, new laws to the increase minimum marriage age is now 18. exceptions forar

residents in boise are returning to dig through what's left of their homes. investigators believe the fire near boise was started by illegal fireworks. the flames are no longer threatening home. that fire burned through more than 2,600 acres. no arrests have been made. neighbors in the las vegas area are cleaning up from flash flooding. downpours of rain and hail led to raging waters. firefighters had to rescue six people. thousands of people still without power this morning. a little boy is in critical condition right now. he nearly drowned on a cruise ship. that royal caribbean cruises anthem of the seas ship. they found the eight-year-old in a pool. the ship turned toward new jersey and the boy is in the hospital right now. close to 30 years he was homeless but last month at the

bought his first home. he said his time in homeless shelters was worse than his time at war. he came home addicted to drugs and with mental health issues, groups and the va, he's got a place to call home. >> some days i sit there and cry. >> according to hud, there's a less than 50,000 veterans experiencing homelessness at any given time. in news for your health now, over the next two aekeds, the number of older cancer survivors is expected to rise significantly. the national cancer institute predicts that nearly 3/4 of cancer survivors in 2040 will be 65 or older. that is a 62% higher than this year. scientists credit better detection and treatment of cancer. the sunscreen that you use may not protect your skin as much as you

video showed a different story. a man is in custody after he wielded a knife at police officers. this happened during a traffic stop yesterday. the man was not hit, but maryland transportation authority police say one of their officers fired a shot when the man would not drop the knife. starting today, if you pass a stopped school bus in virginia with a camera -- if you stop a bus that has a camera in virginia, you can expect a summons in the mail. drivers will have to pay $250 for a stop arm violation. over the next year, the military will end its ban on transgender soldiers. ash carter says the changes will be phased in. advocates are praising that move. >> what it means is that transgender troops can serve openly. they don't have to live in fear. they don't have to lie about who they are.

metro station even after you swiped your metro card. >> we have more on the new grace period and some tips for your holiday commute. >> reporter: that decision was made back in march and metro says that the policy includes up to 15 minutes for passengers to decide whether or not they want to wait on their train or leave and get a refund. there's a lot of other things happening this weekend if you are taking metro that we want to tell you about. some things to keep in mind. that two-week shut down of the blue, orange, and silver line ends on sun and metro says they will not be doing any track work on the fourth of july to hopefully make traveling more efficient. brace yourself for the next surge on metro safe track plan. that starts on tuesday and could significantly impact your travel to the airport. starting july 5th, there will be no metro rail service between national airport and the braddock road station on the blue and yellow line. that closure will last through july 11th
