it's hundreds and thousands of people that are hitting the road. good afternoon, folks. here's what we know right now. a lot of areas are under a severe thunderstorm watch. >> and the sunshine that you may be seeing right now may be making things worse. let's go right to amelia draper. what's it looking like right now and when are you expecting things to really get going? >> right now we're tracking scattered showers and we'll keep the threat of thunderstorms in the forecast until 8:00, 9:00 p.m. tonight. right now, not tracking any severe weather. in fact, the lightning is not showing up on the radar. until 10:00 p.m., this includes the entire d.c. area. prince william, fauquier counties. this afternoon and on into the earlier evening çhours, heavy rain could lead to isolated flash flooding and

even more traffic because monday is the fourth of july. we went across the bay bridge earlier and even then there were delays. the first traffic backup we hit was at the 270 spur caused by a long-standing morning accident at 3:55. then, it was smooth sailing until annapolis where volume on 50 east caused backups all the way to the bay bridge. on the bridge, we traveled at no more than half the posted speed limit and then hit brake lights and came to a complete stop. any problems? >> just volume. i didn't see any stopped cars. >> reporter: at the dash-in service station, people who hit the road before noon

don't seem to know where he is. what is happening here, mark? >> he taught in schools for 16 years and coleman started having sex with one of his students when the girl was 14 years old and the relationship continued until she was 19. court records show that coleman left the academy to work for another school. allegations didn't surface publicly until he was fired from teaching with his job in d.c. and then went to florida where he was arrested last month. coleman appeared before a federal judge in florida and was expected to be extradited to d.c. but that judge released him on a $60,000

out on a bond in florida somewhere. >> thank you very much, mark. the controversy surrounding presidential candidate hillary clinton and her use of her personal e-mail account while secretary of state. loretta lynch realizes that her meeting with bill clinton has cast a shadow over her ability to remain neutral in the investigation. she reiterated that the talks won't compromise the integrity of the probe. >> it's important to make it clear that that meeting with president clinton does not have a bearing on how this matter is going to be reviewed, resolved affected by me. >> they mostly talked about their children, she says,

airport in phoenix. at the live çdesk, breakin news on a hostage situation in bangladesh which is occurring in dhaka, the capital of the area. gunfire was exchanged with security forces and they took hostages. four police officers have been cleared but it's not clear if anyone else has been shot. they are trying to negotiate with the gunmen and isis is already taking responsibility for the attack. this is a restaurant frequented by foreigners, we're told. so far, it doesn't appear that any americans have been killed. the state department is asking those in bangladesh to contact loved ones. back to you. >> thank you, scott. two people are recovering after being injured

and not just a passing rain. it's on the forecast. everybody under severe thunderstorm watch if you're east of the blueridge until 10:00 p.m. tonight. yellows, oranges and reds, that's heavy rainfall moving towards the east. heavier rain makes its way towards the herndon area. certainly as we continue into the later afternoon and evening hours, not only concerned about heavy rain but gusty winds and hail. here's the future weather at 5:00 p.m. through this broken line of showers that we're tracking right now, 6:00, it's moving through the d.c. area and we really quiet down and an isolated shower. aside from that, though, we're clearing out. skies are clearing out and the humidity levels are starting to drop. right now, with the mugginess, this is how hot it is feeling outside. 94

have to say about it? >> reporter: this safeway will be closing tomorrow. it's already considered a food desert, meaning people who live in this community, don't have a number of fresh food options and now they are losing their only grocery store. folks in this community say they were not given a heads up about this happening and are very disappointed to know that now they are only left with one discount grocery store in the immediate area. safeway said that they were losing more than a million dollars a year by operating here and it's been happening for a couple years now. hear now from a senator from maryland who represents this area and says this is not acceptable. >> we are very concerned about the clothing of safeway, period.

storm team 4 radar is beginning to light up with showers and storms as we start the long holiday weekend. we have declared a weather alert as we track the rough weather. let's go to the storm center to get the latest. >> as people head out of town, we're watching some storms bubbling up, mainly west of here and then up towards baltimore. the virginia beaches and maryland beaches are getting storms and it will continue until 9:00 or 10:00. you can see how hazy it is out there, too. it can create heavy downpours. the good news is, clear skies rn

look at saturday. sunny skies and with low humidity, barely comfortable out there. just looking good. current temperatures, we almost made it to 90. we're in the mid-to upper 80s. some areas have had a storm over them for the last 30 minutes or so. that's why the temperatures are down. it's rain-cooled. we're going to be in the 80s until we get some rain and then it will drop. look at the storms. nothing coming through the d.c. metro area. a few up towards baltimore. really, they are firing up east of the blue ridge mountains which is where theç watch begi. we're not seeing too much lightning right there but we can have some storms moving east at 30, 40 miles an hour. so for the rest of the day, temperatures fall. we end up in the 60s with clearing skies and, of course, we'll get rid of the muggy conditions out

frederick, maryland. a woman from this neighborhood is in jail in gam bee yeah in west africa. her family is worried about her. she's been behind bars since april. she was visiting family when all of this started. her husband says she was simply on her way to the bank near a big anti-government protest that had erupted when she was arrested. now she's charged with rioting and unlawful assembly. her husband here in frederick and two daughters ages 12 and 17 haven't been able to communicate with her. they are demanding for her release and have even protested at the white house. they tell us that she did nothing wrong. >> they just haul anybody inside, threw them into trucks and she was just coming from a bank, coming to the house,ç wa picked up
