going? chris gordon is live at the bay bridge with the latest on our traffic situation. chris? >> reporter: right now, there are traffic delays for people heading out of the washington area on the bay bridge. eastbound traffic is backed up 2 1/2 miles before the toll booth. three lanes on the bay bridge are for traffic heading east to the beach. two lanes carrying westbound traffic. the pattern will be reversed on monday traffic on the bridge is heavy, slow and sometimes comes to a complete stop. >> it's slow and steady. >> reporter: dawn and her neighbor hit the growth from gaithersburg with their teens earlier in the day. what would you say for people waiting to go this evening? >> you shouldn't wait. get an early ta

museum for free. >> and facebook and twitter will go with the #howwe4th. we'll be showing them on air and online all weekend long. staying on top of breaking news right now at the live desk. as many as 40 hostages taken at the capital of bangladesh. we're told as many as nine gunmen stormed a restaurant, a place where many foreigners would be. security forces quickly engaged the gunmen and so far four police officers have been killed. what's not clear is the state of the people inside the restaurant. security forces say they are trying to negotiate with the gunman and an isis-affiliated news agency says the terrorist group is taking responsibility for the attack. the state department can't confirm those reports but can tell you

the american troops there are accounted. we don't know if there were american citizens inside that restaurant. we'll have updates as soon as they come in. back to you, wendy. >> thanks, scott. he's been arrested for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old student but he's still on the run after a federal judge in florida released him. news4's mark segraves broke this story on twitter. >> alan coleman was supposed to be extradited last month but that's not happened and two months after his arrest he's still in florida out on bond. alan coleman was arrested in gainesville, florida, last month. he was wanted by d.c. police for having sex with a 14-year-old girl who was hisç student at a acam me in southeast. police records

told police coleman would have him dress up in a purple wig and schoolgirl outfit and take pictures of her and have sex with her. a search warrant shows that coleman continued to have a sexual relationship with the teen for five years. he left his job at kipp d.c. shortly after he started having sex with her. both schools notified parents of the allegations after coleman was arrested last month. in a letter to parents, the founder of kipp academy says they are cooperating with the police investigation. the charter school principal told parents once they learned of the allegation, coleman was suspended and then fired. there's no indication that there were any victims at the capital city charter school. after being fired from his school in d.c., coleman moved to gainesville, flori

worked as a high school teacher and tennis coach. he was placed on leave from that job after his arrest last month. he was to be extradited to face the charges but a federal judge in florida released him. now, according to court records from florida, the judge released coleman on a $50,000 bond and he's required to wear a monitoring device but it remains unclear when he'll have to return to face the charges in d.c. because the judge hasn't set a hearing date. so until that happens and when coleman is notified of that date, he can remain free on bond. >> this is unbelievable. how was he getting hired if the allegations date back to '04? >> because even until today, he has a clean police record. he's only been charged and arrested. he hasn't even had his first court hearing and

even if i ran the database, it comes up as a clean record because he hasn't been convicted. if you did a background check on him, he would come back clean. >> mark, thank you for bringing us that story. one of the few options that the prince george's county has for fresh food won't be there come morning. the safeway is closing, increasing the anger of the fooç desert. our tracee wilkins is there. >> reporter: this also shows you how difficult this is. you can see inside safeway and the food options, please who live in this community say that has not been the case and because of that they did not continue to shop here. safeway lost a lot of money. they were hoping for a lot of money but what happened insteads is a cle.

tornado killed close to 100. developing right now, a former high-ranking d.c. official is facing prison time. he was charged in a tax evasion case. federal prosecutors have charged him with making a false statement to the irs, underreporting his earnings in 2009 by nearly 250,000. if he's convicted of that charge, graves would face up to three years in prison. when contacted by news4, no comment by graves or his lawyer. he's expected in court in the coming weeks. the nation's top prosecutor weighing in again on the controversy surrounding her role in the ongoing fbi investigation into hillary clinton. the fbi is looking into the presidential candidate's use of a personal e-mail account during her time as secretary of state. today, loretta lynch said she realizes her recent private meeting with former president bill clinton has, quote, castç shadow over the public

neutral in that investigation. she reiterated her position that the meeting didn't compromise the integrity of the probe. >> it's important to make it clear that that meeting doesn't have a bearing on how this matter will be reviewed, resolved and accepted by me. >> lynch said she and the former president mostly talked about his grandchildren during their impromptu meeting on monday. they chatted on her plane after running into each other at the airport in phoenix. the media and public should have an easier time gaining access to government information. today, president obama signed a bill that includes major reforms to the freedom and information act. this will cause most records to be public, not private. it creates a central website for people to submit requests. finally, agencies will be expected to proactively release documents of public interest before the requests are made.

♪ stand by me. all right. we've talked about rough weather moving in. how close is it to d.c., amelia? >> here's the latest of the severe thunderstorm in culpeper county moving towards fauquier. concern for lots of rain and lightning and strong, gusty winds which could lead to wind damage. you can see the bright colors here. very heavy rainfall. it's moving towards the east. aside from that, very quiet and active as we look up towards the north. parts of new york under a tornado watch. new jersey, under a severe thunderstorm watch.

that's until 10:00 p.m. this evening but i weather service will drop the watch before it's set to expire. not very impressed with what i am seeing right now. certainly notç helpful if you' trying to get out of town. as we look at parts of the metro area, you can see rain inside of the beltway. heavier rain pushing in to arlington and parts of the district within the next 30 minutes. bowie, you'll get rain in 20 to 30 minutes as well. severe thunderstorm watch until 10:00 p.m. this evening. weather alert day here, big concerns would be heavy rainfall and gusty winds. heat index right now showing how muggy it is. it's feeling about 90 degrees in washington and leesburg. 93 in manassas. humidity shot up today. good news as we head into the evening and overnight hours as the threat of rain comes to an end around 8:00, 9:00 p.m. the humidity diminishes and clouds move out.

as we move towards 9:00, 10:00, mid-70s. really nice at this point. and then moving off to the east, maybe scattered showers until 8:00, 9:00. it's not a widespread, severe evening at least in our area. good news there. tomorrow, sunday, two beautiful days. plenty of sunshine and low humidity. high of 86. we start off with 68 degrees and sunday is looking nice, not too hot. by the time fireworks get under way, potentially dry. here's your fourth of july planner. 8:00 a.m., 67. it's humid and cloudy. rain moves in around 8:00 p.m. we could pick up 1 to 4 inches of rain. on tuesday, still a chance for lingering showers and a thunderstorm and a high of 84.

the fourth of july travel rush is on. weekend. many travelers are headed over the bay bridge. chris gordon will have a live report. a woman has been behind bars since april after getting mixed up in a government protest. news4 talks to her family who says this is all one misunderstanding. and a police cruiser hitting a man who is walking across the street. first up now at 5:30, fairfax county police have released the dash cam video that shows that accident today. >> they released it because they promised more transparency. julie carey looked at that video and reveals how it fits with what police said about the accident.

julie? >> reporter: well, the victim sports bar in the kingstown area. he was walking home on a stormy night when he was struck and killed by a police cruiser. the video released today that i watched confirms what police have said about this incident. the groups that have been pushing for more transparency would like to see more. we're not going to show you that video in its entirety because of the graphic nature. a gofund me page raised $26,000 for jeff aguilar, described as a young man with a heart of gold. the fairfax county officer who struck and killed him did not bear any responsibility, calling it an unfortunate accident. the video released today on youtube seems to bear that out. there is poor visibility as the officer turns on to the street and the light ahead is green. he has the right-of-way when suddenly theç victim is in his

path. happened, the officer stopped, immediately exited, called for an ambulance and rendered medical aid. >> reporter: after a failure to reveal details about the 2013 shooting of john gear led to years of criticism. the release of a sensitive video will be made on a case by case basis. in this instance, both the victim's family and officer were offered a chance to see it first. >> we don't want to offend anyone but we don't want to be seen as withholding anything either. >> reporter: the group northern virginia copblock has been one of the department's harshest critics. >> i really wish that they keep going this way and increase the amount of transparency and maybe

one of the safety cameras, you're going to get a ticket. mounted cameras and record vehicles that pass them and the fine is $250 in virginia. chopper 4 is over a house fire and when crews got to the scene in landover, they saw the flames spreading to the roof. this is after firefighters put the flames out. no one was inside at the time. crews are trying to determine the cause. as congress battles over a funding bill in the fight against the zikaç virus, the c is awarding money to state and local facilities. this includes 1.3 million for departments in the districts of maryland and west virginia. the cdc says at this point there have been no local transmission of zika in the continental united states.

all right. this is one of my favorite stories of the day. a local grandmother is using her love for tennis to support the troops. >> she usually plays once a week but after months of training and preparation, this weekend, tennis is all she's going to do. >> and she will be a world record holder if she accomplishes her goal. >> reporter: you may have heard someone being called the world's best gram. bonnie may get the official title this weekend. she's attempting to break the guinness book of world records for consecutive tennis single matches. the record right now is 36 in a row. she played in her first match this morning and plans on plays one after another continuously until monday morning. a 72-hour marathon with only a five-minute break each hour.

>> go off.ç we have thunderstormni 6:30 and i believe the threat will end a little earlier. of course, people are heading out of town and getting ready for the holiday weekend. we want to prepare you for it in terms of the weather. now let's show what you is going on right now. storms are firing up. this is ahead of a cold front entering west virginia. with the humidity we had out there, the moist air mass, we see heavy downpours as well. really, this is the line of storms that we're watching going through washington. taking that washington split right there and then up towards baltimore and anne arundel county. the area outlined in orange is where that warning is. lakeshore, you'll continue to see it. it will move out to the bay and off to the eastern shore. just north of 50th in the bay bridge, thank goodness. we'll head south now. we also have had a severe

thunderstorm warning until 5:45 we're not seeing it pop up in the orange. lots of heavy rain and it's not moving. we'll have to watch for flooding concerns. it's not going to be widespread. tornado watches up through new york. for the most part, a very scattered storm in virginia beach earlier but not too bad here in the d.c. metro area. storms around this evening, overnight, dropping humidity, looking gorgeous tomorrow. we're going to have plenty of sunshine out there for tomorrow. current temperatures, we made it to near 90. didn't get to the 90-degree mark but close and it probably felt like it with the humidity. temperatures in the 80s across the board and some areas in the 70s but all in all, in the 60s tonight. a gradual slip into the 60s. i do believe that the front will be out of here. 5:00, storms are right around here.

i-95 over the next 15, 20 minutes or so and scoot up. a few lingering showers and here and there. the severe thunderstorm watch goes until 10:00 p.m. look at the clearing overnight. that sets us up with plenty of sunshine. the good thing about tomorrow, humidity. great pool day and sunday is not looking too bad either. it's not going to be too hot. there are rain showers south of i-66 in virginia, closer to central virginia. most of usç will stay dry and there's a chance south of the d.c. metro area. and then everybody is going to have that for the fourth of july. we're going to see some rain and heavy rain on the fourth and it could be out of here before the fireworks start just after 9:00. we'll have to watch for heavy rain. 1 to 4 inches of rain on monday. a lot of rain.

jail e kristin wright spoke to her worried family members today. >> reporter: she's sitting in jail in west africa. this is her leaving court getting on a bus headed to one of the most notorious prisons. she's charged with rioting and unlawful assembly and stuck in jail since april. her husband and two daughters in frederick have had no communication with her for more than two months. >> very, very difficult. >> reporter: she was arrested during a violent protest against gambia's dictator. her family says she wasn't even part of the demonstration. >> they just hauled everybody inside and threw them into trucks. >> reporter: they say her detention is political. her uncle is a leader of the opposition party. they say, "we are extremely concerned about her continued incarceration and call for her
