terms of amounts of rain, also changes for your sunday. a lot cooler than expected. those temperatures coming up in a few minutes. guys? >> lauren, thank you so much. developing southeast d.c., a man is dead after he was shot multiple timance, police say, on 18th street, just after midnight. the man was taken to the hospital where he later died. they are still looking for a suspect in this homicide. and a situation in bangladesh, 20 officers, killed in a popular restaurant in the capital city of dhaka. commandos stormed the building following a ten-hour standoff that began friday night. more than a dozen hostages rescued including some foreigners. isis claims responsibility fomp the attack but the claim has not been confirmed. another kafcafe attack in serbia. five killed in a town 30 miles northwest of belad

loretta lynch and bill clinton. many are speculating the meeting was about clinton's use of a private server during her tenure at secretary of state. lynch addressed those claims. >> the integrity of the department of justice is most important to me and the fact the meeting i had it casting a shadow over how people view that work is something i take seriously and deeply and painfully. >> lynch and clinton met on her plane in phoenix for about 30 minutes and she says he talked about grandchildren and golf. today's meeting with the fbi could take place at the clintons' home here in d.c. it's being called the most progressive potential platform in the democratic party's history. a draft released ahead of the meeting in florida next week. the platform is a statement of the party's values, highlights the death penalty saying that it should be abolished and no bank can be too big to fail. it then will be considered later this month at the democratic national convention in

donald trump is expected to meet with one of his potential running mates this weekend. nbc news has learned that indiana governor mike pence will travel to talk with trump. newt gingrich and new jersey governor chris christie are also being formally vetted as possible vp candidates. trump doesn't expect to announce his pick until the convention, which starts in 17 days. it appears the democratic party will call for d.c. statehood at its convention. calling for people in the district to have full congressional rights and d.c. to be able to make its own laws and budget without congressional interference. hillary clinton is on record as being in favor of d.c. statehood. donald trump told the "the washington post" in march he had no position on the issue. and remember this fireball at the metro station back in may.

welcome back. passengers recorded a strange sight on a delta air lines flight headed to westchester county when a fog-like substance filled the cabin friday night. airline officials say it was caused by haze from condensation, because there wa high humidity in the area and the cabin was cool. they say passengers were never in danger and the plane landed safely. this morning an 8-year-old maryland boy is still fighting for his life in a hospital on staten island. he was airlifted from a royal caribbean cruise ship on thursday night. the boy fell into one of the ship's pools and was under water for eight to ten minutes before getting pulled out. the ship left bay on new jersey and was heading to bermuda when that accident happened. you'll have to wait a little longer to become aeg

well, you can hear visitors scream at busch gardens in tampa when an orangutan, look at her, escaped her enclosure. you see her climb up on a park sign as the onlookers watch in awe. some probably in terror. that orangutan is now back in her enclosure after the animal was tranquilized. a few weeks ago, another orangutan there also escaped his habitat. >> wow. well, caught on camera, texas police chase add 12-year-old, get this, after she stole her grandmother's car for a joyride. she allegedly stoled car from her 88 grandmother to go visit her boyfriend -- did they say

few minutes. >> thank you very much, lauren. well, a bolt of lightning hit the maryland state house friday night during the strong storms that passed through. look at that. governor larry hogan posted these photos on facebook showing a water mist coming off the top of the building there. our news partners say the annapolis fire department responded to what was reported as a fire. turns out the sprinkler service went off after lightning struck the building. one prince george's community is losing its major grocery story today. the safeway will close in an area already considered a food desert because there are no grocery chains. county officials tell news 4 they are already in talks with new retailers moving into the area. that safeway location has lost money for years. community leaders say they know why. >> there wa not been even a paint job inside the store. people shop in the store that looks presentable, that is clean.

a bit of d.c. history, a third generation daughter precious helps run the stand. >> i go two more and a grandson. so -- you know, i'm ready to pass the baton when they're ready to take it. they have to move the cars, have a 25-foot distance in there. >> reporter: many of the rules for fireworks stands have to do with keeping ignition sources away from the merchandise. everything sold has to be legal to use in d.c. in general, fireworks that explode, like cherry bombs and roman candles are forbidden. >> all the right products. no illegal fireworks. all this is good to sell in the district of columbia. >> reporter: earlier in the week, d.c. fire marshals laid out a display showing which fireworks get you a green light and which a citation if you're caught with them. all have the potential to cause harm. >> the only one day of the year that we put a sparkler, which goes to 1200 degrees, in a small child's hand. >> jackie b

planning to enjoy the fourth of july on the national mall monday, prepare for a lot of road closures. everything around the mall including the arlington memorial bridge will be closed from 6:00 in the morning to around 11:00 p.m. also closures along constitution and pennsylvania avenues for the parade that begins at noon. security is, of course, a top priority. tens of thousands are expected to flood d.c. for this long holiday weekend, and expect a heavy police presence and city leaders also watching out for mother nature. >> we'll be monitoring the weather. it's been over 25 years since the last time there was a postponement or cancellation that is, of the fireworks and we don't look at doing one this year. >> montgomery county announced its fireworks shows in kensington and germantown could be moved to tuesday as well if the weather gets in the way on the 4th. if you still want to make plans for your family this holiday weekend, check out the nbc washington app. find professional fireworks shows near you in

and say, oh, yeah, it's that, it's that, it's that. >> reporter: now concern is growing over the state's rich and filed lyfe. the algae's full impact still unknown. >> dave gutierrez reporting there. fairfax county school superintendent will stay on the job for four more years. the school board voted to extend superintendent the contract through june of 2020. the chair says dr. garza is an agent of positive change for the district. during her tenure, salaries increased, class sizes reduced and class times are later. and a new law in effect in virginia. people who want to sell or transfer guns at a gun show can request a criminal background check of the buyer. state police will be available at every gun show to conduct those background checks. the governor touted the new state law and raled on congress for not keeping firearms out of the hands of terrts
