it. they say the man was with two friends when he stepped on something that blew up under his left foot. the bomb squad said it was probably placed there by someone experimenting with homemade fireworks. >> this is the time of year when typically we will see experimentation. their goal is to make a loud noise, a flash. we are not finding anything consistent with a constructed ied. there's nothing to indicate that this was an explosive device that was put in this area with the specific intent to harm any individual. now, the explosive material was likely in the park for a day, at least a day. police are canvassing central park, looking for surveillance video and more witnesses. they say this is not

news4 has team coverage on the fourth of july, it includes a fireworks, concert, and sober ride. but we want to start in the storm center with emilia draper breaking down the forecast. >> unfortunately, the weather not cooperating. i can easily tell you you'll be dealing with rain tomorrow, but nailing down the exact timing still remains çtricky. here's the latest right now on storm team 4 radar. completely dry. not the case in parts of the d.c. metro area, northern virginia. we'll have showers at times for the evening and overnight hours. future weather wants to bring in some dry air around 8:00, 9:00 p.m. another batch of rain for tomorrow morning. this is the fourth at 7:00 a.m. notice showers already across the area. we'll then continue to track rain throughout the day. temps this evening are in the 60s. tt

two alligators may have been involved in the deadly attack of a toddler at disney world. the boy's father was attacked by a second gator while he was trying to save this child from the first. fire officials say the father refused to stop looking for his son, even though he himself needed medical attention. florida wildlife officials say 15 alligators have been caught on disney property this year alone. president obama said elie weisel accomplished more than most people in traditional positions of power. the form eer director of the anti-defamation league was among those who me moralized weisel, and abraham foxman said the author's impact went far beyond the words in his memoir. >> the world

when it comes to drinking and driving, the fourth of july is the deadliest day of the ç year. traffic deaths skyrocket on the holiday. derrick ward is looking into how taxi cpanies are teaming up to offer free rides home. it's the holiday associated with cookouts and fireworks, but the fourth of july also has a more dubious distinction. it's not about fires or burn injuries either. >> it's the most dangerous day of the year for traffic fatalities overall, including alcohol-related traffic fatalities, it's the deadliest day of the year. >> there are lots of theories as to why this is the case, but the bottom line is the statistics bear it out. >> 41% of all traf

the afternoon and evening hours. there will be pockets of dry time with scattered rain and thunderstorms in the forecast. here we are at 2:00 p.m., notice cloudy skies, d.c. metro area may be catching a break from the rain. not the case, though, in northern virginia. notice the bright colors here on future weather. that's some heavier rain impacting the d.c. metro area around 3:00 p.m. as we head into the evening hours, still tracking scattered rain and thunderstorms across the area. approaching fireworks time. fortunately, rain still showing up. here we are, 9:00, fireworks set to get under way. notice areas of rain across the area. that trend continues until about 10:00 p.m. here's the latest planner for the fourth of july. this is still an evolving forecast. i'll have updates on news four at 11:00 tonight. here's what i'm thinking right now. 7:00 a.m., temps around 66 degrees. showers at that chance about a 60% chance of rain. around midday, about a 50% chance of rain. rain is likely in spots, and 72.
