attack. it was apparently timed to coincide with a july 4th celebration. five staff members and four security personnel were killed in an attack on the same cons e consula consulate. it came after a massive car bomb killed 167 and injured 185 in baghdad on sunday morning. it is the third terror attack in recent days and it follows last week's deadly massacre on istanbul's ataturk hospital. isis took immediate responsibility for the baghdad attack. the massacre occurred when iraqis, mostly shiites gathered in the evening to celebrate one of the last evenings of ramadan. isis has so far fulfilled its promise to ramp up attacks on the final days of ramadan. a virginia teen was seriously injured yesterday in a bizarre explosion in new york city's central park. police say

jumping off rocks in a park when he landed on a device that exploded. part of his leg had to be amputated. that blast put the most popular city on edge. investigators say the homemade fireworks do not appear to be related to terrorism and they do not believe the teen and his friend built the device. meanwhile, the 18-year-old remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition. it was a busy holiday weekend for the presumptive democratic candidate, hillary clinton and donald trump stirs up a tweet that is being called anti-semitic. >> reporter: hillary clinton trying to turn the page. her team hoping she'll be cleared of wrongdoing before she accepts the democratic nomination for president just weeks from now. charging ahead with vetting potent

this could be a vital week for the campaign, betty. the father of the little boy who was killed by an alligator last month in disney world told officials that two alligators were involves. matt gray said he was attacked by a second gator while trying to rescue the little boy. mr. gray needed stitches and antibiotics from bites he received. 2-year-old lane was dragged into the water while standing in the water just a few feet from the beach. his body was found 15 yards from the shore. a award winning author elie wiesel was found dead and died at the age of 87. the man known as a champion for human rights and tolerance. nbc has more. >> reporter: a community of mourners lifting elie wiesel's casket a

capitol. dallas, very hot and humid. and the hot weather across texas really is a sign of what's to come across the entire south. we're looking at a lot of heat building. temperatures will be in the mid-90s to atlanta, new orleans, even into florida. we're expecting that heat to stick around and grow with heat indexes that will be in the triple digits for some locations. so, watch out for temperatures that feel like 100 degrees in savannah. heat building in little rock, charleston, looking for hot weather to stick around all to next weekend. that's the national weather now here's a closer look at the day ahead. across the northeast, beautiful weather for the fourth of july. to the south that heat is building. temperatures are hot in texas, all the way to 100 degrees. so, betty, we are looking at that heat building all the way into next weekend. and it could be dangerous at times.

news 4. back to you in the studio. happy fourth of july. >> back to you. bring a poncho if you are heading to see the marching band and the parade on constitution avenue. it starts at 11:45 this morning. the parade route begins at 7th street and ends at 17th in northwest. so everything around the mall, including the arlington memorial bridge will be closed from 6:00 this morning until around 10:00 tonight. there will be closures along constitution and pennsylvania avenues for the parade. if you are taking metro, you won't have to deal with track word today. there will be crowds. the rail opens at 7:00 this morning and closes at midnight. trains are running on a saturday schedule until about 2:00 this afternoon and then they will ramp up to near rush hour service levels before and after the fireworks. because of the large crowds, you cannot bring bicycles or large coolers. metrobus runs on a saturday schedule as well, but expect detours around the national mall. if you plan on
