>> good morning. welcome to your fourth of july, everybody. you are up nice and early on the day so at least you are making the most of it. temperatures now are in the mid to upper 60s all across the area and there are not a whole lot of rain drops to deal with right now. there are scattered light showers here. northern montgomery county out to the panhandle of west virginia and a few rain drops around i-81. nothing heavy to our west. pockets of heavy rain from central, western virginia all the way to eastern kentucky. the back end of the rain is around 6:00 tonight. that's a close call for fireworks which will go around 9:00 this evening. rain chances will be on the way cooler than average side. we'll stay in the 70s. heaviest steadiest rain is noon until about 6:00. we'll break down the parade and nats forecast coming up in a

minutes. ♪ god bless america ♪ land that i love >> a preview for you of tonight's capitol fourth of july concert. the national mall will be filled with people celebrating our independence day. rain is a factor. security will be tight. news 4 molette green joins us live near the washington monument to let us know what to expect. >> reporter: you know what, on a day like this, looking at the flags that surround the washington monument are especially meaningful. we expect thousands of people to come on down and enjoy the day full of festivities, even with the threat of rain looming over the fireworks show tonight. when you come on down to the national mall, you should know there are eight access points. most of them opening at 10:00 this morning. a couple of them opening at 2:00 p.m. where visitors will get a

security always tight, especially with so much heightened awareness around large events and this one expected to be large as usual. for the big concert on the west side of the capital, that starts at 8:00 tonight. entry and security check start at 3:00 p.m., and they will be at third street northwest and pennsylvania avenue and also third street southwest and maryland avenue southwest. oh, yes, we're watching this rain. there's a light drizzle coming down right now. hoping we don't have to put off one of the largest firework shows set to start at 9:00. it hasn't happened in 25 years. we're keeping our fingers crossed and opening the festivities to go off without any problems. no rain, threatening to cancel. back to you guys. all right. watch out for plenty of road closures. look at the map here. everything around the mall, including the arlington memorial bridge, will be closed from 6:00

tonight. they will also be closures along constitution and pennsylvania avenues for the parade. and there is no track work on metro today but be ready for some crowded metro stations. metro rail is going to open at 7:00 this morning and close admit night. rains are running on a saturday schedule. they will ramp up to near rush hour service levels before and after the firework. because of large crowds, you cannot bring bike or large coolers. metrobus run on a saturday schedule too. expect detours around the national mall. if you are drinking, there are freeways to get home safeu. sober rides is give you free cab rides from 10:00 until 4:00 a.m. the program is only as good as its use as we want people to use it. i would hate to think that anybody gets in a car after drinking that says they didn't know about the ro

we were in the park moments later as connor was rush to the hospital. police are trying to figure out what caused the blast. they say it did not appear to be a bomb or terror-related. they are calling it a homemade explosive material, possibly a firework. they believe it was not designed to hurt anyone. police k 9s and bomb squad called to investigate. his grandmother says he's an eagle scout, honor student, a musician, and a member of the school chorus. police believe the explosive material had been in the park for at least a day. they are looking for whoever may have placed it there. once again, they don't believe it was meant to harm anyone. the search continues this morning for a man who tried to sexually assault a woman in northwest washington. investigators say he came up to the woman in mount pleasant around 2:30su

place and got away before anything happened. another break through into the investigation of egypt air flight 804. new this morning, reports say the victims of the plane crash have been recovered from the mediterranean. the flash crashed -- the flight crashed two months ago flying from paris to cairo. it's not clear if all 66 people's bodies were on board. egyptian investigators found both black boxes from the plane. they are still working out to figure out what exactly caused the crash. >> people in bangladesh are mourning those killed in the hostage crisis in cafe in the country's capital on friday. a makeshift memorial was set up near the cafe. security officials were questioning some of those who were rescued as they look for information on the possible master minds here. isis has claimed responsibility but the government has

a group calling for gun safety legislation will welcome congress back tomorrow with a march demanding action. d.c. mom and dads for rational gun safety legislation was formed after the attack in orlando and the sit-in that followed in congress. their demands include universal background checks for gun sales. that march will begin tomorrow morning at 8:15. we've learned the name of a man who died in a serious crash in the district. d.c. police say vincent king was killed when he crashed his mercedes on georgia avenue saturday night. the crash happened in the 2500 block near howard university. according to police, king's car hit a ford f-150 pickup truck and jumped the curb, hit a hydrant and flipped. police say speed was a factor in the crash but that's still under investigation. crews continue balingsing a series of wild fires in central california. the massive flames are
