downpours is not going to affect the crowd. and a fairfax county teenager seriously wounded in an explosion in new york city park. now what is being said about that blast. let's start with lauryn ricketts. >> reporter: we just saw that live shot and it's coming down. >> it's coming down. right through d.c. and points to the north and east. but the good news is, we're getting a little bit of clearing to the south and west. so let's go ahead and get to the radar and let you know whether you can see the fireworks tonight. you can see, the back edge of that rain is now pushing to the north and east and moving through our area. look at this. we just have light showers out there. a little bit of drizzle as we continue through the evening. we are seeing sunshineak

weather. >> reporter: the national weather service is hoping that the much-anticipated event will kick off at 9:09 like it always does. if the weather doesn't cooperate, they may have to make a last-minute decision to delay or reschedule the show for tomorrow. >> not a formula, you know, that it looks like we can get it off within a reasonable amount of time, we would make that. >> reporter: now, the national park service says it's been two decades that they've had to cancel the show and they hope it's not something they have to do but we'll tell you later about the determining factors that they consider as far as whether or not they will cancel the show or if it will go on. officials have canceled local fireworks show. in prince george's county, they will postpone until tomorrow night and in montgomery, they've pushed it back until friday. the

news conference a short time ago. let's go to news4's darcy spencer with the details. >> this was a devastating injury. we just heard from new york city police that they are working to find out what materials were used to make that explosive. it's been sent to a lab. results, they say, are expected by the close of business on wednesday. 18-year-old connor golden suffered a traumatic leg injury and jumped off a rock in central park and landed on that material and that's when it exploded. he was taken to the hospital where part of his leg had to be amputated. connor and his friends were in new york for the holiday. authorities say these young men had nothing to do with the explosives and it appears that they had been there for at least a day and it was not connected to terrorism. it's something that could be made. >> what seems likely, at this oi

the overnight. we could even have flash flooding and fog around and rain as you make your way back to work but we'll clear by tomorrow evening and then hello humidity and heatwave. we're heading into the 90s. possibly the first heatwave of 2016. there's the leading edge of rain pushing through the region and it will continue to lift towards the north and east. you will be the last to see it arrive and the last to see it go as it moves to the north and east. spotty showers out to the west. there's the heavy cell that came through d.c. but just light stuff. again, plenty of clouds with a little bit of clearing, especially through the shenandoah valley, right in there. that's where we could have a few thunderstorms as we get sunshine and increased instability. coming through kentucky and into west virginia, this is our next batch of rain. that will move in during the overnight hours. again, we could have flooding. we're talking about a lot of rain. we have a lot of humidity out

there. could create torrential downpours. it's going to be muggy and foggy. temperatures are staying put in the 60s. if you get sunshine between now and the time the fireworks go off at 9:00, there could be storms which i think will be to the west. if you're grilling out, not looking too bad. once we get to around dinnertime, temperatures in the low 70s and it's going to be muggy and foggy out there. for the next 12 hours, we're looking at isolated storms. fog arrives south of there but it could stay and continue through the overnight and we'll have to watch for that flash flooding threat. all right. 7:00, you can see we're looking good across the region. maybe a few storms. otherwise, spotty, light rain. we continued until 1:00 on tuesday. rain showers in the morning and then we clear out during the afternoon.

now at 4:30, it's going to be a last-minute call for the national mall as people wait for tonight's fireworks. some local shows in college park and gaithersburg, they have already been canceled. and new york city police are working to find out what materials were used to make that ex pros sif that caused a fairfax teen, connor golden, to lose part of his leg. what police are learning about where and how they were made.

and we're watching the rain move out of here. it's going to be a humid night and on the foggy side. here's that back edge of the precipitation moving towards the north and east. we're seeing spotty rain showers now across the storm team 4 radar. if you get sunshine, which i think is going to be through the central shenandoah valley, that's where we'll have a chance for some thunderstorms. sunshine, not necessarily a good thing as we continue through this fourth of july. got to get your festivities in without worried about any lightning. however, most of that lightning is far away from our area. the next system is in kentucky and we have lightning and thunderstorms overnight. again, that rain is lifting to the north and east and moving out of here. i think we'd be able to get the fireworks in. temperatures right now in the low 70s and that's where we'll stay throughout the remainder of the evening and we're into the 90s.

a man was found shot along first street and died a short time later. the victim's mother tells jewel julie carey that she believes her son's death is connected with another shooting. we'll have more at 5:00. there was another shooting at 18th and monroe. a few hours later, john williams iii was shot and then last night, omar lindsey was killed at third and b. police haven't made any arrest in those shootings. tomorrow morning, some local parents will be marching to the capitol to push for change for gun safety legislation. their march will start at d.c.'s lincoln park just after

tuesday morning. fairfax county has cleared more than 27,000 illegal signs along roads. the people who put them there are getting the bill. some for more than a thousand dollars. owners can be fined $100 for each sign. >> just to a minder, starting tomorrow, new metro construction will affect people using a park and ride in herndon. they will be doing utility work to make room for the silver line. buses that normally use those areas will be posting signs to alert riders on where to find them. when it comes to traffic deaths, did you know that the fourth of july is the single deadliest day of the

who knew the kenny chesney crowd would be this rowdy. police say it was mostly for intoxication and the injuries were mostly related to drinking. crews had to clean up more than 40 tons of garbage. this concert left behind 30 tons of trash and 70 arrests in pittsburgh three years ago. it comes to our area on august 18th. a woman from northern virginia is now a guinness world record holder. this weekend, she broke the weekend for consecutive single tennis matches. she played 38 in a row continuously over the last three days. she did not take longer than a five-minute break in between. she says she was not planning to win many of her matches. she was simply focused on

muslims are celebrating the end of ramadan. suicide bombers set off explosives in medina, outside of one of the most holiest sites. isis is responsible for killing nearly 200 people in a shopping district. bill neely has more. >> reporter: saudi arabia has been hit by three suicide attacksin

in the latest, a television network is reporting that a suicide bomber detonated his device targeting security officers near the prophet's mosque in medina killing at least two policemen. that's the second holiest sites in islam, a place visited by millions of muslims every year. this is the start of the festival, the end of the holy month of ramadan. two explosions occurred in the highest concentration of shia mu muslims and isis has attacked there in the past. earlier this morning, what looks like an

we have rain for a good portion of the day. rain north of d.c. but, don't worry, hopefully we get it before the sunset. it is foggy, gray fourth of july. light rain and drizzle. area of low pressure moving out of kentucky which will bring us rain and storms overnight. after midnight and in through the first part of tomorrow, now, some of those could bring heavy downpours. we're going to have to watch for flooding overnight. when you wake up tomorrow morning and head back to work, we could have some. we're going to clear by tomorrow afternoon and get sunshine. we start the heat. oh, boy, in the 90s wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday and maybe even on sunday. here's a look at the radar. isolated light stuff through virginia and going up through northern virginia. if we get sunshine, you can see it breaking out down

a 3-year-old boy died after falling out of an apartment building in new york city yesterday evening. paramedics were able to revive the toddler and rushed to the hospital but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries later that night. investigators are looking into whether the windows would improperly secure. there is more evidence about the alligator that took the life of a 2-year-old last month. the boy's father told police a second alligator attacked him while he was trying to save his little boy. gabe gutierrez reports. >> reporter: chilling new details about the horrific attack at disney world. according to public records obtained, the father of lane graves told authorities he was attacked by a second alligator while trying to save his son. in an e-mail, the captain said that m
