returns to work for the first time since the historic democratic sit-in for gun legislation. the group will hold a rally this morning and walk from lincoln park in southeast to the capitol building. they're asking for universal background checks. a prince george's county ice cream truck driver is in critical condition after being shot during an attempted robbery. police say he was returning his truck around 5:30 yesterday afternoon when he was shot several times. other ice cream truck operators say they have long complained that the lot needs better security. >> we were expecting something like this to happen because actually the security system here is very poor. with the way people are playing with money. everybody knows vendors go out there and at the end of the day have a little cash. we're learning more details this morning about an explosion that serious

gray. he faces involuntary manslaughter. two other officers in the case have been acquitted. another trial ended with a hung jury. gray died a year ago after a neck injury while in police custody. in the race for the white house, north carolina will be the center of presidential politics today. donald trump will hold a rally in raleigh. later tonight nbc news has learned he'll be joined by tennessee senator bob corker. this comes after trump met with several potential running mates over the last few days. about three hours south of raleigh in charlotte, president obama and hillary clinton will campaign together. nbc's edward lawrence will have more on both candidates' events today in just a few minutes. today, a loudoun county democrat will push a resolution getting opposition from some county republicans.

good morning. i'm mollet green at the live desk. news on the break news from the deanwood neighborhood. a man is in the hospital after police confirm a police-involved shooting that happened at 11:00 last night in the 1300 block of 49th street. police say they responded there to that location for a report of suspicious activity. when they arrived, they found a male with a gun. officers fired on the man. the man was hit. his condition unknown at this time. the officer who fired not hurt. our darcy spencer on the way there and will bring us more later. aaron? >> that video causing a lot of questions right now. a father and son will have to answer to the faa after they posted this video of a

luckily there were no injuries and the fire marshal is investigating what happened. back to you. another scary scene. this one in kentucky. six people were hurt when fireworks fell over during the show on sunday night. instead of shooting off in the air, they fired off into the crowd. firefighters in prince george's county hope a crash involving one of their fire trucks can teach everyone a lesson. the car hit a truck while it was responding to a crash. the firefighters had just gotten back into their unit when the car crashed into them. firefighters say the truck's position protected police officers who were still working at the crash scene. it is a reminder of how important the move-over law is. >> we hope citizens can
