coming up on "early today," breaking overnight, a new police involved shooting overnight that was almost fully captured on facebook live. and then to baton rouge involving the police sheeting of alton sterling. that and donald trump and hillary clinton over e-mails. and the packet of severe weather. a busy thursday ahead on all fronts. "early today" starts right now. good morning, everybody. and thanks for waking up with us today. i'm betty nguyen. the u.s. justice department will lead an investigation into the death of 37-year-old alton sterling. he was shot multiple times. now, last night several

people gathered outside the store where sterling was killed and in philadelphia they marched. dozens were arrested. there are now two angles of the shooting in circulation. one shot by the store's owner who says he believes alton sterling was murdered. nbc's gabe gutierrez has the disturbing images. >> reporter: in this newly released cell phone video, a closer look at the final moments of alton sterling's life. baton rouge police say early tuesday morning a 911 caller said someone matching sterling's description had threatened him with a gun outside a convenience store. police say when two officers arrived, they confronted sterling. this first eyewitness video showing the officers tackling

ground. seconds later, gunshots. this other cell phone video was shot by the store's owner. at one point one of the officers yells, he's got a gun. was he acting in anyway aggressive toward these officers? >> he just warranted to know what's going on, why are they coming to arrested him. >> reporter: he said sterling had sold cds outside for years and had recently started carrying a gun for protection. these up close stills of an officer pulling an unidentified on jekt from sterling's pocket. it's not clear that is. it's also not clear what happened before the camera start recording. >> the individuals involved in his murder took away a man with children. >> quinn eta mcmillan was the mother of their 15-year-old son who could not

press conference. >> i for one will not rest and will not allow y'all to sweep him in the dirt. >> reporter: less than 36 hours after the incident, the governor announced the department of justice's civil rights division would lead the investigation. and there is breaking news on another fatal officer-involved shooting. this one happened last night near minneapolis. authorities say police were conducting a traffic stop when the officer fired at least one shot at the vehicle. a woman was drived. we should warn viewers this video is graphic and disturbing. >> stay with me. we got pulled over for a busted taillight in the back and the police, he's -- he's -- he killed my boyfriend. he's licensed to carry. he was trying to

i.d. and his wallet out of his pocket and he let the officer know that he was -- he had a firearm and he was reaching for an officer and the officer just shot him in the arm -- he just shot his arm off. we got pulled over on larpener. >> i told him not to reach his -- >> you tould him to get his i.d. oh, my god, please don't tell me he's dead. please don't tell me my boyfriend went like that. >> keep your hands where they are. >> yes, i'll keep them where they are. please, jesus, don't tell me that he's gone. >> that's tough to watch. officers performed cpr. the man was later pronounced dead. the chief for st. anthony's police department spoke about the shooting. >> during the stop

fired. one adult male was taken to the hospital. we have been informed that this individual is deceased. no one else was injured, and the bca has been called in to investigate this officer-involved shooting. a handgun was recovered from the scene. the bca will provide additional information as their investigation progresses. >> the man has been identified by family members at 32-year-old filando castille, a high school cafeteria worker. the officer who shot him is on leave pending investigation. james comey will face scrutiny on capitol hill tore. he'll testify on the fbi's recommendation not to pursue a prosecution against hillary clinton. in a statement committee chairman jason chaffetz says the

fbi's decision is surprising and confusing. congress and the american people have the right to understand the depth and breadth of the fbi's investigation. the clinton campaign has responded saying in part house republicans are launching yet another taxpayer sham of an inquiry to try to hurt hillary clinton politically. for weeks they trusted fbi director james comey to lead an independent review into hillary clinton's e-mails and now they're second-guessing his decision. they're accepting the fbi's recommendation to not bring charges against clinton and staff. the clinton campaign west coasted that news with spokesman brian fallon tweeting with the a.g. accepting director comey's recommendationses, this case is resolved. meanwhile newt gingrich introducedal
