and right now on news 4 today a deadly accident that ended in the potomac river. what we're learning about a crash interest that sent a car to the bottom of the river. another night of unrest as protesters clash with police. the march that ended with dozens of arrests and a busy interstate shut down for hours. and remembering the lives that were lost. how people in our area paid their respects to the five police officers killed in dallas. but first we're finally going to catch a break from all that humidity we've been having lately. that is certainly good news. i hope you are having a great start. i'm adam tuss. >> and i'm angie goff. yes, we're in for a refresher. tom kierein is here with the relief you'll notice as soon as you step outside. hey, tom. >> a sensational sunday morning. low humidity. right in the comfort zone. temperatures in the 70s. light breeze coming in from the north and west. high clouds are drifting gracefully over the

u.s. park police says the car was speeding down ohio drive when the driver lost control and then crashed into the water. going northbound on ohio drive right here and right at the turn around right behind me. just continue straight into the water. >> with you person was inside the car and was able to escape. another was taken -- that person was taken to the hospital. two other people died inside the car. a man has died after a shooting in northwest police. d.c. police say this happened on flager place 4:30 this morning. police told us when the vic was told to the hospital, was conscious and breathing. no word yet on a suspect. prince george's county police are investigating a homicide. this happened at about 10:15 last night.

when police arrived, they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. she was pronounced dead at the scene. police do have a suspect in custody and it appears to be a domestic situation. we're also working to get some more information on this motorcycle accident in derwood. it happened earlier this morning, after midnight. at schit 3 on shadygrove road. the accident partially blocked the ramp. police cleared the accident scene about 2 half hours later. we just learned 100 protesters were arrested after shutting down interstate 94 in st. paul, minnesota, for hours. police used smoke bombs to clear about 200 demonstrators from the roadway last night. the st. paul police department said several of its officers were hurt by rocks, fire crackers and other debris thrown by protesters. the protests were spark by the shooting death of two black men by white police officers last week. philando castile was shot in minnesota

and three people were arrested in louisiana during a protest for alton sterling. he was shot and killed during a video ped altercation with police officers tuesday night in baton rouge. police in riot gear also confiscated weapons from some protesters. the department of justice has opened an investigation into sterling's death. now to the tragedy in dallas, texas. police say that there has been an anonymous threat made against officers there and it comes three days after a gunman ambushed and killed five dallas police officers and the city continues to grieve. nbc's reports from dallas. in dallas, more tense moments, dallas police say they received an anonymous threat against their officers and spotted what they called a suspicious person running into a parking garage near police headquarters. officers sprang into action. moving the public and reporters away. after a chaotic two-hour search, police say they didn't find anyone. it happened just yards where

memorial for the five murdered police officers. all day saturday, they brought cards, candles and flowers. visible symbols of their support. >> these officers keep us safe in the community and, you know, we have to give thanks. >> just a few blocks away, investigators had the tough task of investigating the deaths of their own coworkers, their friends, their family. doing it on no sleep, little food and in a state of chok. >> it never felt that way. i never had a feeling like this that aches and it feels like a nightmare that i can't wake up from. >> police want to make sure micah johnson acted alone. they wanted to know when he started planning his attack, whether anyone knew about his plans and how he got his weapons. meanwhile, texas prepares for five funerals. transit officer brent thompson's body was taken to his hometown the family of dallas police officer patrick zamarripa called their murdered son a hero. >> he will help you any way. he would give you the last dollar in his pocket if you needed it. >> president obama says seeing how americans reacted to the

dallas massacre has griffin him -- given him hope. obama travels to dallas early this week. meanwhile, here in d.c., people gathered at the national law enforcement memorial to remember the dallas police officers killed. they read the names of each officer who was gunned down and bowed their heads for a moment of silence. we spoke to the co-founder, she said we need to see more positive images of police interacting with community. >> videos of officers playing football and basketball with the kids. that's something that's been going on for a while. what we want to try to do is show more of that. show more of the positive. >> leaders of the group said that they felt the need to do something positive to show support for police. later today, churches from around our area will gather for a rally remembering the lives lost in dallas and the recent

>> the country is a little fractured. which one of these candidates can give the idea that bring the country together. they feel they are most uniquely unfit to meet this moment, and even though the moment is going to force it. so, look, this is all coming right at the convention. conventions are interesting opportunities for both of them to at least not reintroduce themselves but to at least make their case of why they can be a unit fire. >> the president and the presidential candidates aside, though, when you look at the bigger picture and we talk about policy makers and public officials, this is something that you are going to address on the show. what can these leaders that are in the communities at the state level do to keep the tension from escalating into more violence? >> the fact of the matter is we're not -- it was interesting. i heard president obama say this and i thought he was right when he said this.

isn't 1968. there's no riots in baton rouge right now. there's no riots in dallas right now, there's not riots in st. paul. in the 60s, an incident could happen and it can spark -- he's right to say we're in a different place. we don't immediately want to resort to some sort of physical altercation. that there is an openness to say, okay, let's at least try to have a conversation. it's interesting, look, there's a million ideas that are offered on the show today. by the way, one of them that i found fascinating was former commissioner charles ramsey, he said -- i asked him about this issue. it seems if big city police departments are making changes and the smaller ones aren't, we need fewer police departments. the smaller ones, where training is uneven, that's all, it's uneven, there's too many forces that you need bigger, more professionalized forces. >> i thought that was an interesting point to make because it's something y

it doesn't mean less police. less individual departments which could help streamline things. >> i think they are all trying to figure out how to deal with these issues on these one-on-one bases. they have got the body cameras now. >> you have to have a higher baseline and the thing is that big departments have a high baseline. the idea that if you can't get a job as a police officer in a big city and yet you go right next door and you can get it? why is it? should there be two standards? should there be one standard? >> that's going to be an interesting take. chuck talking about how we can move forward from this and hopefully get closer to finding a solution. jam packed show coming at 10:30 a.m. you can see "meet the press" every sunday right after news 4. thanks, chuck. in the race for the white house, virginia is quickly becoming an important stop for both presidential candidates. donald trump will speak in virginia beach on monday, but his speech is not open to the public. the richmond
