police clashed with protesters, people who were protesting against the police killings of two recent -- of two recent police killings of black men. this was actually later in the night and we learned that 50 people were arrested when they tried to block a highway. only seven of them were from the area. for the most part, police saying that the daytime protests in baton rouge remained peaceful, and then we want to take you to memphis, where the i-40 bridge is reopened. this is after a black lives matter protest that blocked traffic for up to 4 hours. the demonstrations were supposed to move through downtown but then took a turn when people started jumping barriers and blocked the bridge. no one was arrested and there were no injuries reported. protests in our area this weekend did not lead to any arrests. there were four different events in our area in response to the shootings yesterday.

at the african-american civil war memorial, members and supporters of black lives matter group rallied before marching. at r if. k stadium demonstrator addressed police protesters. demonstrators gathered at a local restaurant to discuss necessary political change. the president is back on u.s. soil this morning. he cut short a trip overseas to be in dallas for an interfaith memorial service tomorrow. his advisers are briefing him this morning on the latest developments. five law enforcement officers were killed thursday night in an ambush at a peaceful protest at the officer-involved deaths. several officers were hurt. two of the wounded are out of the hospital this morning. >> suspect micah johnson may have been planning a larger scale attack. federal agents searched his home yesterday. david brown said they found enough explosive material to

texas. chief brown says agents also found a journal where the suspect seemed to keep a record of practice bomb detonations. the. dallas community is recovering from last week's attacks from prayers and songs. ♪ ♪ >> hundreds of people went to sunday service to hear bishop t.d. jake's words after a difficult week. they gave a standing ovation. they saw pictures of all the lives lost last week. mayor mike rawlings was in the front row there. he challenged the group to face the controversies head on. >> obviously, race is a big issue.

the flag at the white house is at half-staff in memory of the officers killed in dallas. gun control advocates say enough is enough and they are calling on lawmakers to take action and they are going to be rallying here at the white house later on this morning. we the people for sensible gun laws will call on congress to reinstate the assault weapons ban. they also want a ban on high capacity ammunition magazines and they are calling for universal background checks. that group gathering here at the white house. the rally expected to begin at 11:00 this morning. back to you in the studio. 911 service is back up and running in montgomery county. it was out for almost four hours overnight which meant you could not call police or firefighters in an emergency. montgomery says there was an it issue which has now been resolved. whe

closest police or fire station and call them. if you still hear a busy signal, that's what you should do. we anticipate protests today over the death of a mentally ill woman in fairfax county. natasha mckenna died last february. deputies tasered her multiple times as they attempted to move her from a cell at the fair are -- fairfax detention center. advocacy group plans to deliver a petition to the sheriff this morning demanding she fire all six deputies involved. in the past, she said her deputies showed restraint with a combative inmate. the d.c. department of public works will begin picking up trash an hour earlier at 6 a.m. the early collection will continue through friday. you are asked to put your items out at 6:30 the night before to make sure they are collected. five more athletes have stamped their tickets to rio.

take it easy out there. back to you. today, fellow police officers could take the stand in the trial of lieutenant brian rice. the baltimore police officer is the highest-ranking officer to stand trial in the death of freddie gray. he died of a broken neck after riding in the back a police transport van last year. two police officers have been acquitted. one of them has been called to testify in the rice case. officer william porter could also take the stand. his trial ended in a hung jury. police have a man in custody charge in the murder of his estranged wife in oxon hill. 40-year-old daron odom turned himself in on sunday. he faces murder charges in the shooting death of jamila odom. they found the victim in a car with several gunshots. she was pronounced dead at the scene. robert crosby

this morning charged in the death of a 62-year-old woman. when police arrived on the seen, they found le niece frederick . cros was her neighbor. >> senseless. just shows us that as a community we have to be more vigilant as neighbors. >> police say the preliminary investigation shows the motive was robbery. police believe speed may have played a role in a deadly car crash. this car went off the road and plunged into the potomac river sunday morning. three people were in the car. a driver and another passenger died. police are hoping the survivor help them figure out what happened. the governor of texas will seen a burn speis

third degree burns. scalding water burned governor greg abbott last week. he isn't in a wheelchair because of the burns. he used one since a tree fell on him in 1984 paralyzing him below the waist. in the race for the white house now, donald trump will speak in virginia beach today. his campaign says he will talk about veterans reform. new jersey governor chris christ christie, a potential running mate has been invited to appear with trump at that event. with one week before the republican national convention happens, the rnc will begin a two-day meeting charge with crafting the party's platform and key values. bernie sanders and hillary clinton will campaign tomorrow in new hampshire. this is where clinton could get sanders endorsement. it comes after sanders got a number of

democratic party's platform over the week. today, volunteers and veterans will begin restoring cemetery grounds. more than 400 landscaping professionals around the country work on the grounds. most of the landscapers are veterans themselves. the event is beauty fieing the sir moan for 24 years. according to the freelance star, people in the fredericksburg area are upset after they received notices that train tracks could run through their properties. the high speed rail would run from d.c. to richmond. part of a larger plan to build train service that can compete with cars and planes all the way to florida. tonight's meeting starts at 6:30 at fredericksburg christian high school. a prince george's county landmark is getting new management today. you can find out more about the future of the fort washington marina. it is currently

resources. they are handing it over to the national park service this year. they are holding a public meeting tonight at the accokeek public library. a new study shows concussion rates on the rise for teenagers, doctors found a 60% increase in concussions among teenagers between 2011 -- 2007 and 2014. 10 to 14 years old saw the largest increase. the cause of the concussions are unknown although doctors say head injuries from sports and other physical activities are more likely the main drivers. researchers suggest that kids who suck their thumbs or bite their nails are better-protected from developing allergies to dust mites, grass and other allergens.

a group of inmates breaking out of their cells to help a guard. take a look. the inmates noticed the armed guard loses consciousness. they start yelling, break out of their cell and banging on the door for help. turns out the guard was having a heart attack. the deputies rushed over and called 911. paramedics were able to help the guard. a rock star is in stable condition right now after he collapsed. aerosmith guitarist joe perry couldn't stay standingi

annandale. an argument preceded the shooting. it led to a s.w.a.t. stand-off between the suspect and police. three children were inside the home at the time of the shooting. they were not heard. atlanta braves player hector olivera will be back in our area for his trial. he is charge with assault and battery. he is on leave from major league baseball. in a few hour, faith leaders will call on the d.c. council to change the city's paid leave benefits. if the proposal goes through, d.c. workers could take up to 16 weeks off with pay to care for a new baby or sick relative. it would be one of the most generation programs in the country. there are concerns about its costs. so far the plan is to tax employers to cover the expense. here at the live desk, we want to take you out west where wild fires continue to rage on in califo

first though, north of l.a. take a look. this is a brush fire that is 20% contained. this after 2,000 people were forced to evacuate. we know that many of them allowed to return to their houses now. now, out in colorado, these two campers aarrested in connection with another fire that's already destroyed 300 acres and taken some homes and buildings along with it. officials say that these two poor poorly extinguished a fire. there are dozens of homes still in the fire's path. montgomery college will host an active shooter response training. there will be two sessions. first begins at 9:00 am. participants will learn difference between shelter in place and lockdown. they will also a.l.i.c.e., ri

dramatic video of a plane crash. both people survived when it went down into a lake last week. the pilot and his nine-year-old daughter were hurt. they only had minor injuries. this happened near orlando, florida. the pilot reported engine problems after taking off. two fishermen recorded this video and called 911 and rushed in to help. time for weather and traffic on the ones. we're talking about a beautiful start to our day. hope it lasts. what should we expect, tom. >> it's starting off just
