welcome back, everyone. this morning on "today food," a little bit of a spin on salad and we're using a grill. when megle starred on usa's hit show "suits," you can find her dishing out inspiration on yt

on her blog, the tig. megan, nice to see you. welcome back. >> thank you. >> we're making something unusual here. people don't think of this. we are talking about salad on the grill. let's start -- here's the ingredient panel. what do we need to know? >> really simple. we will do a nice grilled sallid, and you can do any sort of dressing you want, caesar or anything else. we will start with marinating the shrimp. all of the seasonings here. >> how long in advance do you do this? >> an hour in advance. you definitely want to put it in the fridge and let it marinate for a bit. >> before you cook the shrimp, what temperature do you like them to be at? >> don't put

on, it will make it tough. too . we'll pretend like the magic of tv. they've been marinating a bit. but then the lettuces. this is what i love. you can grill lettuce and it has the most amazing flavor. >> i've never heard of that. >> it holds up. you can grill radicchio, kale, whatever you want. half it length wise so it ends up still keeping that base on there. because ultimately you can end up holding it like a hand-held salad. you can take the creases out of the middle to create a bit of a boat to put our ingredients in. we'll put that there. >> very happy about grilling lettuce. >> exactly. do a little bit of olive oil, get them ready for the grill, a little bit of salt. and then we can take this with our shrimp over to the grill. >> we don't need tongs, i guess. >> just in case. >> let's do the shrimp

>> exactly. thank you. so you're going to let those gril >> you are going to let those grill, and at the same time on low heat, have your lettuce, olive oil side down and they will cook quickly, and you will get a nice char mark like this. >> this is what it will look like when you have them grilled for a while. you like croutons, and you have bread on the grill as well. >> we will end up pounding it down, so it's almost more like bread crumbs. >> i think we are good. >> so from our toasted bread, we will move your malut and get that smaller. little bit smaller. i think it is nice to make homemade breadcrumbs. >> can we look at our tasters for a second? carson, you like anything you can eat with your hands. >> taco

fun, too. it is great for kids as well. at a barbecue people have a hot dog or hamburger. people who don't want gluten, you can have a hand-held salad. we'll take some shrimp that's already been chopped a little bit. we can put some of that on there. >> you make sure you cut the tails off those. >> exactly. obviously they're peel and deveined. it makes this little boat shape so it is really easy to fill in. then we can give it a little squirt of lemon. we have two dressings, ball samac or caesar. you p. then a little sprinkle of breadcrumbs. yep. >> not a lot, right? >> no. exactly. especially if you're going to hold it. you don't want it spilling everywhere but still get all that good flavor. and if you'd rather, just use a fork and knife, you can do that, o. these look really good. >> they are really yummy. >> and easy. >> yeah, exactly. >> thank you.
