in dec. a firefighter recovering right now northeast. we went up in flames this morning. krist kristen, what did he have to say? >> reporter: we talked to her and she got the call on her way to work there was a fire in her building. we talked with sources who had inside knowledge of what's inside the building here. we understand they restored historic items, possibly from the u.s. capitol building. of course, serious concerns about this fire over night but we understand that everything that they were working on was saved. >> we are just very thankful. >> thankful because it could have been a lot worse if firefighters did not get here the minute they did. >> we got a lot of wood in there. >>

northeast dc was on fire with all kinds of flammable things inside. >> there is a lot of fire trucks. >> firefighters battled this one for an hour and a half. they had a hard time getting to the fire because of metal bars and shutters then they have to find the fire. it is an expansive building. they needed to extend their hoses. firefighters went to the hospital for heat exhaustion. luckily, the only loss was some old equipment. >> cleaning up is a headache but thankfully no one was hurt and none of the materials we restored are damage. fire dogs sniffing around looking for how it started. >> reporter: back here live, the fire investigation is now beginning as to how exactly this fire started. as for that firefighter who was taken to the hospital, just minor sort of injuries and he's

montgomery county and barnesville. could be more scattered in the afternoon. we'll time it out coming up a few minutes. thank you, county police are investigating of what they called a targeted killing. this happened in upper marlboro over night. the homeowner says he was not at his house. the victim is a 22 years old man who was renting out his basement. the homeowner learned of the shooting when he received a text from the victim's aunt. new information, an officer involved shooting. a witness caught the incident near the third street tunnel on his cell phone. police say 19 years old edwards shot an officer with a machine gun. 18 years old jalow was driving the car and trying to get away from it. keith jones was also in that

to rest. in about an hour, dallas police lorne ahrens will be laid to rest. micah xavier killed five officers last week. johnson was killed by a remote bomb. the other deceased officers will be laid to rest later this week. thank you, president obama will be back in washington after speaking at the memorial for the fallen officers. he will hold a meeting at the white house on ways to repair trusts between law enforcement and the communities they served, civil rights leaders and activists will all be there. in dallas yesterday, the president says the deaths of the five officers should remind all americans of our common ideals. >> we are not as divided as we think. >> i know that because i know
