continues. we continue our team coverage now of this breaking news with news 4 megan mcgrath live outside of french embassy in northwest washington. megan. >> reporter: certainly a difficult day for the people who work here at the french embassy as they continue to monitor events in the wake of the attack in nice. now, last night, the french ambassador took to twitter saying our thoughts are with the victims and our country and its values. we mustn't succumb to fear. now, bastille day celebration was being held here at the embassy last night. that party, though, was cut short after the attack occurred. now, guests were asked to leave early after a moment of silence. we spoke to some of the people who were at that party. >> they told us that they wanted to be more respectful of what happened in nice, and to do a minute a silence for a minute, yeah. and then we, you know, we

areacting to the attacks. leaders and celebrities. speaker of the house paul ryan wrote our hearts are with the victims of another unconscionable act of terror. canadian prime minister justin trudeau also offered condolences. here's what we know so far. an austin, texas, father and son are among the 84 people killed in the deadly attack. yesterday a man drove a truck into a bastille day celebration. french police shot and killed the suspect. we don't know who it was right now. no word on the motive behind the attack. france's president is asking to extend the country's state of emergency by three more months. and stay with news 4 as we continue to follow the latest out of nice as things there are still fluid and we will send you alerts on the nbc washington app as we learn more details. the situation in france is impacting decision 2016 here.

fairfax county, where rescue crews are recover the body of a 17-year-old who went missing in lake barcroft. jeremymanga went swimming with friends. his body was recovered around 3:00 this morning. also developing this morning, police officers killed a man in baltimore. they say he was shooting at plain clothesed officers with a military style gun. according to baltimore police, four plain clothes officer heard gunfire in west baltimore last night. they drove toward the sound and say the man started shooting at them. two officers shot back. at least one of them hit and killed the suspect. police tweeted this photo of the gun they recovered. they say the officers who fired their guns are now on routine administrative leave. happening today, we will get an update on lead concerns in drinking water in the capitol building. two office restroom sinks had wawi

gonzalez. it will be an emotional day in baton rouge today. alton sterling's funeral is today. he was shot and killed by police officers last week. that sparked protests around the country. those officers are now on administrative leave. also today a funeral following the tragedy in dallas. one of the five police officers who was killed there by a sniper last week will be laid to rest. krol served with the dallas police department for nine years. he was 40 years old. we told you that micah johnson was deployed in afghanistan. while serving overseas, he was accused of stealing a woman's underwear and he was dismissed. people who knew him say he was never the same. protests

ring bust. we have details. >> this morning, several people waking up in the arlington county detention center after police uncover what they call a major drug ring right here in the clarendon section. police tell us over the past seven months they have been investigating this drug ring. they say these individuals have been selling everything from cocaine to meth to pot. a tenth person was also taken into custody. police say they arrested him because after the first nine were arrested, he allegedly threatened to kill some of the undercover officers involved. a lot of details on this case. you can search our app for arlington drug bust. today, we expect to learn new information in the shooting death of a prince george's county police officer. police and prosecutors will talk about the officer

morning. they say the man's brothers recorded the shootings on cell phones. he was killed when a fellow officer mistook him for a suspect during a shoot-out. the former campaign driver for former mayor d.c. gray. he drove him. he's accused of illegally picking up cash in his car. long pled guilty as part of a plea deal. mayor gray has not been charged with any crimes associated with his campaign. new details, federal inspectors say they have discovered more than 100 defects in metro safe track work zones. they have worked to fix 88 of those issues so are fa. the federal transit administration has not specified what is cause the problems, but they say the issues are related to the first and second surges of metro's safe

children's hospital and drove up the coast before stopping. nice is a coastal town along the mediterranean sea. it's less than an hour drive north of cannes. the attack in nice is a latest in a series of devastating attacks in france in the past 18 months. more than 200 people have died in terror attacks. you may remember the attacks on the "charlie hebdo" magazine offices in paris on january 7th, 2015, and last november, more than 130 people died in a series of coordinated attacks in the capitol city. many of victims were young people as isis militants targeted places, including restaurants and bars. right now, d.c. police are investigating two violent attacks on women in southeast. both of the incidents happened on 19th street southeast within minutes of each other and a block apart. around 9:30 last night.

"washington post" reports, police believe the suspect was carrying a shotgun. minutes later, they found a woman who was stabbed. all the victims were conscious when they were taken to the hospital. in the day ahead, the men accuse of of killing an american university graduate will be in court. he was shot outside the howard university metro station in northwest last august. marcus king, andre dudley and christopher proctor are all charged in the death. the trial is set to begin in january. today, a man prosecutors called a monster will be sentenced for murdering a maryland man. marcio morales gonzalez killed a man in december, 2014. before christmas. they connected him from a bloody fingerprint and sneaker print left at the scene. it will be next week before the fourth officer in trial in the death of

his fate. closing arguments wrapped up yesterday in the trial of lieutenant brian rice. prosecutors say as shift leader, he should have been aware of the danger when officers did not put a seat belt on gray in the back of a police van. he died from injuries he sustained while in custody. six baltimore police officers were charged. two acquitted. a third rephrases a retrial. university of maryland police chief says video showing officers pepper spraying students is humiliating. yesterday, an officer was suspended and the entire force will be undergoing bias and diversity training. this is cell phone video. officers used pepper spray twice after responding to what turned out to be a fake call about a fight at an apartment. >> you can argue well, i thought it was going to get worse. the bottom line is it never should have gotten to this point. ever. >> the university of maryland's president praised the police chief's decision. charges against the people arrested at the party have been dropped.

we have breaking news right now. we're learning this morning that two of the victims in the attacks in nice, france, are americans from tefles -- texas. we want to go to courtney gilmore who is in prosper, texas, this morning with more. >> reporter: yes. they grew up here in crawford. this is a close-knit community. they are hurting by this. the 11-year-old boy, brodie copeland, he went to fullsome elementary school. he was on vacation with his father sean

morning. but we're seeing some added security measures. take a look at this video we shot minutes ago here. a police officer arriving on the scene here to the front gate of the embassy with a dog, just went around the gate area, the bushes, and just sniffed around. the dog did looking for anything suspicious. nothing was found, but obviously some enhanced security measures in place in light of the attack in nice. now, a bastille day celebration was being held here at the embassy last night. that party was cut short as news of the attack pred -- spread. guests were asked to participate in a moment of silence and then everyone left the party early and the ambassador, the french ambassador took to twitter, saying our thoughts are with the victims and our country and its values. we mustn't succumb to fear. the folks here at the embassy are also helping people getting in contact with friends and loved ones who may have been in nice at the time of the attack.
